We were astounded by the beauty surrounding Mount Kenya, as we had a self-drive from Nairobi to Ashnil Samburu Camp. The roads are in great condition, you pass all the flower farms...and the last 20km are on gravel road inside the Samburu reserve/Buffalo Springs. We had two game drives, and were blessed by seeing 2 liions, 4 cheetahs (a mother...

Had a wonderful time at Ashnil and Samburu just before christmas . Ashnil is nice place to stay and staff are courteous and we were well looked after, except that it seemed a bit short on staff in the bar service area. You have to go to the counter to get your drinks . The Game Reserve is unique with...

I thought Tsavo was dry before I saw Samburu. Unfortunately, there were very few visitors when I went there earlier this month. My guide told me that the numbers have dwindled and lots of lodges have either closed or are on the verge of closing down. Sad then, because that reflects in the manner in which the hotels are being...

We were very impressed with this luxury camp. The staff was amazing and so friendly. Our first Kenyan experience. We could not have asked for more, except time. We were there only 2 nights and kept so busy with the game drives. We saw all of the Samburu 5 the first day.

Unlearn to ask how many kilometres from A to B. Ask instead how many hours it will take. While on a safari, learn to get up early and retire early. Learn to remember when the electricity is on. Unlearn to ask what the temperature is. Take your own thermometer (if you do scoping you will be asked this question non...

Our first tent experience and we found it very confortable. Stayed in November so no mosquito nets necessary. The food in the resturant was good but not excoellent. Service on pathetic other hand was very good in all parts of the resort. Lots of animals to be found in the park for viewing am or pm. Also excellent area for...

We visited Ashnil Samburu during the visit of family to Kenya. Having been residents in Kenya for many years, we find Samburu to be the best national park to take visitors to. It is accessible as a "self drive" destination from Nairobi passing through a variety of eco-systems along the way. Samburu has unique animals and lots of "standard" animals...

We had 2 Luxury tents. All the tents are riverside facing. We could see elephants, gazelles, and impalas right across the river bank. Twice we had a elephant walk right up to the electric fence and graze around for 15 minutes. Dont miss the Nature Walk (complimentary) where a local guide and a forest ranger take you on a forest...

Ashnil Samburu Camp sits in Buffalo Springs Game Reserve which takes its name from an oasis of crystal clear water at the Western end of the reserve. It is separated from samburu National Reserve by Ewaso Nyiro River and is less hilly and dense yet equallly very attractive. After a gruelling game drive you can take a dip in our pool which is a wonderful viewing deck of the Ewaso Nyiro River and laze around in the calm. ... more   less
