I have travelled and stayed in hundreds of hotels and this must rank as the best around the world From the intimate service to the gorgeous room and the wonderful multi course dinner, everything was perfect It is really one of the top ryokans in Japan!

We chose to stay for 2 nights in one of the annexes or small private house attached to the main building because we wanted our own outdoor onsen. The room is very spacious, clean and fragranced with an agarwood block that fills the air. There is a butler that attends to all your needs, delivers daily english newspaper that you...

As Americans in Japan for the first time, we stayed at Gora Kadan to experience a Japanese ryokan. We can't say whether it's an authentic experience or not (we've only stayed at one ryokan!) but as part of a week-long Japan trip, it was a terrific counterpoint to our stays at the Ritz-Carltons in Tokyo and Kyoto. The meals are...

Hotel needs renovation. The place is very nice and translates the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese home and you can wear kimonos and try the spring water baths. But the tatame in our bedroom was very smelly and I got an allergy after sleeping there one night. Also the food is not great at all specially if you don't like...

Our family of 4 booked a private family Onsen and lunch at Gita Kadan on Feb 4th. My younger son was on a wheelchair after suffering injury on the ski slopes. We were no as mobile as we liked and had a hard time finding a taxi to reach Gora Kadan after we got off the boat ride across Ashi....

3 nights in a Suite, Nov 2016 Hotel Conveniently located about 100m from Gora train station and Hakone Open Air gallery. The property is surrounded by vegetation and gardens, which enhances the very peaceful and relaxing experience. All staff were very professional, showing the best of traditional Japanese Ryokan hospitality and charm. Superb quality and very varied Japanese breakfasts and...

We very much enjoyed our stay at Gora Kadan. The rooms are spacious and beautiful (we particularly liked the bath), the service is charming and attentive, and the food is truly remarkable. The hotel is extremely expensive, and on that basis I feel justified in pointing out that the rooms could do with a slight freshening up (some of the...
