Came back after 6 years. Still great. Being able to go in a private indoor/outdoor onsen is great. The property is beautiful especially in the fall with the leaves changing. Their english is limited, but you can still get by. I will say the only minor critique is that the food is not quite as good as I last remember....

What an amazing experience! Everything we could have hoped for when searching for an Onsen Ryokan. The bus from Takayama winds up beautiful mountain roads. You can feel the world sliding away. The bus stop is right in front of the Ryokan. The staff greets you, you take your shoes off, and enter a magical world. Great service, great food,...

In remote Fukuchi Onsen town we spontaneously decided to stay for one night in this amazing place. As soon as you enter, you sense the traditions and smell the atmospheric fireplaces. The onsen baths are beautiful and the diner and breakfast are excuisite. Local famous dishes like trout and Hida beef which you eat accompanied by great service. (One of)...

We were treated to a weekend visit to this superb establishment by our Japanese friends. The food is quite excellent with seasonal produce and fabulous Hida beef grilled at the table. Hot spring baths inside and out were wonderful as was a visit, recommended by the owner, to the public open air bath a little down the hill from the...

We spent one night at this onsen and it was excellent. Service was very friendly and several straff members spoke english. Onsen was very good, hot and nice. Kaiseki food was delicious and abundant. Would definately come back. We have visited a few good onsen and this is one of the best so far.

We had a great time at this ryokan, our room was enormous and very comfortable. The private onsen, in a wonderful setting, were clean and relaxing. Top service and very tasty traditional food complete the picture. The only downside are the surroundings which don't have much to offer. Anyway, we really enjoyed our 2 days and will definitely head to...

It was a long journey from Tokyo. Especially in winter the trains and the bus can be delayed, which caused our trip to occupy nearly a whole day, forth and also back. If you are a little bit more fortunate with the weather and the connections than we were, it should take a much shorter time though, the total transportation...

We stayed here for one night as part of our honeymoon trip. It is easy to get to using the buses from Hiyaru Onsen and the bus stop is right outside the Onsen which is handy. It is essentially a traditional Japanese inn which feels very rustic with an atmospheric burning irori in the reception area and several baths to...

We stayed two nights (September 2014) at this amazing traditional Japanese ryokan. We had a – what seemed to be – a real authentic Japanese ryokan apartment with a sitting room and adjacent garden view room, open fire place room with the fire prepared and ready to light to cook tea in the tea pot hanging from the ceiling, a...

We have such fond memories of Yumoto Choza, and we only stayed there one night! It was pretty booked when arranging our travels, but we knew we had to try it. We were visiting during November and we could see the red leaves of the changing trees from our window. It was a magical time. The reception area with fur...
