We stayed 2 nights in Maifukan in a Japanese style room. The hotel is in Gion, which is the historical part of Kyoto; it is very convenient to numerous temples, including those that offer night tours. (The hotel will also sell you tickets to Kodai-ji night-time so that you don't wait in the crazy long lines.) Just for the location...

Stayed here for 1 night in Oct. If you have booked traditional Japanese room, the reception of Maifukan will take you to another complex round the corner up the slope to check in and stay. Not a huge problem unless if you huge luggage. Better ask for the exact address if you arrive by taxi, saving you from walking. Check...

This is a reasonably priced ryokan in the heart of Gion. The neighborhood embodies the very reason for visiting Kyoto and this ryokan provides a reasonably authentic lodging experience. It's important to walk, and find, and follow the small lanes (not obvious from the main streets) around the inn. A short walk from the ryokan there is a wonderful winding...

Ideally situated in Gion, within walking distance to sights, restaurants ,bus stops and a ten minute taxi ride from the station. Staff can speak English and is very helpful, friendly and attentionate. Choice of Western or Japanese breakfast, had the latter and it was always very good. Stayed in a Western style room which was spotless clean and very functional albeit...

It literally is in the best possible location for Kyoto. After a long hard day visiting sites it was wonderful to...

Absolutely brilliant location just up the road from Yasaka Shrine & Maruyama Park, as well as so many other shrines too numerous to mention. We loved walking through the Shrine of an evening on the way to scout out dinner propositions as there was always such a positive buzz about the place. We stayed in the Japanese style room &...

The location of this ryokan is excellent ...quiet charming laneways and streets, low traffic levels [ at night ], with an easy walk to major shrines [ the Yasaka shrine at the end of the street, and the Temple of Kodai-ji one block away ]..The ryokan does not have a garden so the views from the rooms overlook other properties...

We stayed for 1 night when we visited Kyoto from Osaka. It is among the houses in small streets. Kyoto is a very nice and calm place herself. The staff are nice, good command of English and welcoming. The Japanese room is overall ok, toilet is clean and main room is not too small. They have no digital saflok key...
