The good: this is a clean and comfortable ryokan in a historic building, their bath is really nice. The location is excellent for exploring all the main sites and dining areas in Matsumoto, everything is walk-able from here. The breakfast they provided was lovely and filling, and the staff are friendly. Possible downsides: It's cash only, and difficult to book...

We had a comfortable room in Marumo. This simple ryokan is in a great location in Matsumoto and you can walk everywhere in this friendly small town. It was quiet when we were there but I think the fact that there is only one bath could be a problem at busier times. Breakfast was good and included some fruit which was...

We stayed here for one day, in was def. not the best Ryokan we visited. Staff are most kind but the place it self is definitely in need for some improvement's.if your up to a Japanese breakfast you should take it.

We had such a nice stay at Marumo. We were there only two nights (wish it was longer). It was walking distance to everywhere. The staff were so so helpful. They gave us some great information about the area and advice. The breakfasts were epically amazing - best Japanese style we've ever had. Couldn't recommend this place any higher. It's...

We really loved this Ryokan. Matsumato was meant to just be a stopping place on the way to Takayama and then the Tateyama Kurobe Dam Alpine Route but this Ryokan was probably our favourite place during the whole trip. Hard to say what made is special, it just had a really friendly homely atmosphere. Warm hospitality, good food, good location...

Traditional ryokan in a good location, walking distance from the station and not far from the castle. Nice traditional Japanese breakfast on offer (extra $$$s). Rooms were spacious and the bed rolls comfortable. There was a nice bathroom with a hot tub, good for the chill early spring days when we were there. Staff we charming and helpful although not...

We stayed in this B&B in November 2015. At first we weren't so sure about the shared facilities and rooms with thin wall and doors. But it all worked out great. We even extended our stay here. The location was easy to find and not too far from the JR station. We walked. There are some convenient stores close by...

We stayed for one night including breakfast. The room was well appointed and relaxed, I wish it had not had a TV, although I can appreciate that others would like it. The breakfast was delicious, the fish was the highlight for me. It is close enough to the station and castle that you can walk with decent bags, we enjoyed...

“Some rooms face the street and might be a bit more noisy. However there are also rooms facing the side away from the street (slightly smaller rooms).”

“I stayed at a small single room in the 2nd floor. If you're very sensitive to noise like me ( I sleep with them daily) , then please bring ear plugs then it should be OK”

“Since there were three of us we had the large central room, but I suspect a side-room would be quieter and have less "light pollution".”
