Fresh and forward-looking, LUX* Belle Mare promises a stylish contemporary spin on luxury hospitality. Tucked away in beautifully landscaped tropical gardens near the sleepy village of Belle Mare, this modern Mauritius boutique resort lives on a glorious stretch of the east coast. Designer Kelly Hoppen breathed inspiration into the interiors, and it's as seductive to honeymooners as fun for multi-generational and family escapes. Uninterrupted soul-stirring sea views, powder-soft sands, beryl-blue waters and coconut palms swaying gently in the breeze and the island’s largest swimming pool where the terrace gently buzzes by day and feels Balearic by night. Expect Chinese street-food flavours prepared with fine-dining flair, while Amari by Vineet sets new standards for modern Indian cuisine. Instagram enthusiast adore the ice-cream parlour, the rustic rum shack, beer academy and DJ-soundtracked cocktails at Beach Rouge—or switch off and indulge in sweet-scented LUX* Me spa treatments

We booked our dream honeymoon with Lux Belle Mare for mid July, 8 nights in a villa with private pool, all inclusive. I will preface this review by stating that I have the upmost sympathy for the staff of Lux Belle Mare on the loss of the hotel however we were left very disappointed by the treatment we received from the hotel. Our travel agent contacted us on the day of the fire to inform us that there was an incident taking place and that the hotel would do their best to accommodate us. We empathised with the situation and assumed we would receive an update in a few days. What followed was a complete failure on the management of Lux to accommodate us or to even keep us informed. We spent the 10 days before our wedding contacting our travel agent every day to find out if Lux had offered any update and I will state now that we ended up in the position of having to cancel our honeymoon the day after our wedding and take our fully packed suitcases home. We packed our suitcases for honeymoon not knowing if we had a hotel to stay in in Mauritius and we woke up the morning after our wedding, less than 24 hours away to boarding our flight to Mauritius still not knowing from Lux if they could offer us a room or not. We entirely sympathise that a fire is a disaster that they cannot be blamed for, however the complete lack of information we were offered was within their control. The day after our wedding and the day before we were due to fly, Lux finally offered us a room in the Lux Grande Baie resort, the only resort that we had requested we were not placed in (due to my husband's taste preferences and the Grande Baie's lack of buffet restaurant, we were not confident he would have been able to eat there). Despite the food concerns, we could have considered this option in a desperate plea to save our honeymoon however despite paying thousands in upgrade costs to have a villa with private pool in Lux Belle Mare, we were being offered the base room in Lux Grande Baie. Again, in order to save our honeymoon, we would have accepted this downgrade, however we could not consider it when we were informed that we would receive no refund for the upgraded room costs that we had paid and now would not receive. This was insulting to say the least. At this point we were left with no choice but to cancel our dream trip as Lux had dragged their feet long enough to prevent us trying to book another hotel ahead of our flight. This all occurred the day after our wedding and the day before we were due to fly. Those precious moments following our marriage are irreplaceable and cannot be replaced by a refund. I should not have been crying from stress on our first day as newlyweds, due to the failures of a hotel. We paid Lux a substantial amount of money for our accommodation and felt that we were totally ignored and that they had no desire to accommodate us. We sympathise with the situation Lux found themselves in regarding the fire, but due to the treatment which followed, unfortunately, we would never consider booking in a Lux property again. We were so excited to stay in such a luxury property for our honeymoon and felt we were truly going to experience the best holiday ever, however I would urge anyone considering booking with this company to reconsider. We have never received such poor treatment from a hotel, let alone for what was supposed to be one of the most special trips we would ever take.

Back from an Amazing 3 week holiday in Mauritius. The Lux Belle Mare resort was one of the best resorts we have ever stayed at. We had a fantastic two weeks there. The staff were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble for them. In particular we would like to mention and thank Hema, Veena (sari queen), Sheila, Ravin, Nitin, Ravi, Bilal, Oliver, Reshma (housekeeping)…. They went out of their way to make sure we were always looked after, their hospitality is what made the resort feel like home. The restaurants were great. The main buffet restaurant catered for everyone and we loved the food there. We had a booking at Amari but sadly we couldn’t experience it. Duck Laundry was also very nice. Beach Rouge was lovely. We stayed in the Ocean Suite and everyone kept telling us that’s the best room, we were literally a few steps away from the beach. We loved our room. The daily coffees were amazing at Cafe Lux, all staff serving were great they got to know our usuals. Was good having a coffee and a chat. Two weeks into our holiday the resort caught on fire. The Lux group managed to relocate 300 guests that same day. It was so sad to see a resort we had spent the amazing two weeks in burnt down. Very grateful all guests and staff were safe. We would love to come back once the resort is rebuilt. It was absolutely fantastic. The last week we spent in Lux Grande Bai. Also another lovely resort but was very modern, we preferred the style of Lux Belle Mare it was rustic and had that personal touch which we didn’t experience at Lux Grande Bai. It was a nice resort but as we had experienced Belle Mare it didn’t match up to it. The staff at Lux Grande Bai were also nice. It felt nice when we saw some of the staff relocated to the new resort as again they were their usual helpful selves. Once Lux Belle Mare is rebuilt we hope to come back, as we would love to complete three weeks there as planned. We would love to stay in our ocean suite again and hope it will be just the same. The beach there was paradise. Mauritius is an amazing place and we will be back. A holiday we will always remember 🫶🏻

We visited Luxe Belle Mare 26th June to 10th July for my 60th birthday and 30th Anniversary. We arrived to a beautiful hotel and enthusiastic welcome from staff who took great pride in hotel and welcome. Glad to be back after Covid closures. There were lots of special surprises to enhance our celebrations, - sadly we could not appreciate all due to the fire. But what we did were excellent. Such as the Indian Amari restaurant with our personal menu, champagne. We ate at the Rouge restaurant several times, the surf and turf evening was complete with the 2 talented musicians taking personal requests. Our beautiful room overlooking the beach was large, clean, very tastefully decorated, along with furnishings and facilities and extremely comfortable beds. The beach view from balcony was stunning. For my birthday on Friday 1st July, my husband had booked a romantic meal with personal chef and butler for 2 on the beach with personal menu. It was a most beautiful setting with candles and lighting and amazing food. Such happy memories. We returned to our room decorated with flowers, and balloons. The staff all wishing me happy birthday throughout the day. I still smile looking back. The staff were amazing people creating a very happy ambience and remembered you throughout from initial check-in along with your room and preferences. There was many things around the hotel to keep you occupied - not just yoga and keep fit etc, but painting classes, tea ceremonies, coffee tasting, cocktail classes, wine tasting etc. Several restaurants to choose from - all of which dealt with my allergies with ease. The coffee bar was a place to meet fellow holiday trippers and Ice cream bar for home made ices. Sadly on Saturday 2nd July 11.20am all this was taken away - we were on our balcony when we heard commotion from staff. A few minutes later we saw flames emanating from reception and the happiness we felt disappeared. We all stood on the beach in shock watching the flames and black smoke robbing tearful staff and holiday makers alike (speeded up with the strong winds,) of the beautiful hotel memories and possessions. Despite this, the staff still went into helping us to safety mode, and we were swiftly transported to another local Luxe 'Salt hotel' for safe holding. Where 380 of us descended on them with no notice. Some in nothing but beach wear, some with young babies, many tearful and in shock. By 5pm we were all been transported to designated hotels for the duration of our holidays. A challenge that has to be applauded. Luxe had designated a hotel 2hours drive to the south for us. Sadly my allergies were difficult to navigate there and we were then moved to the Shangri-la hotel who were equally respectful of our experiences and the room equally special. The remaining holiday was marred with sadness but greatfully remained very special. I wanted to write this review - despite Lux Belle Mare no longer been available, because I felt a deep sadness for the staff and hotel who had only recently reopened after covid, obviously loved their work, and wanted to thank them all equally for their service. And a heavy heart that we visitors can no longer appreciate the special unique ambience and qualities. From reading reviews I understand all staff have been able to transfer to other hotels which is good to know. I do hope Luxe can rebuild the Belle Mare , not sure how it can improve, but I would very much look forward to returning and enjoying your hospitality once more. I hope the Lux will rise again once more so that we like many before us can become regular visitors

Late review – Review is from May/June 2022 based on an adult couple. We booked our 2 week trip with Travel Bag – They were cheaper than any other provider, offered direct flights and had an incredible COVID-19 cover. I would highly recommend. The flight: We flew direct with Air Mauritius from London Heathrow and upgraded to business class at the airport (cheaper than when booking) and it was so so worth it. I would highly recommend for such a long flight. You get access to an airport lounge, priority boarding, champagne/juice upon boarding, a lovely vanity kit from Porsche, the seats are wider and convert to lie flat beds with a quilt and pillow, canapes, 3 course meal (which was absolutely delicious) and just generally an all-round much much better and comfortable experience which is needed for a 12-hour flight, especially as it is an overnight flight. We flew home in economy and it was the same as every other economy flight, however, there was minimal films/TV programmes and the seats recline further than most planes so when the person in front reclines you have very little space. All in all, it was average but for 12 hours was my idea of hell. The transfer: When we landed we went to the Coquille Bonaire desk to let them know we were ready for our hotel transfer. We were provided with cold water and I was given a complimentary lovely beach bag. Within 5 minutes our driver arrived and although we had paid for a shared transfer we were actually given a private transfer. The driver was very friendly, helpful and professional. The transfer took around 1 hour and on the way he was giving us a few history details and tips for our stay in Mauritius. It was very helpful with it being our first time on the island. The hotel: We pulled up to the hotel and for the first time in my life it took my breath away. I literally shouted “WOW” out loud. I can’t even describe the beauty of the whole hotel, it just has the ultimate wow factor with every corner you turn. It is modern without losing the Mauritian feel and is very very clean. The wishing tree area and the fish pond/Gazebo area is very tranquil, a nice place to relax and unwind. The weekly flower arrangements in the lobby were beautiful. There is plenty for children to do during the day around the hotel. There is lots of beach/sea activities to do every day including a glass bottom boat and snorkelling trip. The hotel also has evening entertainment but in my opinion is not great. The WiFi is free and has very good coverage. The hotel also uses an app or guests to book activities and restaurants which was very easy to use. The traditional English red phone boxes to call home are a very nice touch too. Quirky! Tipping is not mandatory in Mauritius, however, should you wish to tip the hotel staff you are able to add a gratuity to your bill or you can make use of the hotel tipping box where guests are able to put cash upon checkout. Tips are evenly shared between all staff. The beach is stunning – The hotel has a very large section and it is maintained very well. The sand is very white and soft, the sea is crystal clear and you are able to walk out into the sea with ease. I would recommend sea shoes/sliders if you want to walk down the beach to the next resorts as there is a rocky section. The pool: The pool loungers had cushioned covers on which were comfortable. It was lacking a few cabana beds though for ultimate luxury in my opinion though. Pool/beach towels were free, no deposit required. There was always 3 or 4 Kilner jays filled with infused waters by the pool to keep hydrated. The waiting staff were alerted by a buzzer located on each cluster of loungers on the beach and around the pool. They were very attentive and took food and drink orders. Restaurants/Bar: Mixe – The buffet was plentiful with lots of variety for breakfast and dinner and each night was themed (Mauritian, Arabic, Mediterranean, Indian etc). Indian night was our favourite, the curries made were delicious. I was able to try lots of new foods in Mixe that I would never normally try. The pastries at both breakfast and desserts at dinner were a work of art. Duck Laundry – dedicated Chinese restaurant. OMG. Absolutely incredible. From the décor to the food, everything was incredible. Amari by Vineet – dedicated Indian restaurant. Again… Absolutely incredible. This is not included in all-inclusive but all-inclusive guests get 30% discount. We went here for my 30th Birthday as a special treat and it did not disappoint. I even got a birthday desert with candles and singing staff which was nice. However, this was NOT complimentary, my partner had to pay for this which is a bit different to other resorts I have stayed at. Beach Rouge – Very intimate feeling despite its large size. Some evenings there was mild entertainment alongside dinner service which was nice. Food truck – Very nice lunch time food serving less formal choices such as hot dogs, wraps and burgers. ICI – Ice cream bar. The hotel make their own ice cream and it did not disappoint. I tried a pineapple and chilli sorbet and it was so good! They serve normal flavours but also flavours you wouldn’t find in other places. They even have vegetable ice lollies – Carrot, avocado etc, surprisingly nice! K Bar – The Tuna Poke bowl was my absolute favourite dish served in the entire resort. K Bar is where the evening entertainment is. It is a beautiful bar with very attentive staff. The hotel own brewed vanilla rum is to die for, so much so we bought 2L home with us! Special shout out to waiters Nitin, Kishal and Beedaysee. These men are something special and should be recognised for their professionalism, friendship and hard work. Mari Kontan – The hotels rum shack. WOW. As a big rum lover I was in heaven. They do taste sessions and brew their own rum here. The staff that work in Mari Kontan are very knowledgeable. Café Lux – Coffee and cake bar. Wide variety of coffee and cakes. You can sit at the bar or take away. The cakes were absolutely delicious. The Cave – Wine cellar. They do wine tasting (extra cost) on certain days which we didn’t do but we did have a look around and it was lovely. The selection of wines is vast and the wine tasting room is very intimate. The room: We stayed in a junior suite on the top floor. Our room was stunning. It was very large and the room scent used was so nice we bought a bottle of it for at home! The bathroom – Separate toilet, a standalone bath, double sink and double shower. Shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and hand wash are included and the scents were lush. Slippers and bathrobes are also provided. However, please be aware that if you are plus-size the hotel does not cater for you. I am a size 18/20 and I asked for the largest robe they have. I was given an XL and it didn’t even meet in the middle which was disappointing. This was also an issue at the spa for the same reason. The bed was HUGE and the comfiest bed I have ever slept in. It was so comfy I no longer like my own bed at home. There is a walk-in wardrobe with room to put your suitcases above. There is ample hanging space with hangers, ample drawers and a safe. There is also a full-length mirror. There was also a sofa which turned in to a bed, a foot stool, an arm chair, table and chair, hairdryer and two areas with mirrors to get ready. The room had a mini fridge, coffee machine with pods and a kettle. Every day, sometimes twice a day new coffee pods and tea making facilities were restocked, fresh water was provided, the mini-fridge was replenished and the snack drawer was restocked! All of this was included in our package. We also had a balcony that overlooked the gardens. There was no rack for drying swimwear but there was a line in the bathroom for this. Staff: All of the staff were very friendly, helpful, professional and attentive. I cannot fault any of them. They always went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and happy. We were invited to management drinks at Flute one evening. There was canapes and champagne upon arrival. The purpose of this was for management to network with their guests and vice versa. It was a very lovely evening. I got to speak with Jennifer in more depth and thanked her for liaising with my partner pre-arrival regarding my birthday. I also got to meet the General Manager Gerhard Hecker – what a lovely man, he genuinely cares about his guests and never failed to say hello to us! Board basis: I would highly recommend staying all inclusive. We had to sign for everything we ordered (despite being all inclusive) and the cost of the food and drinks was very high. For example, a caramel latte (small Starbucks size) worked out around £9 (GBP). Every evening meal in Mixe buffet we had worked out around £150 (GBP) and our after-dinner drinks also came to around £150 (GBP) so it is definitely worth going all inclusive. I only have a few negatives that I wish to add and I hope that when the hotel re-opens they will be considered: The entertainment was very poor. The hotel doesn’t call for something like an animation team doing hourly dances around the pool, bugging guests to get involved with every activity all day like you get in Europe (I hate that!), however, this hotel is very expensive and I expected more atmosphere and/or activities that were not in the sea throughout the day. Maybe some chilled out music playing around the pool (not loud, just background noise) and some classy activities. The evening entertainment, in my opinion was very poor. For the price I paid I expected spectacular evening entertainment (I expected entertainment similar to the Royalton or Riu hotels). The entertainment I experienced really needs some work. It was boring and repetitive. One evening the entertainment was a fire and drum show which was due to start at 9pm. We made sure we went for an earlier dinner as I REALLY wanted to see this show since the other entertainment all week was poor. However, due to the weather it started early. This was not made well known to guests. Changes to entertainment schedule should be very clear. Maybe put a couple of signs up around the resort and/or send a notification via the Lux app. Beach Rouge menu was pretty much identical at lunch and dinner. This was very disappointing. It lacked variety because of this and quickly became boring. Having to sign for everything you order – I understand that there are guests on various boards, however, this method seems very dated. As an all-inclusive guest it was very frustrating having to wait around to sign for every item ordered. Other resorts I have stayed at use more modern methods such as electronic wrists bands or the room cards – Scan these at every order and it gets added to the room “tab”. Special occasions – I understand your hotel is a business and profits need to be made, however, other resorts I have stayed at have offered a lot more little complimentary bits on special occasions. On my 30th Birthday the room was decorated which was a lovely touch but that was it. The birthday dessert in Amari was not complimentary, it was very expensive for what it was, no staff knew it was my birthday, no-one wished me happy birthday despite my partner making it very clear the evening beforehand and me wearing a badge. I do not expect the world to stop for my birthday, however, as mentioned already, with how expensive this resort is I expected a little more from the resort and a little more acknowledgment. It is things like this that make or break return custom. There were a few minor instances where I found the communication between staff members and guests was severely lacking. There was a lack of information boards, especially when there was a change of plans. I also found myself having to question “is that included or extra” on several occasions which made me a little stressed at times. A resort of this magnitude, class and cost should not have guests feeling like this. Would I recommend this hotel to others, ABSOLUTELY. However, do I think my holiday was worth the cost, no. Do I think I got value for money, no. I have stayed at other 5* resorts around the world that have cost less and provided better value for money. My stay at Lux Belle Mare felt overpriced for what it was. I am quite bitter about feeling this way as I have wanted to stay at this resort for 7 years but only just been able to afford it and I left feeling slightly disappointed. I also feel bad about saying this as overall the hotel, staff and my holiday in general was AMAZING. It was just lacking in certain areas, areas which other resorts excel in. Mauritius is a BEAUTIFUL island and is now my favourite country. I highly recommend getting out and about and exploring the island as much as you can, it has plenty to offer. I would like to point out that between my holiday and me writing this review I am aware that Lux Belle Mare suffered a tragic fire causing the majority of the resort to be destroyed. However, I think it is only right that I make this very honest review to not only show the Lux brand and staff my views but to give future travellers an idea of the Lux brand and staff ethos. I just know that Lux will rebuild this hotel bigger and better and I hope that once it re-opens I will be invited back. This hotel will always hold a special place in my heart having spent my 30th Birthday there and I would like to thank each and every staff member for the wonderful time I had.

I love this place! My family love this place! I have recommended friends to go here and they also loved this place! The epitome of ‘barefoot luxury’: no pretension, it is glamorous, both family and couple friendly (it is possible!). The beach is beautiful, the pool amazing, the food delicious and the staff charming. It was slightly disappointing that there was not much fanfare about our 4th return visit - perhaps there are a lot of return clients? (This hotel and the Westin Costa Navarino in Greece are the only places we keep going back to, so for me it is a big deal that we chose to return) Anyway, we loved it but probably going to look elsewhere next time we head to the Indian Ocean

Having stayed at another lux hotel before i was very excited to be staying at the lux belle mare , this hotel was beautiful but the cleanliness of the bathrooms were not great, the bathrooms have limescale everywhere and are not cleaned very well. Despite this issue everything else was magnificent, a special shout out to ashveena in the mixe buffet and bilal for his amazing daily coffees. Try book the a la carte restaurants early as they were always fully booked and when we did manage to get a booking they were empty! Duck laundry is amazing!! It such a shame to hear the hotel burnt down :( all the staff were so brillant

After booking to stay at the Lux Belle Mare last year because of Covid we rescheduled to June this year. What an amazing trip. We stayed 14nights in a beachfront villa. The villa was very modern and spotlessly clean throughout our stay with the outdoor pool heated and overlooking the beach. The beach was perfect with a separate area and sun loungers for villa guests. There is so much included as we went all inclusive and nothing was ever too much trouble. Lux are very good at special occasions with a honeymoon dinner on the beach, dinner in the villa, cocktail making classes and wine tasting. My husband regularly visited Bilal for coffees in the morning from Lux Cafe trying all different types and recommendations. The staff make the hotel so special below just to name a few. Sanju one of the villa butlers was so welcoming, showing us round and was helpful in booking all our restaurants and any bookings we required during our stay. Sanju even got up early to come in to make sure we had a pack lunch ready for a day trip. Mahon soon realised we fancied changing up the evening sparkling wine and brought us rum instead! Benji worked with the butler team helping to keep the villas clean and tidy he was always smiling and really friendly. Girish quickly builds a relationship when you come down to the beach having water in ice buckets out for you ready and bringing out your regular drinks and setting out your beach towels. Even bringing cold towels and cocktails at lunch time! (We hope your baby has arrived safely and you are loving being a 1st time dad!) Restaurants- Amari we had some lovely dinners here with very personal service regarding recommendations of dishes and wine. The food was great. Duck Laundry became one of our favourites as we love chinese cuisine would definitely recommend the duck pancakes. Beach Rouge sitting and eating lunch looking out to the beach was so relaxing and a very popular choice of ours. We hope you all get to rebuild and reopen in time with the amazing spirit and family feel there was before. We are glad you are all safe and would love to return. Jade & Tom Harding

Feeling very heartbroken to hear about the fire and I am sure there will be lots of guests who have returned feeling the same. We were at the hotel between 22 June to 1 July. My heart goes out to the whole LBM family and all those affected. I am sure this much loved hotel will come back even stronger and better and the lovely staff can have their jobs back. I wanted to leave a review to say this is one of the best resorts I have ever stayed at. Yes it is very beautiful and luxurious but for us the staff made it so memorable. The warmth and welcome we received from the staff will always stay with us and nothing was too much trouble for them. They made sure we were well looked after including our little 3 year old girl. It felt like another home for us. I want to say a special thanks to Kishan, William and Shaad in Duck Laundry who welcomed us on numerous occasions because we loved the food so much. Also Neha, Tinusha and Jeal Paul for being so lovely to us in the Mixe. For us the standout was Ashveena in the Mixe who made us feel so welcome each time we came for breakfast or dinner. She made sure my little girl had all the food she liked and would go out of her way without even asking. If I could remember all the names I would list them all because they were honestly all so lovely and amazing. This is why the Luxe Belle Mare needs to be rebuilt soon as it has touched so many of us. Sending lots of love and light to the LBM family right now.❤

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at LUX* Belle Mare in June 2022. Our stay was simply fabulous! For a start, the hotel looks amazing, stylish, spotless clean, and counts with amazing facilities. Because it was our honeymoon, the hotel provided us with very cool things and activities, dinners and such a lux treatment we'll never forget. They are so attentive, they don't miss even the smallest detail. I've never been in a place that works so well! Nothing fails! The resort is divine (pool area and bars) but the beach is one of the best in all of Mauritius. Big and wide, full of sun beds. Towels are provided, and you have staff helping you at all times. All the restaurantes are amazing. Each day they serve different types of food from all over the world, plus they have two great restaurants, even one with a Michelin Star! Everything from the rooms, to the spa, breakfast service, cocktails... The whole hotel is outstanding, but I have to say the best feature of this hotel is the vibe and the staff. A million thanks to Aniell, the concierge, and everyone who works here. You are the driving force of this place. We can't wait to go back and enjoy more of Mauritius and its people. What a spectacular place! Absolutely unbelievable!!
