Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
The staff are so lovely and friendly! Extremely welcoming and nothing is too much for them. They have pet birds which are adorable. A big choice of food on the menu including delicious Thai food and breakfast is included. The location is also fantastic and is a 20 minute walk to the river kwai bridge, the war museum and the death railway train. They will also organise tours and private transfers on site for a reasonable price. Rooms are comfortable and clean and fresh water is provided daily.
Highly recommend staying here! It really is a hidden gem.

How did I not know about this hotel? Have been to Kanchanaburi many times and only booked a room here when my other 2 go-to hotels were full. Great room (deluxe double), very clean and spacious. Was on the top floor and had a nice view of the river. Strong quiet AC, safebox, hot water shower, kettle, and fridge. TV had no English channels, which is normally no big deal, but it's nice to have at least a news channel to watch. Swimming pool was clean and was a great way to cool off in the steamy afternoon heat this town offers. Breakfast was included, which was coffee or tea, plus a selection of Thai or western options. All staff I interacted with spoke English well and were helpful. They also offer motorbike rental and laundry service. I have to say, this is one of the best value hotels in this price range in this town. For just a few dollars more than the budget hotels here charge, you get a major upgrade over those rooms. This hotel will now be my number 1 choice in town.

The service and friendliness of this hotel is probably as good as it gets, on top of that the food, prices and accommodation are very good as well.
We had a superior bungalow, and it was both spacious and comfortable. The food is both very tasty and good value, and the location overlooking the river was perfect too. Highly recommended.

We had stayed here eight years ago and when we decided to visit Kanchanaburi again we decided to stay at Pong Phen Guesthouse on this trip too.
The wife's niece and nephew were with us so we stayed in a room that had a queen bed and a twin. It worked out pretty well, the room was pretty big.
They also have some bungalows, we stayed in one of them on our previous visit.
The rooms come with breakfast at the guesthouse restaurant. The restaurant opens at 7:00am so we started each day with an early breakfast before setting off on a day of adventure. We ate dinner there a couple of times as well, the food and service is good and it's reasonably priced.
The bridge is a bit of a walk from the guesthouse but it's doable, we did it a couple of times but then took one of the motorbike sidecar taxis back for 100 Baht.

Pongphen Guesthouse provides quality service. Upon arriving at the guesthouse the staff greeted us with warmth smile, check in was smooth and we got early check in too. Our room is clean and spacious. One thing that I like is their food from breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner they offer a lot of choices from asian to western cuisine, price is reasonable. The location of the guesthouse is not far from Kanchanaburi station, Bridge On The River Kwai, and Kanchanaburi war cemetery. If you’re looking for a Day tour around Kanchanaburi the guesthouse also offer that one, just contact them at the reception. I would like to thank all of the staff, all of you guys are very friendly and helpful during our stay. 5 star for the service! Highly recommend!

Good location for bars restaurants and if you have a motorcycle the river Kwai bridge is not too far away Rooms clean and spacious. Came with clean towels and lotions. Been coming for several years prices never change. Hotel is popular now advance bookings recommended. Great, friendly staff who love a laugh. Food is great has an extensive English / thai menu. Rooms clean,/tidy. Superior very large rooms on 3 floors each room has its own table and comfortable chairs not on a private balcony but very spacious anyway. Deluxe nice rooms also some of the budget rooms are by the swimming pool, smaller rooms but due to the outside seating area feels spacious Its so relaxing here overlooking the river. Close to all nightlife such as it is in kanchababuri. Hotel bar closes 10pm. So the noise is kept to a minimum.

Handy location to walk to the bridge and restaurants/bars. The staff are all friendly and helpful. I stayed in a standard room adjacent to the pool. Decent size room showing its age. The double bed was two single beds pushed together with the usual fairly firm mattresses. Small hanging space with no shelving to lay clothes. The aircon, TV and fridge all worked fine though the TV was basically all Thai channels but some english channels. Lighting was adequate. A good breakfast was provided. Decent size pool which looked well maintained. I was up early one morning and at least six staff went through the property cleaning everything. Even though the room was basic and aged my stay was comfortable enough. No problem staying here again when I return.

This was the most incredible place in the world. I was staying here on a group tour and fell Sick. The women running the guest house moved me to a more comftable room and took incredible care of me. One amazing worker personally drove me to hospital when I did not recover and stayed by my side untill I was admitted and came to visit me a day later. There is nowhere better to stay if you want amazing staff and a lovely stay. The facilities were great, the food served was delicious and the pool amazing. This truly was the best place I’ve stayed and I would more than recommend it to anyone.

Despite current renovation s, there was minimal noise and disturbance. The rooms were very clean and practical. Big plus is a room safe. The restaurant here is, in my view, as good as any eatery in kanchanaburi. Location is good for the nightlife, but the bridge is about a mile away. But plenty of cheap taxis.. It would have been nice to have a kettle in the room. Will definitely stay here again next time
