Do not get a room that faces the street. Every single car that goes by beeps its horn at each corner. This does not start at 8 o’clock or 10 o’clock at night he goes on 24 hours a day. The room itself was clean, but the bed was hard as a brick. this day could’ve been a lot better if we were at the back of the building.
Good hotel in a fantastic location right next to the main square. Very comfortable beds and combined with slight altitude dizziness had best night sleep! Breakfast spread could be a bit better/more filling, but it was good. There were issues with hot water on both nights I stayed here, and it took a while, but the staff were very attentive and fixed it.
On the first night we were located in a room next to the Foyer, the lift and the public toilet. It was very noisy and we did not get a good night's sleep. The only ventilation was a window into the room next door. Therefore no ventilation if you wanted privacy. The next night we were relocated to a better room on the First Floor. It was quieter and a better night's sleep was had. Breakfast was ordinary. One safety concern was that the Foyer was heated by an outdoor gas heater. This is a fire risk and also it can vent carbon monoxide into the hotel area. A definite no no. WiFi was OK.
Positives: Nice warm and clean showers. The beds were comfortable and there was no noise to disturb us at night. Our room had a little TV screen with a desk and wardrobe. The location was good and central making it easy to walk everywhere. Staff were extremely polite and spoke English. The breakfast had a variety of food with options for everyone. This place is GREAT value for money, we highly recommend it. Negatives: None.
Had a great time in Puno. Balsa Inn has wonderful staff that assisted us with getting a Doctor, and then getting the prescription for us. Rooms are clean, and the breakfast was scrambled eggs, toast with jams, fruit, coffee and tea, bread buns and meats, cereal. Location, you are just 2 blocks from Plaza de Armas, and shopping.
Basic necessities for the night are provided here and realistic expectations should rule and you will not be disappointed. The location is conveniently located within walking distances to eateries and mom and pop stores.
There are several different room options available at the Balsa Hotel. However, even though we requested two rooms with queen beds on our reservation, we ended up getting two rooms with single beds in each of them because no queen beds were available. The hotel is older but kept nice and clean. This location is convenient in that it is walking distance from the main square, restaurants and shopping. The walls are thin and even conversations could be heard from the adjoining rooms. Luckily the two nights we stayed there, most people were quiet relatively early. But, the rooms facing the road are especially noisy with all the cars beeping their horns constantly. We had one of those street facing rooms on the first night and it was annoying. The showers were good and had hot water but we had issues with the toilets not flushing properly. There is a small elevator which is really handy in taking luggage up a few flights. We had a buffet breakfast included which consited of various breads, meat and cheese, fruit, yogurt, juice, teas and coffee. They also had a pot of hot water for tea at any time. Cocoa leaves along with muna stems (mint like herb) were available to infuse for drinking to help with any issues getting used to the altitude. There is a very small sitting area with a tv at the lobby. It was nice that the hotel has a luggage storage room and that they were able to keep our bags while we did a homestay on Amantani Island. When we returned for our second night, once again, they were not able to accomodate our request for rooms with queen beds even though the desk clerk said she'd have them for us when we got back. After long days of hiking and needing sleep, we just wanted good, comfortable beds and we did have that in this hotel. It's an average hotel with reasonable prices and was good for a couple nights.…
The hotel was good. We had a nice room, and the main thing was the service. The staff is very good, nice, smiling, understanding, very comprehensive and helpful. I was for example very surprised that they gave me an umbrella before I went out under the rain. The breakfast is nice (buffet) but a little bit poor. Also, maybe I was bad in it, but sometime the button of the elevator did not work (and taking the stairs in Puno is not always easy with the altitude). Despite of it, it was good.
Rooms were spacious, however noise travelled a bit if you've got noisy neighbours around. Bathroom was clean, breakfast was simple but had variety and the location was good easy walk into town. Was always greeted with a smile by the staff who were always willing to help. The WiFi signal was very good throughout the hotel.
After arriving at 5am we were not able to check in till the afternoon. The good thing was they stored our bags and had breakfast there at a small cost. After visiting the famous lake we were pleased to have a nice hotel room. The shower was a nice tempature and there wasa safe to store your items. The only things are you have to be down at breakfast at a decent time. The breakfast closes at 9am but we were phoned at 8am to remind us of breakfast. The scrambled eggs were cold by then. At the same time you do get a good variety of food. They also store your bag after check out and they do a laundry service. Overall was a pleasent place to stay.
