This is hotel looks like its one f the best in town. That being said the hotel lobby is nice. WiFi only in the lobby. The room are average and simple. Lots of tile on the room so it does get cold in the winter....More
When I first arrived at this hotel the lobby was very nice however the rooms were a different story. We were located on the second level and walking up to our room there were a large number of dead bugs and dirt in the enclosed...More
I usually stay at Cabana Quinta on business, at the end of December I spent 1 night with my family. I think it is a great option to stay in Puerto Maldonado. A lot of tourists skip this town to go to the Jungle, there...More
I stayed at this hotel for one night with a tour. The hotel was nothing special except that it had air conditioning which was desperately needed and a swimming pool. I even suggested to the tour to leave the town as soon as the tour...More
I had a very nice and private room, though I understand all of them are not that way. I also had a great air conditioner ... which may not be available in all hotel rooms. The bed was reasonably comfortable; the shower was cold, but...More

I think the theoretical answer is yes, but I am not sure that is the practical answer. We had a destination in mind before we selected the Hotel Cabina Quinta. I really did not research the idea of doing day trips from Puerto Maldonado. Most of the advertising I looked at was directed at a location where one would spend a 2-4 nights. If your goal is to actually see wildlife I don't think I would advise this approach. Seeing wildlife is so "hit or miss" as it is. If you are taking day trips from Puerto Maldonado you almost certainly will be doing most of your traveling to and from sites during peak viewing hours - early morning and late evening. One can always get lucky and see things in the least expected locations and at the least expected hours. However, depending on things like the time and money you have available, as well as the distance you have traveled to get to the Puerto Maldonado area and the likelihood of a return visit , you will probably want to give yourself the best chance to "be lucky." I believe you would have your best chance of seeing wildlife by finding a tour or location that puts you in the same area for at least a couple of nights. We used Inka Natura. There are other companies available too. So my answer is yes you could probably use Hotel Cabana Quinta (Puerto Maldonado) as a home base. However, if you are like us you will have traveled a long way to get to the Puerto Maldonado area. I don't think using Puerto Maldonado as your base for day tours will give you the best opportunity to see what you probably traveled a long way to see.
