I stayed here on business trip for 2 nights from 9-11 November 2014. First of all, it seems they don't have central heating system so the whole hotel was freezing. They put a small heating in each room, which was not enough to heat the room since the temperature outside was like 4 degrees to below zero. We organized a... More

The room was clean and the bathroom had been recently renovated. Mattresses were a bit hard. The hotel common areas are kept very clean. Breakfast was average but in an overly warm room - I should have asked for the A/C to be turned up. The friendly breakfast staff and front desk made up for any shortfalls. The main advantage... It had taken two years to modernise or up grade this hotel and as we had not seen it before I cannot comment on it in comparison. However at this point of time the hotel needs to be rebuilt. The rooms are off a dimly lit corridor with shabby carpet, and the room we were in was so hot and... More

I appeared to be the only person in the hotel so the restaurant was closed. Rooms are poorly appointed, no wifi, needs knocking down and starting again. The staff were quite helpful although particularly unhelpful when the Visa machine didn't work at checkout time!! The only saving grace was that it was near the Registan and the Amir Timur Mausoleum

clearly, this place must have seen better and more frequented times, how can a place survive with 280 rooms but only 20 sold a night? Staff cost and energy must kill this place sooner or later. The Hotel was recently sold, now called ORIENTAL STAR. location is another plus. walking distance to all monuments.

Everything is grand in terms of space - the lobby, the rooms have a living room/receiving area, so many rooms, big breakfast area - but the space is not put to good use. Aircons in the room are so difficult to control. No wifi in the rooms only in the lobby, elevators are ran down and breakfast during my stay... More

Where to begin.....have stayed here four times in 10 years, and it was going downhill the whole time. This hotel is a relic of the Soviet era. The style is worn and could do with some upkeep. The breakfasts were the best of my trip as they at least offered cereal as an alternative to meat and eggs, however the milk had lumps. The rooms were comfortable enough but not for a long stay. Within walking distance of... More

This is a sad hotel. Typical Soviet architecture - striking exterior and gradiose lobby. The rooms are worn out; the lock in my room's safe and one of the bathroom lights did not work. There is no air conditioning so the rooms must be awful in summer. The restaurant layout is poor; you could find yourself at a table that's... More
