A bit of a late review. Stayed on the island in September '12, with a bit of trepidation after reading other's reviews and talking to travellers we had met. Well, what a surprise!! Yes, it is basic and there are no added extras but what do people expect on a fisherman's island!!!! The staff were friendly and helpful. Had a...

Yes as per the other reviews the accommodation is very basic with few amenities but this place is really magic. We had a two night tour through wildlife expeditions, our guide Wan was amazing, a 30 minute boat trip to the island from sandakan through a river and mangoes and the open water. We arrived to find our party of...

I had heard terrible things about the accommodation on Libaran Island, so much so that we were not going to go there. This is a slice of Malaysian life, set beside a small working fishing village. There were a number of huts which were clean and basic. The air conditioners worked, but we didn't dare leave them on of a...

Where to start...why did we not look at trip adviser before booked by our travel agent.... When I see one star reviews, especially ones out of context with other reviews, I think that someone may have had a bad day/been unlucky.  I have written a number of reviews and up until now, never awarded one star and rarely two. Therefore,...

Stayed 2 nights as base to go to Turtle Island. Can't beat the location for that. Also taken to a nearby island beach for good snorkelling as well. And sunsets that were spectacular. Somewhat dated accommodation of pretty basic standard (showers in particular v. poor). Common dining of good standard but limited choice. Don't expect 5* Shangri La! Would be...

Half an hour at 35 knots offshore, out near the Phillipino border. About 20 lodges, most of them empty, spacious clean and basic. Food excellent but limited choice as there were only a dozen guests. Interesting island, populated by people getting on with it as best they can given their isolation.

The lovely pics of several years ago do not fit the current reality. Run down accomodation, jetty falling to pieces, packs of underfed dogs which fight around your feet, rubbish all over the island and around the beaches, food very basic and eaten by necessity rather than choice. Had to chase up someone to fix toilet which wouldn't flush. Boat...

I stayed on the island for three nights with a party of five as part of a tour. It was that I expected, beautiful warm sea, sand, coconuts on the ground, a dog to befriend, fed every day. If it was possible, I would still be there. MARVELOUS!

We have been to some basic hotels and lodges in some far flung places like Kenya. Sri Lanka etc., but this was the worst place we have ever stayed at. We were expecting something basic, but travelling with SAGA we expected our health and safety to be looked after. The cabins were tired ( fair enough)The staff were uninterested, would...

This was the best place I stayed on a wildlife tour. The rooms are basic and you can't operate the water heater and air conditioning at the same time. The food was plentiful and quite good, and desserts were included at lunch and dinner. I had some laundry done and gave the lady a small tip, and on my departure...
