A Onsen/Spa hotel on the shores of Japan's largest lake, Lake Biwa and easily accessible from Osaka and Kyoto. The hotel seems to cater to family groups and is well maintained though the decor in areas is certainly dated (such as the hallways).

The hotel has a free shuttle that will take you to the nearest train station, which is Ogotoonsen Station, maybe 5 minutes away. From that station, you can take the JR Kosei Line train to Kyoto Station (center of Kyoto). From there, you can transfer train lines to Kyoto metro/subway or to JR San-In line to get to Arashiyama. You can also take a local bus from Kyoto Station to Arashiyama. I found it much faster and easier to take the trains, rather than a bus.To get around Kyoto from the main station, both subway and bus are good options. If you are in a hurry to see many tourist attractions in a single day, it is best to get a taxi, though this can be expensive. You can use Google Maps to plan the best route for you.
