There are not a lot of inexpensive places to stay here. We actually stayed here a while ago but meant to post this review. Even for the low price, this place is pretty old and worn out. If you are willing to drive a bit, there are better places further away. If it was $50 it would have been OK, but for $80-ish, you can do better I think, unless you absolutely have to be close to this area. Then you are out of luck.

I had found very few motels in this part of NY for a trip we took over Labor Day. When the first choice didn't answer the phone, we made a reservation here and hoped for the best. We arrived quite late (which I had warned them about), and had to sit in the parking lot on the phone with the night clerk (the office was dark) for about 15 minutes before she figured out that she could not run our card while her phone line was tied up. She would not tell us which room was ours until this was done. The rate was $84 (not sure if this included taxes).

The motel was absolutely not worth the money. I realize this is a part of the state with few choices, and lots of wealthy NYC/Boston vacationers, but you can still do better for less within a 30 minute drive.

The motel is very old, probably early '50s. The rooms are an odd arrangement with one door opening into a little hall from which two rooms can be accessed. The rooms are small, and quite spare. Ours had the original desk/drawers, a lamp, a little set of drawers that had holes in the top where a TV had presumably been attached, and a small TV mounted up in the corner. There was a coffee maker, but no phone, clock, fridge or microwave. That's an unnaceptable level of amenities for $84. The room was clean, but the carpet was very old and worn. The bed had clean sheets and a blanket, and was fairly comfortable.

The bathroom was small but clean, and the hot water was fine. Nothing vintage, just a plastic shower stall. Towels were the typical white cotton you find at budget places. All of the windows could still be opened for fresh air, but we went with the a/c since it was pretty warm.

Amenia is a very small town, and we had a dark and quiet night. If we had paid anywhere up to about $50, I think we would have been happy, but we were in a pretty sour mood about the price we paid for such spartan accomodations.

Truly gross. I stayed in the area because it is near the beautiful Harlem River Rail Trail. There are quite a few pricey B&B's to stay but very few hotels/motels. This placed was $85 and should have been free. No it should be closed because so disgusting. From the moment you drive into the white peeled paint motel you feel depressed. Mike (desk guy from Ireland) was pleasant enough but was full of excuses. I had no heat. Mike gave me space heater saying oil prices are so high they didn't turn heat on (hey, I DID pay $85 bucks buddy). Then no wifi. Again, too pricey for this joint. Rooms teeny and gross with chipped paint, scratched furniture, ripped window blinds. Bed itchy and smelled TERRIBLE. Did not sleep and was going to leave if I didn't have plans to bicycle rail trail. Up and out by sunrise next day never to return!!!
