We stayed for 7 nights at Maifukan with two young children. The staff were amazing and extremely helpful with all requests and gave excellent recommendations on eating. We had japanese style rooms which we found very comfortable. The hote is in a great quiet location close to Gion and many wonderful sights, shopping, resataurants and picturesque Kyoto lanes. Highly recommend...

the location is near to Gion and few attractions are nearby. Its easy to find good restaurant around the area. Room is clean and nice. Too bad they don't provide breakfast. Staff is helpful and friendly, most of them can speak English well.

I couldn't recommend this place enough for value, location and service. The people that work here are very accurate and precise in what they do. The hotel itself has a Japanese feel with a little western influence. I stayed here with a friend whilst traveling through Japan for a couple of weeks. It's immaculately clean too.

A big thank-you to all the wonderful staff who were so patient and helpful with my multiple and urgent requests. Their prompt and friendly service was superb, and a definite bonus to this well-located hotel.

The Maifukan is delightful Boutique hotel. It is located is a very quiet street in the Gion area, within 5 minutes walking distance to the more "busy" area, and few minutes from the lovely Yasaka shrine and the relaxing Maruyama park - which I visited every day, The room (western style) was very large, spotlessly clean, excellent shower and bath...

This hotel was the most expensive one we stayed in during our 3 week trip to Japan and while nowhere near 5 star luxury, it was perfect for us! Our room was a western one, there was plenty of room and the beds were comfy. The hotel is quiet, even though it is very close to everything. Apart from the...

We were staying at the Japanese style room. We had stayed at a Ryokan previously so we knew what to expect. The room was big but looked like it haven't been renovated since the 80's (traditional experience doesn't mean the place shouldn't be maintained). The blankets and pillows were dusty. Staff was very nice however.

This hotel is perfectly placed for exploring Gion, in walking district of many attractions but quiet during the evening. The staff speak English and they are welcoming, courteous and efficient. The room we had was excellent, a good size and very clean with comfortable beds. We had thought of booking a traditional room that they offer but decided to stay...

One of the worst rooms I've ever stayed in. Basic doesn't even come close. You are basically paying for a basic camping experience in a box in the middle of Gion. The staff are very accommodating however paying for this level of room makes the experience painful, basically s thin mattress on the floor. Very disappointed.

As the title suggests, I don't think a more perfect location could be found in Kyoto... Just a short walk through Yasaka Shrine to the main strip Shijo-dori, Sanjo-dori and Ponto-cho, while in the evenings one can enjoy a romantic, quiet stroll through the Yasaka Pagoda area, Ninen-zaka and Sannen-zaka, amongst other hidden treasures until you reach kiyomizu-dera temple (which...
