The compound was remote enough; far away from the crowds. The elephants eat 200 pounds of greens every day. That’s is a huge salad bill! The facility had drinks and bathrooms and was organized well for the haul through the jungle. There might have been a dozen animals all set to go with the two person basket mounted on their backs. Some of the mahouts were quite young so the industry will be strong in the future.

This trip came as a part of our trip to the river Kwai tour..my husband and I had pre decided not to take the elephant ride but just walk along with the elephants..on reaching there we were really put off by the poor conditions the animals had to endure..most of them are so under fed,,they looked old and weak and the people taking care of them also looked in poor state..

Horrible experience, The riders mistreat the elephants, they pinch them with sharp objects for them to obey, they are not happy, they are chained up and are so anxious, they keep them in such small places or tied up with a chain which with that long they can barely move. IF you love elephants DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE

We visited mid morning and there were no queues
The camp is very clean and the elephants are well kept
The price for a 30 minute ride is about 12 gbp and once your about half way round your asked by the mahoot to buy some souvenir jewellry to help with "food" costs these are expensive so expect to spend another 10gbp on some cheap "tat"
You can also feed the elephants at the end for a few extra pounds that is good fun
Overall its worth the money and you can spend more to go bathing with them which sadly we didnt have time to do.
When you consider that each elephant consumes 200kg per day the costs to run this must be high so the cost is relevant and the animals seemed well kept and happy

I didnt think the treatment was bad. they pretty much went wherever they pleased and were well fed. the ppl here seemed to really love them. They take you for an hour long ride and let you get up front. the guides will construct little hats for the ladies out of bannana leafs and flowers. Make sure you tip at least 100 baht per person.
