We stayed in August 2016 as a family in 2 rooms. The White House is a rather unique hotel, set in one of a complex of buildings beside the river. It was originally the home of a famous Chinese General and Defence Minister, and the hotel, especially the lobby area, is full of memorabilia and antiques, which was fascinating to...

Please, please, please, DO NOT STAY in this hotel. The hotel is horrible. What you read in the other reviews is absolutely correct. The hotel smells horrible, the carpet is nasty, the air conditioner does not work, the showers are gross. We visited other 3 cities in China and this was the most expensive and the worst hotel we stayed...

This probably doesn't meet one's usual expectations of a five star hotel. Certainly not the usual western notion. But, that aside, it's a marvellously eccentric place to stay with wonderful rooms that have private balconies overhanging the lake. The hotel is stuffed with memorabilia and the rooms are lavishly decorated with antiques and pseudo-antiques. I found the staff extremely helpful...

A gorgeous hotel and very relaxing lounge bar / dining terrace right on the river / lake. Very expensive, particularly given the rural area, but not really good value. We experienced some service issues, eg late laundry, and being told (at 5pm) that the hotel bar had run out of cocktails and wine but then we noticed wine was served...

This is nice place to stay. A bit pricey though. Only a 2 minute walk to the river which was great. The rooms are large with floor to ceiling cabinets. It had all the amenities you look for in a first class hotel. There were a few hiccups though. Our reservation didn't seem to matter, at check in we were...

We were literally at the White House for 10 hours but thought it was a wonderful hotel. Felt like we had been transported back to the 1940s - yet lots of furniture and the grand piano in the lobby but better than being sparse and lacking in atmosphere. We had a superior lake view room - it was probably the...

A very comfortable stay at this hotel. We had looked it up on Trip Advisor prior to our visit and were a little concerned about the reports of a smell of mildew as I am allergic to mould. However although there was a very slight smell in the downstairs corridor, which could possibly have been mildew, there was no sign...

We thought this was great and had a colonial feel (not in a bad way). Huge room and full of interesting photos and artifacts. We arrived about 9pm and there was no bar facility, it was crying out for a cocktail bar. We had a beer and gin and orange from the mini bar having fritlessly walked around the lake...

It's in a great location, right by the lake. They have squeezed too much in an effort to be old-style. Stuff everywhere - barely a free surface/cupboard to put things on/in. May look interesting but it's not practical. The bathroom was really tight & poorly designed - you couldn't get out of the shower if your other half was brushing...

Stayed here recently during a trip to China. This was our most expensive hotel, but all the others were actually better. Room was large and had pleasant outlook. Location is great - a 10min walk to the central district (restaurants, etc), but far enough away to not be too busy. Hotel has a certain "old world" charm and a very...
