Hotel Shikisai is a great option if you're after a high quality, authentic Japan spa resort free from packaged tour groups, to explore the area for a couple of days, without breaking the bank. While the hotel is starting to show its age, the lobby and rooms are kept in extremely good conditions. Our rooms, which overlook the forest, was...

We spent 2 nights here in April in a Modern Japanese room with futons and kotatsu (sunken heater that you sit around). We didn’t use the kotatsu as it wasn’t that cold but it’s a cute feature. The hotel included breakfast and dinner and we had different Kaiseki meals each night and Japanese breakfasts as well. The staff were lovely...

Stayed 2 nights as part of tour package. Facility is well kept but a bit on the dated side. Cleanly managed but minor details shown through. When tatami beds were made, housekeeping didn't do a clean sweep of teapots and cups. Not sure how well hotel is doing. Gift shop is empty without attendant and most shelves aren't filled with...

Nice clean place for family sightseeing and spa, male/female spa were separated with indoor/outdoor pool. Dining were very good and tasty. Lobby also equipped with binoculars for bird watching. The whole environment more suitable for older people with slow and quite mood rather than for kids and night life.

Bit of a hike from Tokyo via bullet train and then bus up to the hotel. Amazing views as bus goes up hill and it was winter too so lots of snow. Room is lovely with outdoor tub facing the forest with lake beyond. An amazing experience. Only stayed one night which definitely wasn't enough time. Must stay at least...

Stayed here in fall and it was amazing. Its set back from the lake but you dont get much of a view of it (unless theres no leaves on the trees) but that doesn't matter. We had our own hot tub on our deck overlooking the forest. Everything is traditional food, rooms, attire ect so be prepared. Staff didnt speak...

Great service. Staffs will go out of their way to assist the guests. Location of the hotel is a bit far from lake Chuzenji and you can't see the lake from the hotel. Hotel offers complimentary tour to Mount Hangetsuyama observation deck and Kegon waterfall. From Kegon waterfall, it's only a short walking distance to Lake Chuzenji where you can...

The worst hotel I have ever visit in Japan. In my concept, most of Japanese are warm and polite. However, this hotel totally changed my opinion toward high class hotel. I learnt that you won't get what you paid!!!! I didn't feel joyful every moment at all since I got in. Not sure it's bcoz they don't welcome the foreigner...

I think the Hotel is not for Foreigner to stay, their staff is really not kind to us. I can say there's no service, and let me feel uncomfortable. not worth to spend luxury time here. Very disappointment. I will ask all my friends that don't choose this one. it's too expensive with BAD service. not a good experience to...

I stayed here for one night in September and had a wonderful stay. Some bits of information may be helpful to others: This is a traditional Japanese style onsen hotel. From my observation, guests were mainly Japanese. However the staff speak good English. Hotel is located about 45 minutes by bus from Nikko train stations (JR & Tobu). A complimentary...
