This hotel is very remote, situated in a green and quiet area . Good but noisy airco, clean and large rooms with terrace. The dinner was excellent. Staff is rather reserved. Quality/price OK.
Breakfast was basic. A good place to take a break.

The resort, I’m sure was once beautiful, it is now extremely run down, it genuinely felt as if it had been abandoned 20 years ago and they had just come back to open it up for us to stay. We were in a group of 10 and were the only guests in this vast, r7 down resort. The food wasn’t great, two of our group were very sick after eating the food, I suspect the hygiene wasn’t great. Such a disappointment as spending. Night in a raft house on the river Kwai was something we had looked forward to immensely.

Very large hotel, rather dated but spacious room and functional and well-equipped bathroom (hygiene products, no hairdryer). Large swimming pool open until 8:00 p.m., towels available in the room. Very comfortable bedding but horribly noisy air conditioning, having to turn it off to be able to sleep.
Average food, no originality, average cuisine, expensive drinks and very quickly cashed out.
Any breakfast, neither good nor bad.

Stayed at Pungwaan resort and spa with a friend who was in Thailand for work. Glad I wasn't paying for it or I would have asked for my money back!

The hotel is old, shabby and smelly. All of the rooms smell of damp. The first night my friend was bitten all over by bed bugs. We changed rooms.

The food was largely disappointing. The wifi worked for one day out of the four I was there. There was no point going to the front desk to ask how to fix it because none of the staff really spoke any English. As if they know the wifi is rubbish you have to pay to use the computers. I had to do this a couple of times over the course of my stay. It cost me 30 baht each time for just half an hour. I've been in nicer, cheaper places that give you free use of computers.

All of the (8) TV channels are in Thai apart from two. Breakfast is average. Lots of choice but lacking. No hair dryer in our room.

The spa was overpriced. At least 100 baht (and in some cases, two three and four) more expensive than places in other parts of Thailand. It's also really far from other parts of Kanchanaburi. It will cost you 200 baht each way in and out of town by taxi. There's no free shuttle service which you would expect.

Overall this place seems designed to rinse you of money whilst providing you with a decidedly poor service. If you want a classy, up market resort.....don't stay here!

Fantastic location is the main plus of Pung-Waan resort..right on the banks of River Kwai with lush green gardens and trees...perfect setting for a nice gateway...just lay down on your bed and peep out from the balcony...and you see greenery and silently flowing river kwai ! Its a very large resort with plenty of rooms - make sure you take the river facing room. Another best part here was the sunset river cruise. Its really icing on the cake. However I must say resort management can do better job in maintain rooms (especially toilets). Another flip side for the resort is the food. There is not enough variety in the cuisine and unfortunately there are no restaurants near the resort..At the end I must mention the lady at the reception (I forgot her name !). Very helpful lady. a big thank you to her for making our stay even more comfortable !

We stayed here from 7th to 9th of February 2013.
We took a taxi from the train station to Pung-Waan Resort which cost 150baht. The taxi driver wasn't sure where it was. As we found, it is on River Kwai but a fair bit out of town.
From the moment we checked in, no one spoke any English and were little help when trying to ask them anything. We weren't offered any tours or activities.
We had a "river view" room but the rooms are about a 200metre walk from reception, carpark, pool or restaurant.
The room was a large but very dated room. The room, No tea/coffee facilities, no adequate seating, no patio furniture, no face washers, small lock box (no safe), low water pressure, noises air con. Had to turn off at night to sleep.
The place seems to be setup for coach your groups. As we were not in a group there was no interest in us. Even on checkin no one wanted a credit card or passport so we checked details unknown to the hotel.
The resort is on beautiful grounds and extremely relaxing but be cautious if you are easily bored. There is nothing to do here. The pool area is large, clean and well shaded. A nice spot to relax at the end of the day.
We hired Scooters to occupy our time in Kanchanaburi to see all the historical local sites such as the River Kwai Bridge, Hell Fire Pass, Saiyok Noi Water Fall, Jeath Museum, War Cemetery and many more.

We cannot recommend Pung-Waan Resort and Spa and we will suggest to our travel agent, never book this Resort to any other customers. We will never stay here again.
Book elsewhere.....

If you want peace, tranquility, and a beautiful setting, this is the place for you! The resort is on the bank of the River Kwai in a natural, jungle-like setting. The pool was beautiful & spacious with plenty of loungers. Our room was very clean & large with a balcony overlooking the fountains. The bathroom was a bit small, but clean. It had a shower, but no bath tub. There was an in-room safe, robe & slippers, simple TV, etc. but we hardly spent anytime in the room. There aren't restaurants nearby, but we found the hotel food to be delicious and very economical. Each breakfast had a large buffet with lots of choices. There was live music in the lounge at night. The best part was the spa......for $10 (US) I had my first Thai massage! It was amazing & I left completely relaxed! I also enjoyed that I could enjoy a massage next to my friends separated by a curtain, so I didn't feel awkward being alone. We rented a "taxi" and toured Arawan Nat'l Park one day and rode elephants nearby another. Great stay!

we stayed for eight nights at this lovely hotel. the staff were very helpful indeed and the breakfasts were very good. it is a five minute taxi ride to 'the bridge' and floating restaurants etc., but if you decide to stay borrow the hotel bikes and cycle in for lunch [be sure to take some water with you]. the perfect chill out hotel with lots to do if you feel like it. the hotel is much nicer than it appears in the photos.

I really enjoyed my stay at this property but I would say that if you are after a luxurious experience up in Kanchanburi look elsewhere. It feels like a school camp to be honest - which as I get older did bring back a lot of fond memories.

The grounds are very large and there are many many activities to partake in, there is a very large pool area and plenty of space for all guests.

It is located on the river and have raft rooms available which is quite an interesting way to enjoy a break.

Price wise it was mid range for the area but very affordable for tourists but do not expect too much in the way bells and whistles.

I only stayed here for one night on a tour of Thailand and the hotel has some great points and some not so good.
Many reviewers have already commentated that the hotel is tired, it is, the rooms are well worn and I certainlly would not want to spend much time in there, but the AC and the WIFI works fine, the shower is hot and powerful and the staff are friendly and helpful. The food was a set meal but it was hot and adequate , so I do not have any real compliants there. The hotel is situated in a remote area so if you do not have your own transport , you are stuck on the premises, but thats not a bad thing, the grounds are lovely, rolling down to the river bank and the pool is large and inviting. A good lick of paint and a refurbishment of the bathrooms could transform this hotel, but its great for a couple of nights but probably no longer.
