Having been able to go to Japan was such a nice experience. The food, the people, the culture, the place, the weather, everything were all so amazing. Part of our travel in Japan were we visiting places located in Northern part of Kyoto. the Temples, shopping , eating a lot of native Japanese food and even watch the Geisha perform live just...

This place was prefect for us to go touring all around Kyoto, the hotel is perfect situated at the hub of kyotos transport precinct, the hotel itself is more classy than we desire but the location was the key. The hotel was spotless and the staff were excellent

Besides being conveniently located above Kyoto station this hotel has great amenities, a friendly English speaking staff, comfortable beds, and large updated rooms. Note that there is an extra charge to use the gym/pool/sauna. The facilities are immaculate and were not at all crowded when we went so it seems well with it. We found this location perfect for exploring...

The location of the hotel makes it easy to access the trains for longer day trips. Easy walking distance or a short bus trip to many of the sites. The train station has many eateries and a supermarket. The hotel is comfortable.

I have been staying at Granvia Kyoto for years and they have never disappointed. It's not the best hotel but it is very conveniently located, right above the Kyoto Station. The rooms can be a little small but they are clean and well equipped with very polite and friendly staff. They even have some suites and family rooms with 4...

When a Japanese friend recommended the Granvia for my first visit to Kyoto, I was apprehensive because I thought close proximity to trains would bring noise, dust, and difficulty sleeping. Of course, I was wrong, my friend was right, and I am glad that I took her advice. The hotel's location is perfect: it's a transport hub, close to historic...

If your looking for a great hotel that is centrally located you can't beat this one. Its clean, the rooms are slightly larger than the typical Japanese hotel. I didn't eat in the hotel as they generally are over priced but many restaurants around. It also is located beside and above large shopping areas as well as right at the...

Great hotel conveniently located at the center of Kyoto's transport hub. Rooms were well appointed and clean. No need for the gym here though as you will do plenty of walking to the rooms as the layout seems to be large and sprawling. Would stay again, although the only downside is the smell of cigarette smoke throughout the hallways.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
