When I checked into the hotel in November 2018 the receptioniste asked me for my credit card and charged it with 700 Chinese yuan as a guarantee. When I checked out everything was fine and I thought they will cancel the guarantee, but they charged my credit card with the full amount of 700 chinese yuan, approximately 85 Euro. I contacted the hotel several times and tried to get the money back but until today I wasn't successful. This is absolutely unacceptable. Be aware of this when you stay at this hotel!
I stayed here while in transit, although I don’t know why this particular hotel was chosen as it is almost an hour from the airport, depending on traffic (which there is a lot of). I suspect it is probably very, very reasonably priced. I arrived during the night so it was dark, and there is no light switch by the door. Only by using the light on my iPhone did I find this funky control panel next to the bed which operated all the lights. It was clean but smelled faintly of cigarettes and there was rust in the shower/tub. It was fine for a shower but wouldn’t take a bath in it. It was hard to find anyone there who spoke English. WiFi was spotty. There is an “Irish” pub next door, I got fries and my friend got a burger which he said was good. The beer is good but don’t order wine (yuk!!!). The hotel has a breakfast buffet and if you enjoy Beijing Bowels then this is the place for you! If not then there is a Holiday Inn down the road. …
Disappointed, Disappointed and Disappointed! There is no corner you can avoid smoke. If you are a smoker, enjoy your staying. If you are not, don't get killed by smoke since it was 100% OK to smoke in the lobby, rooms, restaurants, anywhere you can name it. Two hours after I checked in, I spent another two hours to get full refund to get out......
This hotel has a good location, easy to find and well know. The problem is that the service is too bad, ex: I called the desk because the sign with the instructions for the safe box was too old and You couldn't read them. As soon as the staff answered and I spoke in english the hung the phone. I went down (9th floor) and I waited for service. They told me how but was incorrect. They always have something better and more important to do that help you. Just one person speaks english, if they were more nobody cares to answer you. Everything in the room tries to look elegant but it is fake, and in bad condition. Cleaning and updating is not their strengh. I stayed one night. I have had terrible experiences in Kunming hotels. This time I paid 80 dollars for a night. The bed was too hard that I had to put pillows and a blanket to sleep on them.…
The Hotel Kunming is one of the original high-end hotels in the city, and it is still stunning in many respects even though it is showing its age. The large elegant lobby, for example, is a showcase of gorgeous marble and custom wood features. The rooms (our was 1019) are spacious and handsomely decorated in a classic style – thick crown molding, dark finely finished furniture. Our room had twin beds that were rather hard, with low hard pillows. There were two arm chairs, a small round table, a cabinet with small refrigerator, desk & vanity, one built-in luggage stand, a minibar with coffee/tea maker, a built-in closet with hanging rod but no shelves, and a safe. There were no drawers for clothes. Between the beds was a fancy lighting and a.c. control console that in its day must have been a marvel. It had a temperature setting for the a.c. but this didn’t seem to work and the room was somewhat warm at night. Wifi was ok, though slow at times. The front desk service was uneven – sometimes friendly and helpful, sometimes indifferent. The bathroom was large and clad in beautiful marble on the walls and counter top, but there was a serious maintenance issue with the tub/shower combination. There were heavy rust stains on the tub and heavy, ugly caulking that had apparently been an attempt to stop the water leak that had caused the rust. It was odd to find this in an otherwise upscale bathroom. Despite the unattractiveness of the tub/shower, it was still functional. Breakfast was very good, served buffet style in a 2nd-floor restaurant area that overlooked the lobby. My wife and I stayed here for two nights in early August, ‘16 at the beginning of a group tour of Yunnan Province. We flew into Kunming early, however, and spent our first two nights on our own at the Grand Park Hotel, which we felt was in a more pleasant location and overall more comfortable. If we return to Kunming we would opt for the Grand Park rather than Hotel Kunming.…
Recently spent two nights at the Kunming Hote with an OAT tourl. The check in was very speedy and friendly. The rooms were a little outdated and somewhat cramped. The beds were very hard. Breakfast was ok. Location of the hotel is only a few long blocks to major shopping and plently of places to eat at around the corner.
Not the best or the worst Chinese hotel I have stayed at, but what stood out for me was the rock hard bed. I mean there was absolutely no give whatsoever in that mattress. I think it was quarried from just down the road! So apart from waking every couple of hours to massage one side of my body back to life, the hotel was otherwise ok. The room size was OK but the Chinese do then have this habit of filling every inch of floor space with furniture. There was this underlying background smell of smoking, but at least most things worked in the room. This included the control desk from the starship enterprise which controlled every light, the aircon, the TV, and even told the time in multiple time zones. The bathroom suffered from the usual Chinese aversion to cleaning products, but at least the shower was good. Breakfast was your usual Chinese version of western cuisine where at least one dish is cold (this time it was the crowd eggs and baked beans). So as Chinese hotels go, this was a bang down the middle of the road average version. By western standards, not so good!!…
Clean and conveniently located (15 min walk to the center, airport bus stops right in front of the building), this hotel is comfortable although we stayed in the so called business center building which is in a serious need of a good make over. Some of its staff speaks a little English. Breakfast is mainly Chinese food but you can get toasts and coffee. One of our best stays in China.
The location is excellent but the hotel is terrible. We had to have maintenance install 5 40w light bulbs and add another lamp. Room was like a dungeon with out lighting. Stayed for 2 nights in late June as part of a OAT tour group. Both nights they turned the AC off at about 2am. No one spoke English so we had to scramble for someone to interpret for us or go across the street to a Holiday Inn for help.
I liked my room but as previous posts had mentioned it was a rock hard bed but that was not my major objection... The place claims to be a four star business hotel yet the wifi there was the worst wifi I had any hotel in the many places I stayed this trip. During the day and night I spent at this place I couldn't access the wifi one single time.
