Detailed Reviews
Breakfast buffet could have had more fresh fruit, ; dinner on that level was not very good. Two dinners at Noodles very good. Upgraded two room suite did not have AC in bedroom., very hot; the other room was too cold. A vent cut between the two would help. The shower was a big step up unit very difficult for old handicapped people. No walk in showers. Quiet enough except when ladies faking their sensual pleasures.
Front Desk very helpful in arranging airport car and a take away breakfast

I stayed in this hotel primarily because it's so iconic it's on the 5000 tenge note. There's hotels with better reviews, but apart from staying in a piece of history there are good reasons to stay at the Hotel Kazakhstan.
We arrived late at night as many flights do from Europe and the hotel organised a taxi to pick us up. This was a reasonable price and very convenient as we had no tenge yet and the fee was added to our room bill. The cafe, bars and restaurant are open till 3 am and the hotel is still buzzy late at night. The bus stop on the Dostyk Avenue is outside the hotel and you can go one way to the Shymbulak ski resort or the other way into the city centre cheaply. The metro is a short walk away too.
The downside to the hotel is that it's large and busy and has a slight old Soviet feel to it. This is also a plus point as far as i'm concerned, but breakfast was a chaotic affair.

+1
One of the best hotels in Almaty. By the way its the oldest hotel built in Kazakhstan during Soviet era. The moment you check in you, one gets a very nostalgic feeling of being transferred back to 60s-70s. The Hotel is centrally located but age is showing in the way rooms are maintained. Their break fast spread was huge may be the largest ever I would have seen but with very limited veg options. As more Indian tourist goes to Almaty, Hotels across Almaty shall increase Veg/Vegan spread. View from the rooms is amazing and the lobby is huge and gives full soviet feeling

We visited Kazakhstan 10 days in Dec 2023, and of all the hotels we stayed in Hotel Kazakhstan was the best in every way. From the very friendly reception staff Mr. Farman and Mr. Nursultan to the delicious breakfast. This place was an excellent choice. The hotel is located in Central Almaty and is close to the iconic Kok Tobe. Restaurants like Noodles and Navat are very closely based for late-night dinners. Yandex Taxis were able to reach with ease. The best part was most staff spoke English. This made it so much more convenient.

I visited this hotel, which used to be my favourite place in Almaty but failed this time. Behind the hotel, on its amenities there is an open air disco club which has no respect to the residents of the hotel. Monday, July 3th, 03.28 am. Lound music is on and loud even windows are closed. No reaction from reception which is unhelpful. Please avoid this place next time, specially when you on business trip and have to wake up early in the morning.

This hotel is unique, historical, renovated, well maintained, with outstanding services. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfast had several choices and it was tasty.
I've been to more than 50 countries and it was a great experience to stay in a Soviet built historical building that has the feel of 70s and 80s. It's amazing to find places like these instead of those cheap tasting places that hide behind being modern but are just merely poor quality.

We stayed for two nights. Check in was smooth, there was English speaking staff at the reception.
Breakfast was wide but very few hot items.Rooms were small, twin beds were joined together, mattress was sagging,no locker, no blackout curtains . The outsourced spa was excellent.

I picked this hotel because it is iconic (it is even on the currency) and because I like Soviet architecture. The hotel is impressive, though it has been renovated and so looks a little less Soviet on the inside than it once did. I liked it and was happy I stayed there. It had a great location, good wifi, and all the normal amenities. My room was fine and comfortable; it had a bit of an unpleasant odour but I stopped noticing it after a while. The breakfasts are unbelievable. I would stay there again,

Iconic hotel, most of the services were good. A room change for our group was done without an issue. Rooms on one side have a stunning view, the others have a good view. The rooms are small. Most of the facilities worked, except some lifts, which were therefore slow. Not all rooms were serviced properly every day. Breakfasts were excellent, but the wait staff should spend less time on their phones.

Out of the Airport there's taxi service, probably cheaper than the one arranged by hotel I suggest Yandex Taxi anyway, even cheaper. You can choose type of car economy, classic, luxury.
