Hilltop House Bed & Breakfast is a charming accommodation, where as soon as you walk up to the house you will feel as though it is your home away from home. Known for its delicious breakfast, incredible porch, and intricate details, Hilltop House is a place where you won't want to leave. That's what has happened with the current owner, Sandy. She and her husband fell in love with the bed and breakfast while staying there. Their love for the place gave them the desire to purchase the home and continue Hilltop House for others to enjoy. Located in a small town that has plenty to offer, you will always find something to do. There is an abundance of hiking and biking trails for you to explore, plus wineries and breweries to enjoy. By the end of your stay at Hilltop House, you already will be planning your next visit.

Detailed Reviews
My husband and I just returned from our annual summer weekend in the Berkshires. We plan to add Hilltop House Bed & Breakfast into our tradition moving forward. Sandy (the Innkeeper) was responsive via email leading up to our arrival. The outside of the house is so beautiful at dusk - beautifully lit with welcoming twinkle lights. Our room (the Roses room) was immaculate, charming and also very functional (which I really appreciated) - mirrors everywhere, lots of drawers, hooks and shelves to place our stuff, very effective blackout shades (which allowed us to sleep really well). Cozy robes and slippers to relax in. At breakfast (which was DELICIOUS - eggs, bacon and homemade scones!) we delighted in meeting the other guests who were staying there. Overall the whole experience was just delightful. Thank you Sandy!

I've stayed at a range of inns and hotels around Hudson Valley and Catskills; I found this one unique in combining a rustic b&b atmosphere with a luxury hotel feel which I absolutely loved. My other favorite ones generally fall towards either end of that spectrum.
Both our room and common areas were impeccably clean (the kind that you generally find at high end hotels, the one that makes you wonder "how do they do it?") but with a complete ambiance of being in a cozy country house. Both our room and common areas were comfortable and tastefully arranged.
Breakfast deserves 5 stars on its own, I would say it was the best I've had at a b&b anywhere: there was a variety of home-cooked dishes including a quiche, muffins, a kind of candied pears and more, notably all from local ingredients (as we learned from Sandy the host). Everything really just was notably delicious, down to bread and coffee.
The host, Sandy, is very welcoming, accommodating and easy-going.
All in all, a fantastic, memorable experience.

You can enjoy Hilltop House's over century old charm without sacrificing any modern amenities including central heat/air, water pressure and wonderfully comfortable linens. Even though our short stay was during these times of COVID-19, Sandy had taken every precaution imaginable from cleaning, mask wearing and social distancing. She was warm and engaging while being respectful of the new ways of interacting. We stayed in the Washington Room which was a great size with a comparably sized bathroom with large, corner shower. Everything was completely spotless in our room/bathroom and all of the common areas! This was our first visit to Hilltop House but will certainly not be our last! Thanks Sandy for such a wonderful escape from the City.

We are semi-retired and enjoy unique period Bed and Breakfasts. We arrived at 6pm and the house was beautiful with fairy lights and flowers. We entered the house and the door to the kitchen was open (it was open our entire stay) it appeared cluttered and dirty, this was not a good first impression (see pic). Sandy came out and showed us to our room. As we stood in the hallway in front of our room, the hallway was cluttered with boxes, linens, and open cabinets (see pic).
Our room was fine, there are no tv’s in rooms which we knew, we were going to watch tv in the guest lounge, but that is also where Sandy’s husband watches tv, we weren’t looking for conversation just the news. At breakfast the next day, Sandy announced to her guests that she doesn’t cook breakfast on Sundays and gives vouchers for a local restaurant (we were staying two nights) a B&B that doesn’t serve breakfast on a weekend, it seems that should have been stated on the website. We were uncomfortable enough with the overall vibe to leave and lose our second night's fee. We politely told Sandy we were leaving because of the weather, but the truth is we just felt uncomfortable.

Dear Happy, Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry that you were so uncomfortable that you felt you had to leave early. I believed you when you said you were leaving because of the weather because it was a nasty day and I know that you were hoping to ride the rail trail down the street. This is a big house, but unfortunately there is not a lot of storage space in old houses so I do my best to keep things organized. I do need to keep linens convenient in the hallway closet. It's not a deep closet so the doors have to remain open. Sorry that you were not pleased with that. Any clutter is located at the end of the hall towards our own space on the second floor where our guests do not go. Maybe a curtain? I am constantly trying to monitor my husband and make sure he's not watching tv when our guests arrive because I do understand that it can be awkward for some people to walk in while someone is sitting there watching tv. I want our guests to feel comfortable sitting in the living room without having to worry about having conversation with a stranger. While most of our guests enjoy talking to each other, and some even exchange numbers before leaving, others would rather not which is why I don't initiate conversation unless it's to ask a simple question like how was dinner just for feedback. Other than that I will leave our guests to themselves unless they initiate conversation. I will have to do better in the future about monitoring my husband. As far as Sunday breakfast goes, I have been running this B&B by myself for the last 12 years making breakfast every morning. I do it all. Cooking, cleaning, laundry because I can't find good help. This year, a local cafe opened up on the corner from us and since Sunday's are typically tricky to schedule breakfast with everyone checking out at different times, it seemed like a perfect solution to give vouchers to our guests. They can go down at their leisure and order whatever they like and even purchase some baked goods to take home. It's even close enough to walk to (half a mile). It has worked out great and has also allowed me to go to church on Sundays which I have really missed. Lastly, yes, the kitchen area is cluttered sometimes with water bottles (I use bottled water for coffee) and boxes because there just isn't enough room for everything. I usually leave the door open in case my guests want to ask me a question. Maybe I should leave it shut from now on. Thank you again for your feedback. It's always good to get a wake up call. I have to redouble my efforts to make sure that I'm providing the best possible experience for our guests. Enjoy your semi-retirement. Sandy

The inn is beautiful: the tasteful decor is fitting for this circa 1909 house. The rooms are absolutely immaculate. Sandy, the innkeeper, is friendly and welcoming, and very knowledgeable about Dutchess county attractions and eateries. She's also a terrific cook: I looked forward to breakfast every day. It was nice to wake up to the aroma of gourmet coffee brewing, and bacon and eggs. During COVID, she is also doing what needs to be done to keep guests safe: no shared bathrooms, no breakfast buffet table, guests spaced out at breakfast, and breakfast times staggered as well. We loved staying here and we'd go back again.

I decided to attend a Parents Weekend, at nearby Kent School, at the last minute. It was looking bleak on the accommodations front and I feared a long drive and a non descript chain. My great fortune was in finding a recent cancellation and a room at The Hilltop Bed & Breakfast. Staying there made the weekend all the more special. I booked the Washington Room and every detail was there from a comfortable bed with lovely linens and pillows to a luggage rack, blow dryer, wifi and an outstanding en-suite bathroom that seemed brand new. Sandy provided a perfect start to my Saturday with homemade whole wheat pancakes with orange zest, pecans and local maple syrup along with a homemade quiche and endless fresh coffee.

I have passed the Hilltop House Bed & Breakfast several times, since I visit a friend who lives in Amenia. On more than one occasion, I said to myself that, "One day, I am going to stay there!" That day (days!) happened this past weekend. My husband and I were (as well as two other couples/friends) attended a wedding in Sharon, CT and reserved a room over a year ago. Hilltop House B&B did not disappoint! Our room (Sunshine Suite) was very comfortable and beautifully decorated (as is the entire B&B). Sandy is a warm, lovely hostess who made us some great breakfasts! One of our guests is gluten-free and our whole breakfast on Saturday morning was gluten-free and quite delicious. The wrap-around porch is inviting and we spent lots of time sitting and chatting with our friends. I would highly recommend Hilltop House Bed & Breakfast to everyone! Thanks, Sandy, for a lovely weekend and an enjoyable stay!

My husband and I arrived at Sandy and West's beautiful inn in Amenia late Friday afternoon. Sandy welcomed us and showed us around. When we asked advice on a restaurant for that evening, Sandy asked a few questions and then began making calls on our behalf for a reservation. She was able to secure reservations at a nearby Italian restaurant. This was the beginning of a wonderful stay. The inn is beautiful inside and out. The gardens are just starting to bloom and are gorgeous. Our room was perfectly appointed, the bed was very comfortable. There is such an attention to detail and comfort throughout the rooms. Breakfast was made for us with options to choose from - and it was delicious. We sat outside in the screened-in porch. We wished to cycle to Millerton. Sandy and West provided very well maintained Trek bicycles (and helmuts) for our expedition. They are very thoughtful innkeepers and wonderful people. We would recommend this inn to anyone and will be returning again for another visit. Thank you Sandy and West!

My husband and I stayed at the Hilltop B&B because we were attending a wedding in Sharon, CT. This B&B is tops on my list!! I am quite fussy when it comes to accommodations but the Hilltop is very clean, quaint, and Sandy, the owner, is totally delightful! The rooms were decorated in period decor, the bed was very comfortable and the linens were top quality. Our home cooked breakfast was delicious and Sandy was so helpful in giving us information about the area and suggesting places to visit. The best was the beautiful porch that beckons you to just sit and relax. The gardens were gorgeous as well. This is a 5* rating and more for me! I would not hesitate to go back again and hope we can do it soon!

Lovely, lovely inn. We experienced hospitality at its best with the most comfortable accommodations and breakfasts. Got the recipe for the whole wheat pancakes with blueberries and raspberries from their garden!!!! Loved talking to the incredible owner- Sandy.
If you are concerned about Covid-19 related issues, don't be. Sandy is very sensitive and careful. the Inn was extremely clean. Most citizens in the surrounding towns mostly wore masks and the restaurants were very compliant. Felt very safe.
Great attention to detail. Hated to only spend 3 days there. We will be back!!
