At the end of 2015, I was in Dammam on business. I needed a hotel at short notice, and found the Howard Johnson. Seeing the price was pretty good, and given the quieter location near the sea, I went for it.
When it comes to hotels, I've made many good calls in my life, and this was one of the best. My business colleague and I were immediately made to feel welcome on arrival. This was clearly not just a "Welcome, Sir, enjoy your stay" approach from a good-customer-care manual (although they have certainly read those too), but much more: a genuine, warm, friendly welcome from a body of staff who really do take pride in their work and make visitors feel at home immediately.
This friendly welcome remained evident throughout the four-night stay. Every single request was granted with a smile, and staying there was less like being in a hotel and more like staying at the home of a wealthy, hospitable friend! The manager even came to my room just to ask if everything was OK, to make sure I was enjoying my stay, and to see if there was anything else they could do for me. I assured him I was already being very well looked after.
My expectations in terms of room facilities were also met and exceeded, from the extremely comfortable bed with such fresh, crisp linen I didn't want to leave, to the fresh fruit basket and water replenished daily. I needed to work while there, and there was plenty of space in my room for that. The bathroom was a tad on the small side, but was spotlessly clean and well appointed.
Because the place had newly opened as the HJ (in what had been another hotel before that), I was told - apologetically - that there was still some work to be done. This included the fact that there was no restaurant at that point (although it seems to have opened since then) and so I had to eat out. This was not a major problem for me, because there are some restaurants within 5 minutes' drive, and there was also a range of delivery menus at reception. The dining room did open for breakfast, however, and the very good buffet breakfast available most mornings (last day was A La Carte) was enough to set a hungry business traveler up for the day.
The location was what I wanted: not too far from the city centre, but far enough away to be quiet and pleasant. The Corniche was just across the road, perfect for an evening walk and a blast of sea air. I found very easy parking at the front, although I'm not sure how it would be if the place was fully booked.
When I'm back in Dammam, I will certainly stay at the 'HoJo' without a moment's hesitation. Thanks you, Steve, Mervyn, and all the rest of you for such a memorable stay :)

We conducted Event at this hotel and services provided by Ihshan - F&B Supervisor was very good. He managed entire event effectively . We also stayed here in Prestige Room and it was like a Villa. Highly recommended 👍👍

The bathroom it has to be renovated and replace the old faucets from showers to sink and toilet. Floor is dirty too. The lock of the door is not secured and it has to be replace a new one because it’s old. The edges of the table inside the room are sharp which was the reason my son had a cut because he hit his eyebrows on it. And it took so long to check in because the reception doesn’t know about my reservation and she has to call first her manager.

The staff at the hotel are excellent. Location is good. The main reception looks impressive.
The room itself was old with a motel vibe. Carpets ripped in places, bathroom clean but lots of broken tiles, some wallpaper ripped. Overall the hotel is ok for 1 night, however the room needs a referb.

A perfect location,great and friendly staff, clean rooms, and good food. My son had fun swimming in the pool. We enjoyed our stay and we will return whenever we are in dammam. I highly recommend it for families.

Very disappointed stay. Unwelcoming attitude from reception staff. Very slow check in and check out, it took us 15 minutes to check in. Unprofessional approach. Good size Room but old furniture. Noisey AC, small bathroom rusty sink leaking toilet uncomfortable bed and pillows. Very poor and basic breakfast, limited choices, unappealing setup.

A very poor and old hotel. The furniture is outdated and look 70's style. It takes ages to check in (12 minutes), same for check out if you ask for a company bill. The reception staff (locals) do not have any knowledge about greeting quests or even take care of their needs. Breakfast is disastrous, nothing to eat actually. A very, and I mean, a very limited selection of literary anything. The food is cold and preheated, the salad is is little and not fresh. The room size us good, again old furniture from beds to desk, to curtains, to chairs, even the TV is old. The bathroom was leaking from the toilet, the stand up shower has no curtain so when you take a shower the whole bathroom floor is flooded with water. Even the bathroom amunities are basic and limited. The only good thing about the hotel is the location. Honestly, I regret choosing this hotel and I do not intend to visit again.

An Excellent hotel with a nice location, very very clean, large rooms, nice food and the most important thing is the nice welcoming and great care. According to my experience, this was one of the best hotels in the kingdom compared to other 4 and 5 stars hotels.
