We enjoyed Japanese fine dining at its best. The chef prepares an amazing traditional dinner with a variety of delicacies- simple yet each mouthful is tantalizing. Chef Yasujito Izutsu is charming and explains every dish in detail. He combines flavors and spices which would delight any palate. Ours was an evening to remember for ambience, flavors and textures. Highly recommended.

We spent 4 nights at this charming, traditional, and comfortable ryokan. Japanese breakfast was included and each day it differed-- all delicious. We treated ourselves to a kei seki dinner prepared in front of us by the master chef. The staff were gracious and helpful. Highly recommend.

We stayed here our first evening in Kyoto (we booked a different place each evening to better experience the atmosphere of the city). And we had never stayed in a ryokan before. The staff was extremely helpful showing us around the premises, including the garden, dining room, and baths. We dined with a guest in a private dining room and...

Thank you for your previous stay at our ryokan. It was very honoring to be part of you very first experience in a ryokan. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed our bath and dinner, along with the experience. We are very sorry that we couldn't notice the size of pyjamas and the robes. We hope you had a...

We had a delightful stay at Izuyasu. We note, however, that there are some misperceptions about the facilities. First, our room did have its own ensuite half bath--that is, a toilet and sink. The "bathrooms" that people refer to are the shower and onsen (hot tub, sort of) rooms, which aren't private, but that wasn't a problem--we chose to bathe...

Thank you for your previous stay at our ryokan. It was very nice to be part of your Kyoto trip. Thank you for pointing out about the bathrooms--after our remodeling three years ago, the bathrooms that used to be part of some rooms are taken away and now we only have public baths with locks. Also thank you for complementing...

I went to Kyoto for the history and a lot of local color. Ryokan Izuyasu anchored all that experience for me! The smell and feel of the tatami, and the minimalist, quiet setting helped a lot in making me enjoy thinking back to the full day of adventure I had. The hot bath downstairs was a welcome comfort after a...

The ryokan is immaculately presented, beautiful and serene, it was a perfect end to our holiday in Japan. It is located very close to Kyoto Station, within walking distance. Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
