Stayed here for a short break. Very nice hotel. In general an excellent experience. Great views from hotel and many interesting things to do in the area. The hells were fun and being buried in the volcanic sand was also an interesting experience!

Overall, I felt the hotel was very nicely done with great local touches while still keeping an international atmosphere. I also wanted to point out the great flexibility of the hotel, allowing me to change my meal reservations from 3 dinners at Elements (I was on a package deal) to one at Elements and combining the remaining two meals at Elements to a dinner at Atelier. This allowed me to not have to dine at the same restaurant as well as opening up a slot for me to explore a local restaurant. However, there were two things that I'd like to point out that the hotel can improve upon. The first is the staffing at the club lounge (and in general) is not enough. There were many moments where I was left to wait, to the point where using standard facilities (like the check-in counter, or breakfast at Elements) would have been a more positive experience. Breakfast on 12/21 was where the understaffing really showed, where it took over an hour to complete breakfast; many guests left in the middle of their meal since service was horribly slow. However, the second point us what I would really want the hotel to work on - CoVID countermeasures. Largely, two things I'd like to point out. (1) Temperature screening us inconsistent. I was checked when I first arrived, but never anytime afterwards (or should I say, the thermometer station was unmanned). (2) During my meal at Atelier, my wife and I noticed that the staff (He was Italian, I think his name is Marco?) preparing the dishes (in the open kitchen) prepping a sauce, tasting it with the same spoon which was quickly rinsed it under the faucet and returned into the mixing bowl. I pointed this out to one of the servers (Japanese male, responsible for serving and explaining the dishes). This is where I felt the hotel can improve on - in detail, three things. (i) The Japanese server proceeded to quietly scold the staff in front of me, I felt that was not a great experience both for myself and the staff. (ii) Nothing was cleared. After the scolding (and then the staff responding back that he did not put the spoon back in) none of the utensils were changed and no follow up. I guess there is no trust in what a customer points out. And finally (iii) I felt that this is at the fault of the hotel for not putting in proper operation guidelines.A person putting together a meal will need to taste it, to make sure it's good. If the hotel were to put in operational guidelines to ensure tasting can be done while still making it very obvious that it is hygienic, I would not have to be writing this email. Needless to say, our dinner experience was ruined that night. I actually shared the above comment with IHG Guest Relations (on 25 Dec), which the agent was extremely prompt on getting back to me and assured that I would get a response back from the hotel about it within 48 hours. Unfortunately, the hotel never contacted me. I then asked guest relations again (on 5 Jan) to follow up with the hotel, which was done again, but of course, nothing from this hotel. It's deeply saddening that the hotel management does not have the courtesy to get back to a guest, which is raising a health concern - especially in times like this. Overall the property is beautiful, the onsen is breathtaking and the food tastes amazing. Go there for the hard product, keep your expectations low for the soft product.

Stayed for 2 nights in July/August and we would have loved to stay longer. This is a beautiful new hotel with fabulous views over Beppu. The rooms (stayed in Deluxe room) are big and beautiful with spacious balcony’s. Both the onsen and the outdoor pool area is wonderful. The service through out the hotel was excellent, and we need to give big thank you to Vanessa, Davide, Marcus and Hirojuki for making our stay so comfortable and nice. Highly recommended!

I really would have preferred to like this hotel but too many issues with AC and overall temperature within the hotel that I ended up rescheduling my flight out of Oita and leaving early. The hotel doesn't allow Ambassador members to redeem their free weekend night vouchers, and also has a two night minimum stay for awards (there's none for paid stays). Obviously, they would rather not receive InterContinental Ambassador or IHG Rewards Club members. Why have the hotel under the InterContinental flag then? The check in was bad and the first agent got a second on to assist me due to limited English skills. The temperature in the room was way too hot but the "guest experience manager" adjusted it to 20 celcius (my preference). There were some cool air coming in but not very strong flow. After being in the room for half an hour and the temperature not changing at all, I called the front desk to have it fixed while I was in the gym. 90 minutes later I come back and still no change in temperature. Obviously they hadn't done anything. Then I spoke with another manager about the issue who promised to get another room. I packed all my stuff ready to leave another hotel in case they cannot fix the temperature. The other rooms was cool, however I really wanted to try the hotel restaurant instead of using room service, but the public spaces were kept at 25 celcius. I had to take a can to the Starbucks to get some work done in a comfortable environment (their IC was working and proper tables as well). The hotel itself is beautiful but if they are unable to have comfortable environment for the guests, why stay open?

My husband and I spent three nights here and it was fantastic. Having lived in Beppu some thirty years ago I was keen to see the changes. We were not disappointed. The ANA Intercontinental Beppu is a new resort, only 80 something rooms, we were on the club level so our room had a private outdoor onsen( bath) on the balcony with water directly from the natural hot springs. However the main Onsens on level 1 are really something to behold with views over Beppu and the Bay Area. There are two onsens for men and women they swap over each day so you can enjoy a different experience and view. We were treated like family, the staff are very “polished”, professional and friendly. Many of the staff come from all over the world and speak English. The restaurants are 6 star quality, head chef Markus uses as many local ingredients as he can get his hands on. Whilst this is not a cheap getaway it is definitely worth the effort to go to Beppu, Kyushu and be pampered for a few days.

Amazing service throughout our stay. Amazing room with stunning view. Amazing onsen with wonderful view especially at night. A little bit confusion in the onsen since they change men and women area every day. There's one gentlemen who entered the women area not knowing that it has change from the previous day. I noticed the staff and he handled it professionally. There's no commotion although the gentlemen seems to be embarrassed about it. The best thing about this hotel is the thick, soft but sturdy TOOTHBRUSH. I feel in love with the toothbrush and of course I took it home.

The hotel room is nicely designed with automated curtains as well as Bluetooth speakers in the toilet itself. The best part about the resort is the hotel room itself as well as the onsen. Onsen is so serene and as the hotel is on top the hill we are able to see a wonderful view the sunrise and sunset. The sunrise and sunset view is amazing. It is a bit pricey but definitely worth a visit.

The hotel is an artwork in itself. But my best experience today was this solo unassuming snow white delicacy in the pastry section during my business lunch. I wanted something to go with my vanilla tea and this mochi just invited me to her. You could tell that this dessert was just made. Mochi is typically made and kept hours ago but by looking at the texture yiu could see the rice had just been pounded. I knew this was fate. I picked it up with my fingers and instantly knew my hypothesis was right. The softest mochi to celebrate the new year - but that was not the surprise. As my teeth tore into the gentle skin of the mochi, what seemed like black honey nectar, possibly with some kinako, oozed out wishing me a fabulous 2020. Food in Japan is great, but Kyushu food inspires poetry. And also, the staff ensured that I got a cab that whizzed ne to the airport in record time to make my flight. Thank you! また来ます!

Our visit was excellent. The facilities are new and the staff are very friendly, helpful and very well prepared to support anything the guests need. Our stay was only two nights, but wish it was longer, so we will return. The view from the room is amazing on a clear day. The best part of the stay was how helpful and friendly support from the staff. We enjoyed the Spa, the family Onsen, and an excellent dinner in the Atelier area of the Elements restaurant. Overall this was one of our best hotel stays in Japan.

We stayed 2 nights over Christmas 2019. It was one of our favorite Christmas' ever thanks to the amazing service and attention to detail the staff provides. It is a very new hotel, everything was sparkling and very comfortable. Lots of open and inviting spaces to relax. The amenities in the room were generous and top notch. But it was the high level of personal service that stood out for me and at an extraordinary level you don't get to experience many other places. We did splurge to try out the family Onsen and it was stunning. The family onsen space is massive and has expansive views. We enjoyed Christmas evening dinner at Atelier. The dinner had an impressive variety of different flavors and the wine parings were excellent. I almost didn't get the treat of dining at Atelier, because on the older website I wasn't clear that the Atelier seating was a different reservation request from the Elements restaurant. The seating for the Atelier is inside Elements, but be sure to specifically request Atelier if you want the chef's special menu. We had lunch at Elements, and I'm sure dinner there would be great there as well. I would love to return in the summer and get a chance to enjoy the infinity-edge pool and area. It looked very nice, but too cold in December to get in and enjoy. The outdoor private onsen in our room was perfect any time of year!
