I have to say the entrance to the Ryokan takes your breath away especially at winter time. It's less than a 5 min walk from Shinzanzou-mae bus stop so it's easy to get to. I can go on and on about how Great the food was but I shall let the pictures do it's job. The outdoor onsens both public...

Not exactly a ryokan. More like an inn. The informality suited us very well. We found our previous experience in a more traditional setup in Kyoto rather rigid and stifling. We decided to stay here two nights after learning about their amazing natural outdoor hot spring baths and its proximity to the Shinhotaka Ropeway. Our family of four stayed in...

The location is situated very scenic just across a hanging bridge from the main road. The rooms are spacious, very clean and beautiful. Everything is very peaceful and quiet. Ideal for relaxation. The staff is super friendly and very helpful and offered us transportation several times. Different onsen are available, public and private mixed and men and women separated. The...

We stayed at this wonderful ryokan for two nights. While an older property, it is kept up very well and it is super clean. The dinner option you can book in addition to your stay is fantastic and we highly recommend the experience. The onsens are, as described, right by the river, at the foot of the mountains. They have...

The location of Shinzansou is outstanding. Crossing the wooden bridge over the rushing river, looking up through the mountains, getting a look at the hot springs - breath taking. This is why you stay here. I got to swim in the river a few times during the day and then sit in hot springs at night. However this is also...

We had one of the most incredible stays at Shinzansou. Everything was perfect! The staff were so lovely/the rooms were clean & ours had a fantastic view of the mountain & bridge (room 203). All amenities were very clean & up to date. Getting places was really easy. It's a very short walk (5mins) to the Ropeway or the staff...

We stayed for 2 nights and wouldn't advise people to stay for any less as it is a way out from everywhere. We took a train from Tokyo to Matsumoto then a bus to the ryokan (you need to change buses at hirayu onsen and get on another bus to shin hotaka rope way and the penultimate stop is shinzansou),...

We stayed here for 2 nights to explore the northern alps. If you’re coming from Tokyo be sure to make an early start as it will take 8hrs min! We left late morning and arrived shortly after 9pm so consequently missed dinner. Also, be aware that it’s a 90 min bus ride from Takayama and you’ll need to get off...

I would recommend coming to this lodge/onsen. It ain't fancy and so if that's what you're looking for stay away. But if you want an authentic Japanese experience, this is it. Ryokan style tatami rooms are nice and large and we slept like babies in traditional Japanese beds with the sound of the roaring river rushing right by all night....

We visted Shinzansou specifically for its onsen. It cost 500 yen per person for the day and then for woman its another 500 yen to rent a coverup for the mixed pools. The female only onsen is a bit small and has a wood fence on all sides for privacy so you cant see the mountains around you. Right now...

With the leading Japanese mountains of the peaks of the Northern Alps, the fresh air, the rustic humanity and the abundant hot springs, Oku-Hida Spa Village and Shin-Hotaka Spa is a spiritual home interwoven with magnificent nature and the countrified, warm-hearted people bearing the soul of hot springs. This is a location with beautiful scenery throughout the changing four seasons. Take a moment here for a deep breath. Please fully take in the beautiful nature and the hot springs with water flowing directly from the source that is the pride of this inn.
