Spacious room, impeccable cleaning, the cleaning ladies always have a smile on their faces and do an excellent job, we appreciate coming back several times a day to our room and each time it was impeccable, very good bedding and quality equipment, beautiful bathroom very well maintained, we will return the next time we come back to this beautiful island
We just wrapped up our trip to Reunion, stayed at Lux for 8 nights. Here is our feedback. Overall - great property. Pros Excellent staff at Le Bar, three individuals particularly, Roxanne, Olivier, and chef Garzille (May not have spelled name correctly). Excellent location - lovely beach Concierge - this Is a very strong area, their help in organizing trips and knowledge is unparalleled. Must get them to organize the helicopter ride (worth every penny) Cons Food variety - not a lot of variation from day to day. Exact same breakfast options every single day Water - concept of giving 1 bottle of water in the room every day; paying for water at lunch and dinner. This is a tropical island, very hot, one has to drink lots of water to keep hydrated. In such an environment water should be free Housekeeping - not very attentive, had to ask for coffee refill, water bottles, shaving cream restocking (I forgot my shaving kit) Overall, I would classify them as an excellent four star hotel. If we go back, we will stay here as there really isn’t a lot of other good 4/5 star options on the island…
This is not a five star hotel. Maybe it was 15 years ago. In Sweden we call this Scandic and in France it is Ibis (no offense Scandic or ibis). If you have stayed at a five star hotel you know what to expect in regards to rooms, service and facilities. This is simply wrongly noted in regards to hotel stars.
What a disappointing stay in such a beautiful place... Positive points: the place is beautiful, the beach and its lagoon are authentic, our suite was big, great and very comfortable. The staff in the two restaurants opened were nice and friendly. Negative points: to find that the gastronomic restaurant was closed for works (great in the season!) and nothing was mentioned in the website. The place needs some maintenance works: old paints, shelves with scratches, etc. Two staff (at the conciergerie and the outdoor activities) were so arrogant and insolent that it really jammed the stay. The ping-pong tables are covered with tree leaves, and left uncleaned. After a written complain to the management of the hotel: no answer received, no apologies, no nothing... This 5 star hotel (that wrongly claims to be the only 5* on the Reunion island; it is hopefully not the only one!!) should be downgraded to 3* (except the suites!). Next time, we will go to a real 5* hotel where clients who pay almost 700€ a night are well treated.…
The senior management of this hotel do their best, but it is dire need of renovation. There are huge problems recruiting staff and that meant that restaurants were closed. There are problems getting experienced staff for the kitchens so food is overcooked. Staff are inexperienced and so do not know the importance of allergy needs. I would give this a 3* rating and LUX hotels should downgrade it. If that doesn't suit their portfolio they should get rid of the hotel. The massage was excellent. The beach is rocky and we were told that it is the government's responsibility to keep it up to standard. They don't. The pool area is not served and you have to go and find your own towels and drinks. The sunbeds are ancient and really uncomfortable. La Reunion deserves better than this and LUX Resorts should be ashamed of themselves and the way they expect attentive staff and top management to cope with zero investment. I read the blurb on the Lux website on my last night (of four) and could hardly believe the rubbish the LUX marketing people have written.…
Really sad, but I agree to many of the previous ratings. This hotel is not worth its 5 stars. Maximum 3*. The location directly at the beach is absolutely nice and the pool is huge and good to swim laps, but that‘s it. It seems that they don‘t want other guest than french people. Nearly nobody is able to speak/understand basic english. You ask for a „diet coke“ and they don‘t know what you want. You ask for a Chai tea, an indian tea, and the waiter says „No, I‘m not from India, I‘m french“ (answer in french, of course). I have never experienced anything like that in any hotel in the world. So I believe, only french guest are desired. The rooms, other facilities and areas in this hotel are so old and in really bad conditions (see pics). The showers look like never have been cleaned properly. @Resident Manager: If you reply to my rating, please do not send me the standard reply in which you say that you are „looking for effective and sustainable solutions“. You wrote this message to everybody who was not satisfied with this hotel in the past for over 4 years and obviously nothing changed. So you do not really care about the opinion of these people. Breakfast and dinner buffets are tasty, but the prices for the drinks are incredibly high, also for the meals for lunch, you have to pay extra, of course. If everything else would be as expected for 5* hotels that might be reasonable, but it isn‘t. Another thing I never saw in 5* hotels are the street cats walking around the tables while dinner or breakfast. Of course, some people think that‘s cute, but other people think that’s unhygienic or some people may have an allergy against cat hair. As I mentioned, the beach is nice, but there is a fence between the hotel and the beach, which is really an eyesore. The beach loungers are from plastic and absolutely saggy. You get back pain, when you lie on them for a longer time. The breakfast and dinner restaurant is furnished uninvitingly/soberly (no decoration/flowers at all), absolutely sterile and the dishes are sometimes even dirty or damaged (see pictures). The staff seems not to be interested in this. You feel more than staying in a hostel than in a 5* hotel. When we checked out, nobody asked us, if we enjoyed our holiday and nobody came to help us with our luggage. Sad but true: I can not recommend anybody to spend her/his money for a holiday in this hotel!…
Appearance: main building and apartments have a nice colonial style Rooms: old, run down, smelly and dirty, need urgent renovation. Price: 439€ per night. Leisure: amazing beach to snorkel. Gym opening hours to short (from 9am to 7pm) and very old and rusty equipment. Sun beds on the chair remind of a 2 star Hotel in Mallorca. Overall feedback: For this price I have expected a state of the art 5 star hotel, however it needs irgend renovation. Price Performance ratio is very poor.
We enjoyed three nights here as an add-on to our Mauritius trip. As experienced visitors to mainland France it was interesting to visit a piece of France in the Indian Ocean. Lux St Gilles is a well laid out hotel in a colonial style in spacious grounds. We were greeted by friendly staff who did speak English although we enjoyed making an effort to speak French. Our room was comfortable, spacious with good coffee making facilities. There was a choice of restaurants, we ate in the buffet and one other which was near to the beach, all food was tasty and there was a good choice. Loungers were provided on the beach with a snack service nearby. We walked into the nearby town and explored a market which was typically French. We also took a helicopter flight over La Réunion which was amazing, an incredible way to view the volcanic Island. St Gilles is a large family orientated hotel with plenty of activites, I wish we had stayed longer. Unfortunately we didn't make it to St Denis to look around but what we saw locally to the hotel, it is a beautiful well run island.…
We stayed in this hotel as an add-on to 11 nights in Mauritius as we wanted to see the volcano and island. We took a helicopter ride over the island which was well worth it, despite the early start in the day. The hotel staff were very professional and attentive and made it a memorable experience for us. We were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary on the trip to Mauritius but although only in this hotel 3 nights, they provided some lovely gifts and a wonderfully special beach-side meal.
Due to absence of direct flights between SA and Madagascar we were getting from one to the other via Reunion, having to spend a night on the island. We knew it takes at least 50 minutes one way to get to LUXE from Rolland Garros airport, but we still decided to spend this night there – LUXE (on paper) being a 5-star resort and supposedly the best one on the island. But finally getting there we felt like we returned in time at least 30 years – such a big contrast it was in comparison to SA friendly, flexible and service minded hotels and lodges. To start with, we spent at least half-hour at the reception checking-in and it wasn’t because there were other guests before us, we were completely alone. But reception lady demanded a VOUCHER. Obviously, booking under my name and full payment done by a travel agent were not sufficient and if I couldn’t find a mail with the voucher then we wouldn’t get our room and had to stay outside for the night. I can’t remember when it was last that I had to present a VOUCHER anywhere. In order to find a mail I had to connect to Wi-Fi, but at LUXE one can’t just choose a network and input a password, one has to type in an IP address into your browser and only afterwards get access to user/password page. After finally finding the mail I had to forward it to a very easy typable address receptionluxeiledelareunion. Very convenient and very 21st century. I nearly broke my eyes typing it in. Finally after getting through check-in process we asked about eating options. As it turned, it isn’t possible to eat anywhere either at 11:00 p.m. or 11:00 a.m. and room-service isn’t available either, because “le kitchen is le closed”. But they can serve us breakfast to the room in the morning. Again, this very morning we were leaving a hotel in Johannesburg at exactly symmetrical schedule and they had absolutely no problems in accommodating us and serving us full lunch at 11:00 a.m. even though lunch time in their restaurant starts officially at midday. Before that in another hotel we got a very well-prepared seabass via room-service at the very same 11:00 a.m. OK, having abandoned thoughts about late dinner we were finally escorted to the room – we booked a Junior Suite. Which turned out to be 16 – 18m2 in size. “This is how Junior Suites in this hotel are” – friendly reception lady answered to my question. “And all the pillows that we have are all the same”, - she answered a 2nd one. Looking at this “Junior Suite’ I had a sense of deja-vu. One of our first trips to Africa was to Kenya in 2005. We stayed some days in 4-star hotel in Mombasa in a standard room (well, we travelled on a slightly different budget back then) – it looked exactly the same. Even TV and 2 A/C units in LUXE were more-or-less same models as in 2005 in Mombasa. Don’t want to say anything negative about Kenya: we have been 3 times to the country after that and, OK, that hotel in Mombasa didn’t claim to be 5-star, didn’t have word “Luxe” in its name and we have been paying something like USD 100 per night in high season – quite a difference with what LUXE charges for their Junior Suites. In the morning looking at a room closer in daylight, I could see that I have actually offended Mombasa hotel and its standard room in my comparisons. The toilet in LUXE hasn’t seen a cleaning product for years, mirror in the bathroom – cracked, ceiling was dirty and patched here and there with these “repairs” looking like being done by a 5-year-old child, outside 2 m2 “terrace” was covered in bird droppings dating back long time. What a disgrace of a “5-star” hotel, I am so glad we had to spend only one night there. To be fair, only positive thing was that during check-out suddenly we were “offered” a bottle of champagne from the minibar that we drank, I don’t know why. But I would have definitely preferred paying for my own champagne, but staying in a true 5-star hotel that I was supposed to be paying for.…
