If you have never been to the 1000 Island area - Alex Bay,NY, Clayton, NY or Thousand Island Park, NY,(Google the last one!!) there are 4 things you want to know 1) It is one of the most beautiful places-nature wise;2) There are not a lot of place to stay for 1 or 2 nights, especially last minute like we booked in July; 3) the places available are $500+/night and we needed 3 rooms. 4) The entire region is old school - think 80s-90s - a few places are newer hotels but only 1 in Alex Bay and 1 In Clayton, and the one in TIP is 1900’s. We spent the day at the dock in TIP, had Ice Cream at the Guzzle, left my 89 yr old mom on the porch of the Welsley Island Hotel(1900s) with a martini while we walked and reminisced about all the different places we had rented for a week over the years in the park. We drove into Alexander Bay, walked the strip of cute shops, (Good dog Charlie’s my fave) had dinner at the Admiral’s Inn, it was a little pricey but we could sit on the patio without a wait for party of 8 and they had great drinks!! Then we hustled out so we could catch/watch the sunset at Bonnie Castle Inn which overlooks Bolt Castle on Hart Island. Afterward we had drinks at the bar which had a 70’s band and we played euchre at our table. The next day we walked all over A-Bay found multiple options for brunch, but settled on a great diner/restaurant on the way of town that my sister had been to before, Wolfes Kountry Kottage. Bonnie Castle was a great place for us on a budget(3 rooms) but still met our standards of location, cleanliness and amenities. There are other places but not in this ideal location and that would have met our standards. I was mesmerized by our view and totally enjoyed our stay in the 1000 Islands at Bonnie Castle for our 24hrs in the beautiful 1000 Islands!! We did everything in we wanted to!

Hotel's Favourite
When we first took a look at Bonnie Castle in June 2021 it was in a bit of a sad state. The windows were dirty, the carpeting hadn't been vacuumed for ages, the entrance was shabby but this was a military wedding and in the time frame, had not much to choose from in the area. Covid had taken its toll and employees to clean and get the hotel in shape were hard to find. Fast forward to the rehearsal the day before the wedding - it was looking quite good! Much better than it had in June and the wedding coordinator at Bonnie, Bobby-Sue Roller, said that everything would be taken care of and that they had hired some top of the line 'front-of'house' housekeeping staff. Also they had a groundsman who would take care of the millions of pine needles and keep them off our daughter's wedding dress 'train'. Wedding day arrived and the venue was spotless. In addition Bobbie-Sue (unbeknownst to me and certainly not paid by us) became a 'Wedding Planner'. She whizzed around and helped us all to get in our places at the appropriate time, hid away the bride and her attendants when the groom arrived. sheilded the bride with a sheet (!) so that the groom would not be able to see her from the gazebo as she walked across the drive. Bobbi ensured that the DJ was in his place, the food was served appropriately and on time, the cake table was pristine and skirted (I made the wedding cake and the groomscake) - in short, she did everything a wedding planner would do for which they are well paid - and we never paid a dime towards this. Surely, she would be an enormous asset to any wedding venue or hotel. Amazing service. And she did all of this with a smile and made sure we were good to go well after the time when most employees would have been long gone to their homes. I can recommend Bonnie Castle without reservation but mostly because of the service and professionalism of Bobbi-Sue. She is a gem.

Chose the spot due to its proximity to Heart Island. Was for our 10th wedding anniversary. Should have read the reviews! First, they switched our room when we arrived; after being told we would have a king room that opened into the pool area(the only king left, mind you) we ended up down in back by the marina. Just as well, there's apparently a $500 fine if you step off your room balcony into the pool area either before it opens at 9am or after it closes at 9pm Saw its heyday in the 1970's. Updates have been sporadic, if at all. Room was perpetually damp and musty, bath towels wouldn't dry, the newer USB lamps were all spotted with rust. Carpet was nasty and worn at the doorways. And were mirrors cheap at one time??? I'm tired of bathrooms walled in them! No, I really DON'T want to see myself sitting on the toilet! The only plus was you could probably swim in the jet tub, it was enormous. There was a letter outlining management's awareness of the gnats, yet no attempt to clear out the spiders that are also inherent in wet, buggy environments. Killed one in the drapes; I didn't sleep well. Literally saw a grounds person trimming dead flowers, so they do have people to clean up the property. Literally sat on the deck overlooking the river and watched spiders descend by the dozens at nightfall to build their webs. Wifi was sporadic. A sign proclaimed that if the 2 pool towels allotted to the room were missing, we'd be charged $20. Front desk needs guest relations training: some were pleasant, some were simply rude. The high points were the bar and bartenders (but no food after 9pm) and the staff at the marina. Weddings take priority, don't plan on eating here if there's reception going on. Even their launch leaves something to be desired. It's sad, as they have a prime location and they certainly charge enough for it..

The Bonnie Castle resort was quite disappointing at first. The amount we paid for one night usually would provide a somewhat luxurious accommodation. There is no luxury here. The room is small and extremely dated probably from the 1970’s, however it was quite clean and adequate if not completely comfortable. The bed and bedding were good.and there was a very narrow balcony that you could step out on. The view was the parking lot but you could see some of the water through the trees if you looked the right direction. The air conditioning has to be turned on by the front desk but there is nothing to indicate that. We learned by dialing 0 on the phone as instructed and asking why it didn’t work. There was no restaurant available for breakfast or anything provided for breakfast. There is no elevator. Our third floor room was only available by stairs. We were only there one night, it was a busy weekend so it was what we could find booking at the last minute. Alexandra bay is from a bygone area and if you wish to stay in town, I guess you pay for that convenience. It is most doubtful that we would stay here again for the kind of price we paid.

My parents had a terrible experience here. They’ve been coming here for quite some time and decided to celebrate their recent anniversary. As it appeared to be very quiet, my dad asked for an upgrade to make it even more special. The nice guy at the desk said of course! What view would you prefer? After making a decision, the manager then came out and rudely said no, they couldn’t have an upgrade, as they don’t do that, AFTER they were already told they could. As a former front office manager, this is unacceptable and SO distasteful. My dad then phoned down for a fan and was told she wasn’t sure if they had one (again the manager) My parents waited around and after some time my mom called again. She got told “someone already phoned from this room and we don’t have one” ok.. so where’s your decency to phone them back and tell them that? Needless to say, after the customer service (or lack thereof) they will not be returning. Your guests are the reason you have a job.. maybe make a career change if you’re so miserable.

Outdated and needs a bunch of updates. Location is beautiful, but rooms smelled, carpeting stained, tiles cracked in bathroom, ceiling tiles missing, bottome of doors worn, and old school keys used to open doors. Room was secure, but unsure if would feel comfortable staying for a long period of time. Rooms were a good size, but needs tons of updates to make current.

This is not a Resort! It has gone WAY down hill. The rooms are dated, damp, in disrepair and overwhelmingly musty smelling. So disappointed for the price we paid….would have been better to have slept in the car!

We have stayed at Bonnie Castle Resort on two previous occasions and have always been happy, but I must say, it has gone down hill . The rates charged are seriously out of line with the condition of the rooms. The lamps showed rust, the fitted bed sheet did not fit the bed and came off, exposing the mattress. Yuck! The curtains were missing hooks, the restaurants were not open on a regular basis. The outdoor dining area, which was pet friendly in 2021, was no longer pet friendly and it was supposed to be open but when we went down, they said they were closed. I double checked the hours posted at the Front desk, but the attendant said she had no control over what Dining manager did. We specifically requested water view room with reservation service, but upon arrival we were advised they only had 4 pet friendly rooms and none had watwer views.

The pictures of the resort lead you to believe that this is a spectacular destination spot. The reality is that it makes Motel Six look like a five star Hotel . We arrived to fund an old miter lodge from the sixties. Before checking in we saw the cleaning crew working on a room and decided to ask to look at the room. It was old and smelly and nothing like what was described in the ad on Booking.com. We went into the lobby and talked with the front desk associate and explained that the lodging was. Irving like what the pictures show. This was no resort nor Castle. We were referred back to Booking.com and we requested a refund due to misrepresentation of the facility. We are now in a waiting game to get the refund we were promised. Thirty or forty years ago this may have been a hotspot but no more.

The pillows were hard as rocks. The popcorn ceiling shed. I'd give it a zero stars rating if I could. My friend who travels a lot more than I do said she would have slept better in the car. Will never recommend to anyone and will never go back.
