After many holidays at another hotel on the Island we with some reservations decided to change to La Pirogue this year.
We stayed on an AI basis in a Premium Garden Bungalow. The room although rather small was well presented in local style with all mod cons and had lovely views a

We are staying at La Piroque in November on a half board basis. Is it worth upgrading to all inclusive??
Hi . We found the half board more than adequate. with a late breakfast ie active morning and a relatively early supper with our own snacks for a light lunch we were very happy not to eat hotel food 3 times a day. The resturant in flic and flac are good and a great vibe and change from hotel environment. Public transport is available and a real adventure if you have kids Also we bought our own wine and whiskey from duty free on flight. Plus we went to the local supermarket for our beers. so lunch time and the most beautiful sundowner sunsets did not feel like we were breaking the bank. Enjoy Plus book your meals at the different resturants at lapirogue and sister hotel Sugar beach on half board. loads of fun and choice. Enjoy

We are visiting La Pirogue in November and have booked a garden bungalow but have the opportunity to upgrade to a premium bungalow for £600 for 12 nights. Is it worth upgrading? We are on an all inclusive package but just want to make sure we have the best deal.
Hi Darren, we stayed in a garden bungalow and it was lovely. We were there for three nights for an event held at Sofitel. La P has sweeping grounds and unless the premium bungalow is right on the water, I can’t imagine it’s worth it to upgrade. You can always ask when you get there and decide on property if they have one open. My husband works on Mauritius (we’re Americans) and consequently we have visited a lot of resorts. I really liked the pace at La P. Eating is really easy, the service was good, and the food was also good- but mostly buffets as I recall. The spa is great too. If you are a foodie and, all inclusive aside, want one meal off property, walk down the beach to Sofitel for a meal. Skip mediocre Sugar Beach and the Hilton (between La P and Sofitel). Sofitel is like a quick trip to Asia/Thailand. Great architecture. Have a wonderful time and if I can answer any other questions, it would be my pleasure. November is the best month to come to Mauritius. We are up in Grand Baie

What is the difference between a garden bungalow and a premium garden bungalow? Also, is it worth paying the (quite substantial) difference for a beach bungalow?
We stayed in a beach bungalow and it was great but if we went back we would prob go for the prem garden bungalow as there is little difference in experience I suspect. All are close to the ocean. Personally I wouldn’t go for the standard garden as they are semi-detached and would be less private. Families with older children took this option by taking both sides of the semi detached. That looked like a good option.

We will be staying beginning of October. Should we consider making our restaurant reservations in advance? If so, how I can get a complete list and correct contact information? Also, what activities are available outside the resort? We're not snorkelers nor do we fish. We would like to learn more about Mauritius and explore however. We'll be travelling in Africa for five weeks prior to our Mauritius visit so I need to plan in advance of our departure. Thanks!
U don't need to worry about anything re pre booking. You will introduced to a team member who will go through all the land and see based options. This includes touring the island and it's geographic and cultural attractions. May I suggest strongly the hotel arranged snorkelling. It is part of your package and free AND managed with your safety in mind. It is guided. Enjoy la pirogue.

We're from South Carolina in the US and visiting Africa for six weeks beginning September 8th. We'll be in Mauritius Oct 6 to 13 at La Pirogue. What is dress attire requirements for dinner? We have a beach Pavillion room booked - is it private and convenient to rest of resort? What method do you prefer to use to get from airport to resort and back? We've been to many islands but first time to Mauritius. Where is best night life? Do you feel safe at night? Anything special things to see and do - we don't prefer to stay on resort 100% of the time. I really appreciate your help and any tips. PS - We'll be in Cape Town five days prior to Mauritius and tips for best things to do and a winery tour from there also appreciated. Theresa
We also stayed at La Pirogue in june end. Dress code for dinner is shirt & long trousers (jeans also) for men. No such dress code for women. We used "Taxis Mauritius" for airport pick & drop. This company is mostly recommended here in TripAdvisor, & I also found them quite good. It's approx 70 euro for return trip. Premium Garden bungalow will be more private but yes beach pavilion room will be convenient to rest of resort. No such night life at flic n flac area but you can try "Shotz". We used to return from our day trip by 6 pm as suggested by tour operators. Many things to see & places to visit. You will get many tour operators in nearby locality or ask hotel reception, they will connect you with them. Use "Shibani finance" for money exchange at airport. They also have office at Flic n flac. Wishing you a happy & memorable journey.
