Last week, I visited Finca Piedra for a day-trip countryside adventure with The Wine Experience and it was extraordinary. From the moment we arrived we were greeted warmly by one of the owners, Jason and taken on a really fun tour of the grounds (it’s a true estancia with real gauchos who take care of all the animals), which included... We spent a couple of nights and will definitely return, hopefully with my grandchildren, since it is a perfect spot for kids too. The owners were extremely attentive to our needs. Food was very good. On our last day a large group came, and were extremely noisy and obnoxious. Clearly that is not the fault of the owners. We enjoyed... More

Finca Peirda is worthy of its own stop in Uruguay. We are a family of 4, two adults and children 7 and 10, and we stayed three nights. We loved Finca Pierda. It is a beautiful property where you can ride horses every day and swim in a beautiful pool. Our kids collected eggs from the chickens (that were served... More

We stood in Finca Piedra for 2 nights. The hacienda is really beautiful and the food is also very good. They have a wonderful pool where you can relax. The also offer different tours so that you get a good feeling of this really great hacienda and the amazing landscape. The only problem we see is that although it is... More

We were with a Vantage tour group of 26 who stopped here for some horse-ing around (!) and a wonderful lunch on our way to the ferry trip to Buenos Aires. We had not been on horse for 20 years yet loved the experience. The lunch was enormous and delicious as were the wines (they are creating theirr own vineyard... More

We started our trip at Finca Piedra early October 2011 after arriving in Uruguay. It was the perfect place to recover from our jet lag and to experience rural Uruguay. We did horse riding through beautiful scenery and vineyards, wine tasting, hiking and had lots and lots of traditional Uruguayan food(like the "parrilla"). Excellent wines considering how recently their winemaking... More

We loved this place! – peaceful, rural, scenic, on the way to Colonia, and the staff were exceptional. We arrived later in the afternoon so did not get the full experience of the horse ride options, wine tastings, farm and gaucho tours etc. but, loved walking around exploring the grounds in the late afternoon and the next morning, after a... Early in May, while scouting South America as a potential place to move my family for 3-5 years, I decided to stay for one night at Estancia Finca Piedra. It was an incredible stay. I felt completely at home, and it just added to the charm of Uruguay that I fell in love with. The owners were so warm, hospitable,... More

By the time we checked out, we felt like we had stayed at Fawlty Towers. Upon arrival, they had lost our reservation of 4 bedrooms for our group of 8. No one at the facility could speak English because the owners were away, and the only other person who spoke english was a French intern who arrived 1 day ago... More

Finca Piedra is wonderful. I stayed there with my husband and also brought my mom along. We ALL enjoyed our stay! Horse back riding, there is a wonderful view of the vineyards and the Pampa - the staff is extremely patient with new riders! My mom rode with us and believe me, this was her first time and then enjoyed... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Expanding over 1000 hectares in Mahoma hills, Finca Piedra reveals the authentic Uruguayan country life with the sophisticated European style. It is located only 125 km from Montevideo (with direct access by bus) and 110 km from Colonia. Its convenient location allows access from Buenos Aires in just two and a half hours. Finca Piedra offers comfortable rooms with en suite bathrooms, decorated in traditional style and set according to the building where they are located. Wi-fi access is available free of charge in all of the common areas of the estancia. Our Franco-Uruguayan kitchen team prepares delicious meals boasting the best flavors from both cultures. At Finca Piedra we offer a wide variety of free and guided activities so everybody can enjoy each moment at their own pace. Whether on horseback, carriage, walking or biking, you will marvel at the surrounding natural landscapes: the Mahoma hills natural reserve, our 20 hectares of vineyards, La Coronilla stream and the "lakes". You'll be able to observe the rich bird life and flora during these outings. We also offer special activities for children such as participating in the milking of the cow, tours of our animal farm, a games room with amenities such as a ping-pong table, foosball, a pool table and a trampoline, a bocce ball court, a volleyball court, a football field, a racquetball court and of course our outside pool with vineyard views. ... more   less

“The Deluxe rooms in the Caballeriza building are a bit more expensive but they're worth it if only for the great views over the horses grazing on the field and the Sierras de Mahoma. At night the path from the main building to our room was illuminated by fireflies and in the morning there is still some mist on the ground which makes for an enchanted start of the day.”
