This hotel must be usually good enough to stay short period of time. Around 5 minutes by taxi from the train station. 15 to 20 minutes walk to the park, restaurants and cafes. The room was basic but ok, considering rates for stay. Not know meals as we did not have any. It was however in a chaos when we stayed the night FIFA game was on. We needed overnight stay to watch the soccer game. We arrived a little early, so waited for check in. The reception was crowded and after waiting for a while, advised to come back after the game, leaving luggage there. When we were back, the reception was full of people waiting for checking in, more than before. Although staff were trying to make it comfortable to wait, TV was not working and could not watch live games. It took more than one hour to check in. The room had large bed (not that comfy), curtain was shabby, good size bathroom with some basic amenities. The worst part was the electricity turned off every 2 to 15 minutes. Hotel staff was trying to fix it but did not work. We gave up and decided to go to bed. WiFi did not work either. I guess this was caused so many people stayed there because of the FIFA game and it was overcapacity for them. It would have been alright if it's not that popular time. We were however glad we stayed only one night.…
We have the highest regards for the hotel and the staff. They were so friendly and went our of their way to welcome us to the hotel for our two night stay during the World Cup. They made sure they had staff who could speak English which was our major concern before arriving (we dont speak Russian). The hotel is close to a mall and the main shopping district. The day of our checkout, the hotel secured our luggage while we watched our match and allowed us to stay in their lounge after the game until our we headed to the train station.
In advance of the World Cup in 2018, I booked a room for a few days with in intention of visiting the city for one of the games. I was pretty shocked to then receive and email a day later direct from the hotel saying I wasn't getting breakfast and the price is triple what I had booked because it was the World Cup. So I either need to pay now or cancel immediately. 1) If that is the price, put that as the price on your travel agents sites in the first place. 2) That is not any way to speak to a customer and demand payment up front, as a hotel if you can't be organised enough to arrange the prices of a hotel 8 months before an event you have been aware is taking place for several years. I won't be staying here as I see it as a blessing in disguise, if they are emailing me with rubbish one day after the booking then staying at the hotel will most likely be shambolic.…
Beside the quietness and the cleanliness, there is nothing good about Otel Shato. First of all the receptionists couldn't find our online reservation even though we have a printed copy of it and offered us another room. Also for the price included breakfast, they were unable to serve it. As stated before, consider this hotel as the last option in Nizhniy Novgorod.
We found this place by chance situated on a kind of ring road just beyond the bus station. Tucked away minding its own business with a steady stream of customers happily coming and going. Apart from being a quiet backwater away from the main parts of the city it has a great connection for walking into town by various back routes which if you like a bit of a challenge is great. The lady in the kitchen - Leica is magic, she looks after you very well as do the reception staff who are really friendly. Especially so now that I have stayed about five times. The rooms are clean, quiet and reasonably well furnished, I kind of feel like I am going home when there especially as I am away from home for the majority of my time these days. To wrap it up it is well priced, comfy and welcoming.…
