The ryokan overall is well kept. The staff at the reception has good command of English, a plus for non-Japanese speakers for sure. We stayed at the Japanese Style Deluxe Room with its own bath tub and toilet on the second floor. Looks a bit more dated than the website photos I must say but it is reasonable for the...

Classic ryokan experience. Hospitality and service at it's best in the Takayama community. Centrally located with 15-20min walk to the Sanmachi Suji District, Takayama station and more. Not to be missed.

Good place to stay in Takayama as it is located near the Takayama station and also walking distance to Sanmachisuji. Room was clean and comfortable. We stayed in a quadruple room and it even have a small traditional fireplace for making tea. Will definitely stay here again if we go back to Takayama!

This was our second ryokan of the trip; it is traditional and on the medium side compared to the others we stayed at. The serving/girls were quite lovely, sweet and helpful and made the place welcoming and cozy. The owner was also nice and welcoming but more on a business bent. The older ladies were more of the shrewd, eyeballing...

We stayed in Ryokan Asunaro for 2 nights following 5 days in Tokyo during our trip to Japan. The traditional Inn was beautiful and the staff friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and light and felt very luxurious after our city room in Tokyo. The onsen and Japanese breakfast were amazing and the location is ideal for exploring Takayama...

It is a beautiful hotel, we stayed in the Japanese style room, with sink and toilet, no bath, onsen is well maintained, very clean, with everything provided, usually not many people in it at sametime. Room itself was very spacious, there was a small sitting area, with hot drinking water and tea. Lobby area was huge and decorated beautifully, very...

Spent one night in February and it was wonderful. We were met by host by name! We came in about 1915 after full day of travels and dinner at local restaurant. Having a perfect room, with hot tea ready, yaccata robes that fit well for taller Americans, made us feel very welcome. The inside Onsen was smaller than some but...

Might actually come back to Takayama just to stay at this place again. SUPER friendly and welcoming with a warm family feel, this is a great place for a ryokan experience (first-timers included). Both the western and Japanese breakfasts were delicious (so, make sure to get one as part of your stay and wear your yukata!).
