I stayed at the ryokan for 4 days with my friends at hanami season in April. The people were nice and helpful, even their english is sometimes not really great, but hey, we are in Kyoto! The place was clean and all the time we've...More

I am surprised by the comment that this hotel is not clean. I saw the cleaning lady on her hands and knees, using a TOOTHBRUSH to clean the area where the door opened, getting all the dirt out at the foot of the step. As...More
We booked a room in Oyado Ishicho in Kyoto thinking that is would be a traditional ryokan. It is in reality a big impersonal hotel (spread over too buildings) with no character at all, with the only traditional item being sleeping on a tatami.
We had wanted to stay in a ryokan but the famous ones in Kyoto are too pricey. We had decided on this place because it was more affordable, easy to book via booking, com and that the location seems to be good.

No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of
local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
