This is an truly amazing place situated between Arusha and the Kilimanjaro airport. Great hospitality, history, service and even animal life surrounds this great estate away from the busy streets of Arusha. Based on other reviews, I would have thought this would be a 5 star no-brainer, but there are a couple of things to be aware of. This was...

Beautiful property and wished we could have stayed here longer (only stayed 1night)! Rooms were very spacious, big bed and living room, warm water, and quiet location. Restaurants served great meals and staff were very friendly! There's a nice lake, walking trails, horses, and pool. Internet connection was fine. Highly recommended and would definitely stay here again!

This lodge is very pretty situated on the grounds of an old German fortified farm. The rooms are large and suite-like with separate living room, bathroom, beds, etc. Unfortunately the rooms do not have fans or aircon, so can get a little hot. The property is very laid back and comfortable with large grounds to explore and a boat to...

We arrived at the lodge hot, tired and dusty for a marvellous welcome from the owners, Tim and Katya Leach. The room was lovely, with a view Kilimanjaro, well furnished and spacious. But the best part was staying in an authentic, family run lodge. Tims father started the lodge in 1973, and the family traditions live on. They are full...

When I was a kid I used to say that all I wanted when I grew up was a house in the forest, next to a river or a lake, with lots of animals as friends. I almost cried when I arrived in Ngare Sero for the first time and stepped into my childhood dream! A natural, rich and pure...

Amazing accommodation, huge rooms, comfortable beds. Gardens are beautiful. Incredible history associated with the property. Fantastic place for a yoga retreat. Staff are friendly and welcoming.. bring walking shoes, go hiking and see the Colobus and Sykes monkeys. Or laze at the pool or on the 100yr old verandah. The kitchen accommodated my dietry requirements, this was appreciated. Worth a...

We have stayed at Ngare Sero 3 times in 2008, 2010 & 2014. We look forward to a 4th visit in Jan 2016. it is always lovely. We like to stay a few nights before safari and as a day room after safari before our late night, long flight back to the US. It is a very special place: the setting,...

First off, I'm not an eco loving freak. But I am survivalist minded. This place merges aesthetics, beauty, functionality, and service with a very minimalist footprint. It's beauty is amazing, and so is it's damn, trout pond, organic garden, and old school water pressure pump back up to the property. JB (Jubilatte?) and Vincent were great at taking care of...

This lodge is one of the most beautiful lodges I've ever seen. It's one of those places that truly allows you to feel like you are connected to nature. The lodge is cozy, historic, and ideal for any one who wants to enjoy the nature and beauty of Tanzania. You have the most amazing view of Mount Kilimanjaro and feel...

A magnificent old country lodge that caters perfectly to a night in Arusha before or after activities further afield. The rooms are spacious and very well equipped, the public areas in and around the main house are fantastic - and gardens are spectacular. The staff are helpful and friendly. If you're into birds, you'll find it ideal. If you're not,...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set in lush gardens amid forest and crystal clear waters on the slopes of Mount Meru, Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge is a wonderful place to relax and simmer in the immense beauty of East Africa. The Lodge has been adapted from an early colonial farmhouse built in the early 20th century and it is one of the oldest family lodges in Arusha. It offers only 10 garden rooms, 2 main house suites and pool cottage with 2 bedrooms, and provides personal service for its residents since 1974. Here you can spend the days amid nature, watching the changing colors of the Kilimanjaro glaciers while sipping drinks on the verandah or hiking in the forest inhabited by colobus and Sykes monkeys as well as hundreds of small animal and bird species. The Lodge is located only 30 minutes away from Kilimanjaro International Airport and Arusha town center and it is a perfect base while on safari in the northern circuit Tanzania. ... more   less
