We made a last minute overnight trip from Buenos Aires. The Hotel Plaza Mayor was exactly what one would imagine for a good B & B. We had a great room upstairs to the back at the end of the passage and our view over looked the flower filled patio. The air conditioning unit was very quiet. There was even...

With a location just off the Plaza Mayor, this hotel has a great location and is a very pleasant place to stay while visiting the mellow little town of Colonia. It's central fountain and courtyard set the tone, and the whole space feels atmospheric and Spanish. If you want a nice quirky room, ask for #17, which has a door...

We stayed for one night in lovely old Colonia del Sacramento in an authentic building right on the historical plaza. Posada Plaza Major is a small partial two-story building surrounding a beautiful courtyard which provides a quiet place to sit for reading or for enjoying a drink in the evenings. Around the town's plaza you will find a few cafes...

We really liked this place. The room was very nice. We requested a room with the stone walls we got what we wanted. The restuarant across the street stays open late so you will get some street noise till about midnight. The garden in the center is a great place to sit, talk, read and/or have Mate.

We went to Colonia on an overnight trip from Buenos Aires and booked a room for two adults with a double bed at this posada. Our 23-year old daughter was also with us for the day. The plan was to go out for a late dinner, go to a bar for drinks and since my daughter was working the following...

We stayed for a night. The hotel is nice, our bedroom in the second floor was very nice as well. We just had a problem with the shower. While I was taking my shower the water got cold and there was not hot water anymore. When I called the reception they told me I probably had used all the hot...

The Plaza Mayor is situated in the old part of Colonia, Uruguay's oldest town. It has a traditional feel to it and the rooms are set around a very nice courtyard which has a fountain. The staff were most welcoming and helpful and the accomodation (bedroom and bathroom) comfortable and roomy. The breakfasts were great and there was free internet...

A magic Spanish patio surrounded by the rooms. A very nice breakfast with a wonderful view of the Río de la Plata. Very nice room. Just in the right location al the middle of Colonia's historic center. Not cheap. Downside is you have noise in the street until small hours in the morning (I had a room looking to the...

What an awe inspiring town Colonia is. A beautiful town on the shores of the River Plate, a short ferry ride from Buenos Aires. The Hotel Plaza Mayor is in the old section of town. We only stayed one night, but could have easily spent 3 or 4 days in this beautiful town. Walking distance to everywhere you would want...
