Detailed Reviews
We were looking for some peace and tranquility at the start of our holiday. And that is exactly what the Oriental Kwai Resort provided. What a beautiful and friendly place this is!
About three hours drive from Bangkok International Airport, this small boutique hotel on the Kwai river delivers over and beyond its star rating and price.
Our river view bungalow was spotless. It was also finished and decorated to a very high standard. Loved sitting on our veranda overlooking the Kwai river in the midst of jungle sounds. Very atmospheric!
The hotel serves excellent food. There was ample choice for breakfast and the freshly prepared dinner dishes were tasty and very reasonably priced.
We also thoroughly enjoyed the lovely pool and made use of the on-site spa.
As we had been to Kanchanaburi before we only stayed two nights in order to visit Hellfire Pass once again. The hotel is perfectly located to visit the many world war 2 sights in the area, but can also arrange day-trips to the nature and cultural sights around.
Owner Evelien arranged transport with local taxis for both the airport transfers and the day-trip to Hellfire Pass. We also contacted her direct to reserve our bungalow. An easy and pleasant experience.
So would we like to return? You bet! We’re over the moon we stumbled over the Oriental Kwai in our search for boutique but luxurious accommodation in the Kanchanaburi area. Evelien and her team gave us some great memories to take home. We will treasure them!

We stayed here for 2 nights only while we were visiting the WW2 sites. Had we known how beautiful this area was we would have stayed longer. The hotel is delightful and is run by a lovely couple who are so friendly. The rooms are in the form of small bungalows with a veranda and are furnished so tastefully. The bed was a little too firm for my husband's back but it was no problem and immediately a mattress softener was added. The hotel is built on the banks of the Kwai river and the situation is absolutely wonderful, I could have happily spent the day sitting by the river watching the local bird and wildlife.
The restaurant is open air and overlooks the river, we were watching a large monitor lizard swimming in the river while we were eating breakfast. There is no buffet but a very extensive a la carte breakfast menu and if you cannot find anything on it to please you there is no hope for you! The dinner menu is quite extensive and the food is excellent and very reasoanbly priced, as are the drinks.
All in all this is a little piece of paradise and I would return here like a shot. It is an area that deserves exploring for its beauty and not just for the Kwai bridge and the Death Railway.

Our first time stay at this resort, for seven nights over the New Year period. Set in an idyllic position beside the River Kwai offering a peaceful haven within beautifully landscaped tropical gardens. Our cottage was very comfortable and tastefully decorated, and the complex is kept extremely clean and tidy. The staff were helpful, courteous and attentive. The owners/managers Evelion and her husband Djo (local golf course tips were most welcome), who live on site, ensure the resort is kept to the highest standards, and are to be congratulated for this. The food and service at the restaurant is of a high standard (both Thai and Western options) and in our view, reasonably priced. So impressed with the resort that we made a booking for a return visit at the same time this year.

This was our 3rd time staying at Oriental Kwai Resort and each stay has been fantastic! The grounds are beautiful with colorful flowers and trees all around the property. The rooms are very bright, clean and comfortable… one of our favorite things about the room is that the rollaway beds for our two kids are real beds that are very comfortable.
The restaurant is also our favorite restaurant in Kanchanaburi. The food is excellent and the prices are very reasonable both for the food and wine.
The hosts/owners, as well as, the entire staff are so friendly and welcoming. Being only 3 hours from Bangkok, it is the perfect weekend escape from the city. We can't wait to go back!

We stayed at the Resort over Christmas 2021. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with a warm welcome and shown to our accommodation. We were over the moon, we had found the perfect place to stay, The location was about 15 minutes from Kanchanaburi train station, we came from Bangkok, from the hustle and bustle to calmness and serenity.
The gardens, the pool area and our accommodation were immaculate. The service and attention to detail were exemplary.
We went on a couple of tours which were arranged from the resort to Erawan Falls, Elephant Haven Sanctuary and Hell Fire Pass Museum. These were very well arranged and we had a great experience visiting the sites.
A very big thank you to Evelien & Djo and their staff for making our stay so memorable.
We would highly recommend the resort and look forward to returning one day.

We keep on coming back to this little chunk of paradise. This is a small resort, run by the delightful Djo and Evelien, and the most wonderful staff that one could hope to meet. Sorry... but there are lots of superlatives to follow...
Arrival is like being immersed in a warm fragrant bath. The face towel, the drink and a haze of beautifully tended garden that you only truly appreciate by slowly walking back to your cottage after a fulfilling and imaginatively prepared breakfast. The cottages; each one framed in a wealth of oriental bushes, trees and flowers. Each one with a verandah, a spacious en-suite room (tastefully furnished to compliment the surroundings), and a large and comfortable bed that only the prospect of the awaiting sumptuous breakfast will make you get up.
I have written reviews about this resort in the past, and whenever we return it's like coming back to an old friend. Everything about this place shouts; Holiday, Relax, Enjoy! I love what Kanchanaburi has to offer us tourists, but I could not enjoy it nearly as much without this little chunk of paradise.

We are so glad we chose this location for our family vacation. Although it is about 10 min out of the heart of the town, it was worth it! Owners obviously put thought into ever detail of the experience. Rooms are huge and incredibly beautiful. Best family room we've ever had! Property was quiet with lots of privacy. Kids loved the goats, dogs, and cats on the property. Food was incredible and there was no need to travel out to eat. Better than the local restaurants! Wonderful owners who are super helpful. HIGHLY recommend!

I can't add much to the hundreds of glowing reviews already posted. The highlight, really, is the staff. Our hosts and the staff were a joy, helpful and attentive, personable and thoughtful, flexible, welcoming, helpful, responsive, easy to communicate with. One example: my wife had a birthday during our stay, and they arranged for a special dessert for her (which was as beautiful as it was delicious) which far exceeded my expectations and made her very, very happy.
As for the facility: Our suite was comfortable and spotless. The pool is fantastic. The views of the river are beautiful. The restaurant is superb. The grounds are lovely, with new things to see and enjoy every time you look around. Even the other guests were friendly and warm.
Things that are unique, which I particularly loved: the dogs and cats were a special treat, and were really sweet. Taking a boat from the resort up the river to the famous bridge, which I thought was an absolute highlight and well worth doing. The tranquility of the grounds and the amazing attention to detail in caring for them. While there were ample opportunities to interact with other guests and staff, you always have the ability to find a quiet, private place if you choose, whether by the river, on a hammock on the grounds, or in your cottage. The massage service was outstanding and on the grounds. The pace is easy, comfortable, just right.
I enjoyed the experience very, very much, more than almost every other hotel or resort experience I have ever had. Thank you to the wonderful staff and to Evelien and Djo for a memorable, perfect time away from the hustle-bustle of Bangkok.

We spent five nights here at the Oriental Kwai Resort and loved every minute of or stay. The resort is absolutely beautiful with gorgeous rooms, serene landscape, and pristine common areas. The food was so good and reasonably priced that we took all of our evening meals here. My husband has several serious food allergies and the staff was so helpful in keeping him safe and well fed. There are many choices at breakfast and sipping coffee on the patio overlooking the river was a great way to start the day. We booked excursions to the waterfalls and historical sites as well as transport to and from Bangkok, which made being without a car a breeze. The owners are lovely people and their staff are some of the best ww've had the pleasure to know. Book your stay and be sure to add an extra day because you won't want to leave early!

There is definitely a massage place called Jay’s but didn’t try it out so not sure if they do manicures/pedicures. You will have an amazing time there
Dear Khun Panida, apologies for the delay in this reaction but I just noticed someone mentioning the safe is not secured to the shelf but it actually is secured with large bolts to the shelf so it can't go anywhere. Hope this information helps you. Kind regards, Evelien (Oriental Kwai resort)
The resort will be able to arrange all your requirements, travel from Bangkok, tours etc. They are first class.
Dear Heva34, Thank you for your message. We are located very central, so on the way to sights as Erawan, Hellfire pass & Elephants world but still only 20 min. drive from Kanchanaburi town. We can arrange a local taxi or boat to get to town in quite short notice so it's easy to get into town from here if you want to visit the night market or have a drink somewhere. On site we have a cozy restaurant serving delicious food that's open all day so you can also stay in and relax here, enjoy the country site and the river views. Hope this information helps you and have a nice weekend! Kind regards, Evelien
