My husband and I had a wonderful 3 nights here and I could have happily stayed there for longer. The staff were friendly and hospitality and went out of their way to ensure that we had everything we needed. The staff spoke less English than in other places we stayed although that added to the experience of the stay and... More

Matsumoto is a lovely little town surrounded by mountains. This Ryokan is a perfect match. The building is full of traditional character. The onsen is good and there is a private onsen which can be booked. The food is excellent and is served course by course, and even includes some Western dishes. So put on your yutaka and get into... This ryokan has some good features, the first one being that it's in Matsumoto (although a bus ride from the city centre) - a place well worth visiting and a highlight of our trip to Japan. There was a mess-up with our room in that we had booked a non-smoking room but were given a room that smelled of stale... More

A great property ! Spacious and yet feeling private. The room was nice, the private bath felt like a treat, and the views on the small garden where just so special and relaxing. I regret spending only 1 night in this ryokan ! The staff does not speak much English, but that makes the experience even more real. Highly recommended.

We only stayed 1 night here but I wish we had more! The staff were so helpful and friendly - not too much English though, but that did not stop them from trying. The room was large and clean and very comfortable. We also tried the outdoor onsen. I would highly recommend staying here.

we upgraded to room with our own natural hot spring tub and it was totally worth it. also, every day we got the key for the private onsen which was amazing. the food was very traditional each day so as a foreigner, I enjoyed some of it (75%) but at times it was too different for me. overall loved this... Arriving in Matsumoto by car, a backstreet warren is the last place you would expect to find a wealth of fine ryokan, but this property was an excellent discovery, 4km from the castle, and filled with outstanding food of the region - and sake, and multiple indoor and outdoor baths; they even allowed us to use the private family bath... The Hotel is right at the edge of Matsumoto at the base of the mountains and as such is very quite. The Hotel its self is a very traditional Ryokan, with lovey large bedroom rooms some with on suites inc very large baths with views over your own private Japanese garden. They even provide Japanese robes for wearing around the... More

We were looking for a traditional ryokan experience and we weren't disappointed. The staff were amazing and spoke much better English than we were expecting. They rearranged our dinner to allow us to enjoy the private onsen and also provided a meat free meal with very short notice. A great retreat from the hustle and bustle of tokyo.

Just want to start by saying that this ryokan isn't really in matsumoto. However, we found that you could see the sights of matsumoto easily in a few hours and then take the bus or taxi (c.1800 yen) to this place. The ryokan is very nice. It has the nicest onsen that we have seen so far with an inside... More
