Fantastic traditional ryokan, with good facilities including both ladies and gents hot bath, friendly and helpful staff and tasty and beautifully presented food. Both breakfast and dinner were very tasty. Served Japanese style but with pits under the table so much, much easier for Westerners to sit under. I'd stay here again if I came back to Japan.

Centrally located, this is a very nice Ryokan with an awesome friendly staff. It has shared toilet and bathrooms but very clean and well maintained. The hot pool is ok, don't expect something fancy but it does the job. The breakfast is super great and served with love. The room is well equipped and the matrices are very cosy to...

We have been staying in quite a few ryokan around Japan - sleeping on futons on the floor in smallish rooms - just like Sosuke. Sosuke is a nice ryokan, with some wardrobe space (including space to get your suitcases out of the way), a low table and cushions, a small flat-screen TV that we never bothered with, towels, yukata...

Our family of 5 stayed for four nights at Sosuke in Takayama. Our stay was perfect, the hosts exceeded all our expectations offering excellent advice on all the best sights ensuring we had a fabulous time exploring Takayama and the stunning surrounding areas. The rooms were traditional however every extra comfort was provided including fresh towels everyday. The breakfast was...

Minshuku Sosuke it a short walk from Takayama Station, across the street from the Takayama Green Hotel. The food is excellent and very cheap, I would recommend eating dinner there every night you stay. Sosuke also has a small bathing room, but for a real onsen, just head across the street to the Takayama Green, they have a gigantic one....

Of all the places I stayed during my travels in Japan Minshuku Sousuke was the worst. It's located near the train station and the staff speak English well, but the room you get is spartan, derelict, and overlooking a noisy road. Hilariously, the owners left a note on the table saying something like "this room might look ramshackle but we...

A large Ryokan with quite large rooms and shared bathroom facilities. Very clean and the staff were helpful. The futons were a bit thin for us and the pillows tiny. The traditional Japanese meals that we had here were wonderful. The walls are (Japanese) thin, so noise from neighbouring rooms, late arrivals and early departures are a bit of a...

I first stayed in this Minshuku in 1986 and always vowed to go back to it and to Takayama. Well, this August we got our chance and we spent one night here on our two week trip (family of five). Whereas in 1986 I think it was more rural it is now on a busy road but I have to...

THIS IS A RYOKEN, which is basically the same as a hostel, just japaneese style. The people were nice... But the location is so close to the road, which makes a lot of traffic noise. We slept on futons on the floor and getting extra, in order to sleep better, made no improvement. It was like the futons had just...

I think the highlight of our one night stay at Sosuke was the food, so I'd probably recommend Sosuke more for people who want to drink the meals. We ate dinner and breakfast at the inn, and enjoyed both a lot. The room was simple but pleasant. You have to make up your own beds, and I'm not convinced we...
