Nestled between a construction site and a vacant lot with sweeping views of Salalah's industrial port lies the Hilton resort, a haven for sun worshipping, buffet loving German tourists. The staff here was very kind and knowledgeable and helpful, but the rest - well...If you love buffets and walking and walking to an ocean as you stare at a sweeping...

Dear James O, I would like to start my reply with an appreciation note for the constructive review while still pointing out our overall good service and staff professionalism. In regards to the clientele mix, throughout the current touristic season, Salalah as a destination and not only our resort, does indeed cater largely to an all inclusive market. The same principle...

It was my first time in Oman and the climate is actually very nice, thirty degrees, not very humid - in December. The hotel is nice, but it is not in every aspect really a five star facility. I especially liked the a la carte restaurant located next to the beach, the service staff was really excellent. And I enjoyed...

Salalah is an hour and a half flying time from Muscat so by most definitions pretty remote. The resort is on the outskirts located fairly close to the major port that serves southern Oman. The resort itself has a pleasant beach and a good outdoor eating area with swimming pool and poolside bar. Personally I didn't like the constant accompaniment...

The Hilton Hotel lies outside of Salalah near to the port. It has 150 rooms. Those rooms not having a sea view are giving a dire look at a construction site or the highway. The rooms are well appointed. The pool area is beautiful, but this is not sufficient to justify the name of Hilton brand. Except for the breakfast...

A comfortable hotel convenient for the Salalah Free Zone. Pleasant service from all staff. I was able to quickly change rooms after I was put into a rather smelly smoking room (I am a non-smoker). The breakfast was buffet style. The surrounds of the hotel are lovely with an attractive pool, outdoor restaurant and beach.

I was in Salalah for two weeks on business. It was supposed to be one week but was "stuck" there because of a rare typhoon. The hotel is fabulous. The meals are excellent. The service is really good. People are friendly. The only folks with a problem were the German tourists. They are such a serious group!! They should smile...

It's small property compare to other Hilton properties but with a great view of Ocean. Excellent service. Also had a small swimming pool with Ocean view. Breakfast for good. Room we stayed was a studio with a small balcony that you can enjoy the evening facing the ocean and swimming pool. We truly enjoyed our stay.

Thanks to all for the useful answers to my previous questions about the hotel and area. As someone suggested, I'll contact the hotel directly about construction and renovations.

I do have some additional questions, if anyone has the time to provide any answers:

1. One of the appeals of Oman is that it seems to be somewhat off the tourist track. But did you find it culturally interesting at all, whether in terms of interactions with the folks there, the sights you see on an everyday basis (for instance, one or two reviews I've read here at Tripadvisor mention camels wandering along the beach), etc?

2. I'm just beginning to do some research on what Oman has to offer, but one of the previous replies and a few reviews suggest going out and exploring. So what would folks recommend, in terms of sights and experiences? What were your favorite parts of any day trips, whether they were the ones you took on your own or with a taxi/tour service? Or is the interest of exploring simply driving around, finding nice beaches, passing through villages, etc?

3. And for that matter, are their any spots you visited that you would not recommend?

4.Any specific tour service you used for any trips, or was it simply asking a taxi driver to take you to some places?

5. What's driving there like, in terms of easiness, politeness of other drivers and safety?

6. Someone mentioned sand dunes as opposed to an idyllic tropical beach. What's the beach like, more specifically? I understand that not far away there's something like a big shipping terminal but in the other direction it's long and pretty empty. Is it kind of similar to those of Dubai, if you've been there? Is it a pleasant beach to take long walks on? To simply hang out on?

7. Any other locations or hotels in Oman you'd suggest visiting if we get to Salalah?

Thanks for any advice!
