We stayed at Hotel Joy for 2 nights during the World Cup in June 2018, and were very impressed by this small hotel. This was probably the busiest and most stressful period that the city has seen, and yet the hotel staff were very welcoming and kind to all of their guests. We arrived very early in the morning and despite being at full capacity the night before, the hotel staff very quickly turned over a room for us as soon as one was free so that we were able to check in early - much appreciated after our overnight train to Nizhny. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and ours had a kettle, microwave and fridge. We slept very well - comfy beds, very little street noise and an excellent air conditioning unit. Breakfast, served in our room and pre-ordered the night before, was delicious with plenty of options for every preference. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay and the location was absolutely perfect - I don't think we could have found a better location in the Old Town! Only slight drawback was a complicated wifi system that isn't very friendly for foreigners (you need to receive a code by text to enable the hotel's wifi and the code never arrived to our non-Russian mobile phones), but the hotel staff helped us to work this out. We would be very happy to stay here again.

i booked a room facing the courtyard because hotel is right next to the tram tracks. i arrived early in the morning but was told that the room is not ready. got back to the hotel in the evening and was given a room facing the tracks. it was also next to the main entrance. every time someone went through the entrance the doors slammed and the walls in my room shake. guy at the front desk didn't want to help. the manager came and put me in another room. it was smaller and further back but still facing the street. there was some sort of party disco going on upstairs and people were screaming and dancing. it didn't stop until midnight.

Really loved the place: small, cozy, warm, clean and comfy. Great location in downtown - walking distance from the Kremlin and other places of interest. Breakfast delivered to our room was a highlight of each morning.

A small, warm hotel, only footsteps from the main pedestrian street of the city. Nearby restaurants and the central attractions are at walking distance, making it very simple to spend a nice evening in the restaurant and don't bother about taxi etc. Not a glamour place, but having all necessary for a stay. Clean and friendly. One thing to note - there is no breakfast room or restaurant, you are expected to select a ready menu set from the carte and have it delivered to your room. Not your usual Swedish table, but it´ll get you started for the day :) Also, if you want, the hotel friendly offers you a discount card for a nearby restaurant...

Location is excellent, next to the main street. Price/ quality ratio very good for such place. Rooms we stayed in (no 10, 13, 17) are rather large. There is no restaurant at the hotel, so breakfast is delivered to a room every morning. Breakfast may be selected from 4 choices and is totaly adequate. Good internet. No gym. There is one appartment with sauna/ jakuzzi. We stayed there one night and enjoyed the place. On negative side, there is often shortage of hot water as the boiled in the building is not capable to deal with demand at certain times. A bit noisy, and house vibrates badly every time a tram passes on the street. We liked the olace however, and will be back!
