This resort , if you can call it that was a bad experiance. Firstly the rooms were very dirty and old, the shower was disgusting and had a bad odour. the bed was so hard it was hard to sleep on it ,the aircon did not get cold at all , and was noisy. The breakfast was ordinary and the tables were dirty .we were booked for 2 nights and after one were went to the front desk and told them we were leaving as the rooms were so dirty . The reception did not argue and gave us our money back for the one night. There is nothing good to say about this hotel . The rooms on the river might be better .

Over the last 5 to 10 years I have stayed in many hotels in Kanchanaburi and always find a reason to return to the Duenshine. At a price of 1500 Baht I personally put it as a 300 Baht room with a 1200 Baht view. Go further down the river and you can pay 12,000 Baht which might suit some people. The bugs can visit either priced accomodation free of charge. The vip rooms are slightly better maintained however the location is what makes this a very good value for money experience....the staff have always been nothing short of very helpful and nothing is of any trouble to make sure your stay is very pleasant. The Thai food is good but the breakfast is the usual egg, ham and plastic sausage..this is the norm for Thai hotels outside the main tourist areas. I personally enjoy the sunsets and sunrises from the raft veranda...just beside paradise in my book and don't forget to wave at the odd party boat getting pulled along in typical Thai manner. Enjoy this hotel.

We were disappointed with this resort. The photos displayed on the internet were obviously taken when the resort first opened many years ago and bear little resemblence to the resort today. The first room which we stayed in one night, was what you would expect in a very low cost back packer's hostel in Thailand. We asked to be moved and were given a better room but still nothing like the rooms portrayed in the advertisements. The staff was friendly and kind. The owners or managers sat most of the day in the reception area not taking the slightest bit of notice of the guests which we found quite rude. The travel desk service was extremely poor. Despite signs in reception offering to change money, this service was not available. The resort is a long way away from Kanchanaburi (at least 5kms)so you tend to need to eat at the hotel at least once a day. However, the hotel's all day menu is very limited. We had lunch at the Apple Guest House in Kanchanburi which seemed very nice. Also the Felix River Kwai Resort is well regarded.

An average total experience of stay at the Duenshine Resort. Just sit on the raft bungalow porch and listen to the weird bird song and look at the boats passing by. Breakfast could be better, that´s the only negative thing I can say. The place has a very average restaurant but it is just ok. The place is safe and not very crowded. The swimming pool is good for relaxing. A average place for the cost. Great View is the best thing.

We stayed at this hotel in Nov 2006 for luckily just 1 night. The brochure looks nice and the rooms are okay from the outside but once inside they are basic and in need of renovation. The resort is outside of town and unless you have your own transport travelling around is very difficult. The staff are friendly enough and the food is good. There is a small swimming pool but in short we wouldn't stay here again unless it was modernised.

Stayed for one night in an overwater raft bungalow. The room was clean and comfortable. Note this is not a luxurious place, rather a simple and peaceful. The river was quite except for a few boats that passed by, which was nice to see. There seem to be security walking along from time to time. The food was ok and maybe bit overpriced. Breakfast needs improvement.

I booked one night on a floating house boat which is called Raft house type with a local agency. Already after reading some comments here I was scared what I will see there. Unfortunately this place was so rotten, dirty and full of animals (even in the bed) that I could not stay and had to leave after 5 minutes. The view from the house boat is nice that is true but for the rest the room and the toilet: it is dirty, destroyed (wholes in the walls of the toilet) and full of ants and other animals.. No place where I could sleep only 5 minutes.. If you want sth. clean and nice don`t go there. There is other offers for this kind of accomodation in the region which are much more nice than this one and better located as well. In short: I would not even recommend this hotel to my worst enemy!

By far the worst experience I've had so far in a hotel!
We received a river cabin for an overnight stay. The room was dirty, the bathroom was filthy, an army of ants was living in the bedlinen. The only thing to be apreciated was the view over the river from the porch outside the cabin. The toilet was not flushing at all, and ended up as a big poo lake all over the floor. As they did no succeeded in fixing this and the smell was awfull in the room, we moved in another room in the main building of the hotel.
As we needed a triple room and this one was a double the solution was just a matress directly on the floor. This room aparently looks much cleaner then the river cabin, but in the end we found out that it was homebase for a bunch of big and nasty bugs that were running all over the place. We bearly get to have some sleep, with the lights on and always alert.
Pity that the location is nice, and the outdoor pool is a blessing.
So my advice is to run as far as you can away from this place!
I'm not usually writing this type of reviwes, but this was indeed a horrible experience!

We loved it here we had one of the floating rooms on the River Kwai, they have a lovely pool and restaurant was great, the wine was expensive as it is all imported. They organised our trip to the death railway and to the Saphire and Ruby mines, the wife loved that.We found room prices very reasonable would go back again.

Me and my boyfriend were a bit apprehensive to book after reading some of the other reviews but honestly this hotel was incredible! After arriving from Bangkok we were greeted with welcome drinks at reception and shown to our room which was right on the river Kwai, it was unbelievable- just in time for sunset! Albeit the rooms are dated but perfectly clean and the resort is beautiful! Very peaceful by the river and the views were breathtaking. The staff we very helpful in organising taxis and we even got a free breakfast! Amazing trip and a beautiful resort- we even had the pool to ourselves, only wish that we could have stayed for longer.
