Stayed one night on a recent trip to Takayama and Shirakawago from Nagoya. The inn was about a 5-10 minute walk from the train station and located near a some nice eateries. It was snowing the entire visit but the hotel was warm and inviting. The room is extremely simple, with shared baths and communal sinks. But everything seemed clean...

Our stay was in late October and the weather was beautiful. I left my journal on the last day of our stay in the room. While awaiting the train, the young lady from the Minshuku walked (probably very rapidly) to the train station, located me in the line and hurried away. This was very surprising and incredible service. The rest...

Love the way they designed each room with your own gate, it's as if you're coming home :) the hot bath is a real bonus, only setback is the bathing time...if you arrive after 10am, you can't use till 4pm. Otherwise nothing to complain :)

Excellent location, owner is a very polite and kind lady, she waited us until late to be able to help us check in. Super clean tatami room, big public onsen. Parking just beside very convenient. No luxurious or fancy details but, more than enough to stay a few nights at a petty town. Just like most traditional Japanese house, no...

The location of Minshuku Kuwataniya can't be beat - 5 minutes from the bus and train station. On a main(ish) road but we were at the back and not bothered by any noise. The Japanese style room we stayed in was quite spacious and very clean, plenty of towels. The futons were comfortable enough. The public bath was a plus,...

Loved this place when first stayed here, haven't stayed anywhere else in Takayama. It is a couple of minutes walk from the station and the canal and the museums and... You get the idea. It is quiet and friendly. The baths are a bit small but if it is just you it is not an issue.

Stayed in this minshuku for the second time. The owner has renovated the place and it is newer and more pleasant. The daughter of the innkeeper has taken over the place and though spoke little English, is a pleasant and accommodating person. The room rates are reasonable which come with breakfast, prepared in japanese style and typical of Takayama diet...

It's a basic simple clean guesthouse for anyone who wants to spend the night. The location is great. It's a few minutes walk away from the main street and roughly 10 minutes walk away from the JR and bus station. We didn't have the meals so can't really say much about it.

This guest house is an easy 10min walk from the JR train station. It does not have a 24h reception. We arrived after 10pm and everything was dark on the outside and inside. The owner came after we waited in the entrance room for about 1 min. We had to take our shoes off and stored them in an unlocked...

We spent two nights in Takayama and had a great experience here. We had the western style room which was very comfortable and clean. We didn't use the onsen, but the one on the first floor looked small but nice. The breakfast was japanese and a good occasion to experience the traditional cuisine. We also had dinner one night which...
