This is an Estancia in Colonia del Sacramento Uruguay. Great lunch, fun activities such as horseback riding, milking cows, cooking class , etc. They also have rooms to stay. Love this estancia and for sure will visit again

We spent 5 nights at the Finca Piedra and would easily come back again! It's a fairly remote area but an easy drive through the country from Montevideo and easy day trips from the ranch to Colonia. We stayed on the second floor of the newer building and the views across the countryside never get old. Its a working ranch... More

Had a nice and quiet weekend. Good was all good. Breakfast and "merienda" can me greatly improved to level the meal quality and variety of the true estancia style. Been to other estancias en UY and the variety and freshness was remarkable which in FInca Piedra was good. They always had an option for vegetarian meal but really not varied.... More

We've just spent five days at Finca Piedra and had a wonderful time - we can highly recommend it. We enjoyed most the wonderful horse-rides in the evenings and/or mornings - the horses are well maintained, the riding stables excellent and our guide, Mario, was just great - you will not find better. We were served meals of home-grown food... More

The place is very attractive and well set out but its more of an hotel than a typical estancia. The owners were away and the staff tried their best to make things easy for everyone but there were many things that needed attention. The pool was not in use as the pump had broken and had not been fixed as... More

Friendly hotel staff, speak French, English and Spanish. Peaceful and rustic location. There is a pool, small animal farm, horseback riding and trails. Too bad we didn't have a BBQ or a campfire. Otherwise, a good place to unwind.

We visited as a one day excursion to 'a South American Ranch' as part of a bigger tour and whilst it was lovely and the staff very friendly, it simply didn't meet our expectations. It is in a beautiful setting with a pool and sunbathing area, which may be welcomed by staying guests, but was not our idea of a... More

Situated halfway between Colonia and Montevideo, this estancia is run by a young couple from S Africa and France....her parents planted the original vines imported from France, and they bring the right touch to the level of service, the cuisine and the general ambience. Perfect for a couple's weekend getaway with a European level of service and cuisine. We were... More

the staff in the hotel was very friendly, English speaking. there are a lot of things to do in or around the hotel. apart from the swimming pool, there is a room with games like baby-foot, etc..., you can also play "bochas", or go for a ride and/or a biking tour. before going by bike, ensure it is working properly.... Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Expanding over 1000 hectares in Mahoma hills, Finca Piedra reveals the authentic Uruguayan country life with the sophisticated European style. It is located only 125 km from Montevideo (with direct access by bus) and 110 km from Colonia. Its convenient location allows access from Buenos Aires in just two and a half hours. Finca Piedra offers comfortable rooms with en suite bathrooms, decorated in traditional style and set according to the building where they are located. Wi-fi access is available free of charge in all of the common areas of the estancia. Our Franco-Uruguayan kitchen team prepares delicious meals boasting the best flavors from both cultures. Our homemade wines harmoniously complete your meal. We also cater separate menus for diabetics, vegetarians, gluten-free or other special diets (with advance notice). At Finca Piedra we offer a wide variety of free and guided activities so everybody can enjoy each moment at their own pace. Whether on horseback, carriage, walking or biking, you will marvel at the surrounding natural landscapes: the Mahoma hills natural reserve, our 20 hectares of vineyards, La Coronilla stream and the "lakes". You'll be able to observe the rich bird life and flora during these outings. We also offer special activities for children such as participating in the milking of the cow, tours of our animal farm, a games room with amenities such as a ping-pong table, foosball, a pool table and a trampoline, a bocce ball court, a volleyball court, a football field, a racquetball court and of course our outside pool with vineyard views. ... more   less

“The Deluxe rooms in the Caballeriza building are a bit more expensive but they're worth it if only for the great views over the horses grazing on the field and the Sierras de Mahoma. At night the path from the main building to our room was illuminated by fireflies and in the morning there is still some mist on the ground which makes for an enchanted start of the day.”
