This hotel has it all and being here is an absolute treat. The E&O is simply beautiful. The food satisfies most since the variation is from Continental to Asien. Afternoonthe is a very special and unique experience. Cannot recommend enough.

A great hotel with 2 great pools. We stayed in the old original building which I suggest you do as the new big building built in 2004 has just a big hotel feel about it. I booked for a king bed but we were given 2 singles which was a bit of a let down.no explanation was given. The breakfast...

We had heard that The High Tea there was wonderfull . Have to say the service was impeccable but what was served not nice . Canned Whip Cream , Very hard small scones , Comercial cakes and sandwiches were stale . Served on Hotel Crickery . Nothing traditional ! High tea should be little sandwiches , home made cakes and...

Stayed for 3days 2 nights at the Heritage Wing ( also know as Old Wing) to the Taxi Drivers. It very peaceful and relaxing place. There are 2 entrance to the hotel - Heritage wing is more colonial while the Victory Annexe is more modernise. From the Heritage Wing it is about 15-20 mins walk to the famous Penang Chendol...

We stayed here for 6 nights in March 2017. It was our second visit to the hotel having previously stayed in 2014. It was exactly as we'd remembered it - quiet, calm, efficient and friendly. This time we stayed in the Victory Wing and were entitled to use the "Planters lounge" for breakfast and complimentary drinks between 1700-1800. It was...

One of the nicest hotels we have ever been in, full of character. Worth upgrading to the heritage suite with sea view, the room with a room feels very 'old worldy'. Staff are friendly and they pay attention to the small details. I am Malaysian and proud that we have this world class gem here in the heart of Penang....

My family and I had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to stay for a night at the oldest hotel in Penang. Our room was located at the Victory Annexe wing, which had a swimming pool and a dining area of its own, in addition to the existing pool and cafe at the old wing. As the hotel guests, we were given complementary...

I just left three days ago. I think about it everyday. The rooms in the Heritage Wing will talk to you. It did me. Such history and charm and style. The grounds are calm, no beach at all but 2 pools. Always felt taken care of in every way. I did dine here, drank here and swim like a fish...

Spacious, clean and friendly. However we were rather disappointed by the size of the tv in the room. The bedroom windows were larger than the tv screen! Buffet breakfast spread is awesome. You will be spoilt for choice.

This is a big colonial hotel that sets you back in time. There is a main house and an annexe, the new part. The annexe is kept in the same grand colonial style as the main house. Covered verandahs, wooden floors and high ceilings, spacious rooms and a big bathroom with two separate basins, a big walk-in shower and a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Eastern & Oriental Hotel is the embodiment of both a special time and a special place. For well over a century, this remarkable hotel - known simply as 'The E&O' to generations of travellers - has stood as a testament to the grand elegance of the British colonial era. In many ways, it has also come to represent Penang itself; its story inextricably woven into the island's history, its traditions an indelible part of many a traveller's treasured memory, its name synonymous with the magical island once known as The Pearl Of the Orient. ... more   less
