The staff here are so friendly and did everything they could to help us enjoy our first visit to a ryokan. The grounds are beautiful and well located for a short walk to Toshogu shrine and Shinkyo bridge. The food was served in the restaurant rather than our room, which is apparently more traditional, but we enjoyed the atmosphere and...

My husband and I took a little time out for ourselves in Nikko, mainly to see the autumn leaves or "Koyo". We were advised that the park around Chuzenji Lake (a bus ride from Nikko station) is one of the top 3 spots in Japan to see this Autumn Spectacular. (Sadly, thanks to global warming, the weather was too warm...

We had a two night stay at this medium size traditional ryokan (self, husband and grown up daughter) in a traditional tatami room. The inn is tucked in just off the main street, up the hill just before the historic bridge. We were so impressed with the staff who were warm, welcoming, and always ready with just enough guidance, diplomatically...

We chose a japanese style room. It was quite comfortable, although my first time on tatamis. The hotel is very clean equiped with a high-tech toilette. The japanese breakfast was very good! We enjoyed the onsen very much. Most of the time I was alone there and able to relax. Thank you for an amazing stay in Nikko :)

I traveled two weeks in March with my parents, and I must say, the Nikko Hoshino Yado exceeded my expectations. First the hotel: Its beautiful, new and clean! The rooms are bright, though I will say sleeping on the floor can be a bit uncomfortable, so double up on futons if you can. This is just a part of the...

My sister and I stayed one night at this ryokan before leaving Japan. Booked directly on the ryokan website and chose to pay in cash at check out. We chose the breakfast and dinner option as my sister had not had a kaiseki dinner in Japan. The ryokan contacted me via email several day before our stay asking for our...

This is the sister hotel to an upmarket Western hotel next door where many famous people have stayed over the year. Eleanor Roosevelt, Sigmund Freud etc. I guess the similar Japanese people stayed at the Hoshino Yado. Its a little hard to find if you are walking up from the station and we probably should have caught a cab. Its...

My husband and I traveled to Nikko just in late November -early December during the week hoping to avoid the crowds that Nikko is renowned for. We were successful in our mission and we were pleased with our decision to stay at Hoshinoyado. They are located right at the entrance to Toshogu where we wanted to focus for a few...

Stayed here with 4 people during koyo season for a 2-day trip around Nikko. Located next to the famous Shinkyo bridge and at the foot of the shrines, it's a very convenient location. Leave your car at the hotel – the traffic up and down the hill can be dreadful. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming right from the beginning...

We arrived in Nikko by train and the helpful people at the train station told us we could walk about 30 minutes or take the bus to our Ryokan. Fortunately we took the short trip by taxi because it is not easy to find off the street. Our reception was very friendly and they took our bags for us since...
