Walking distance from the station (10 min). I discovered that hualien's streets are quite easy to recognise so you will find your way quickly to this place. Tim welcomed me. Since I was in a hurry to see taroko gorge and buses do not go regularly, Tim decided to bring me to the station. I already asked him information about...

Walking distance from the train station (5-10 minutes i'd say), this nice and cozy Homestay was the most comfy stay in our 12 day incursion in Taiwan. The couple who run it was very friendly and the room we got was clean, comfy and convenient. One of the days we even got a sweet local delicacy as a present from...

After a business trip I went to see more of Taiwan. Since I had only 6 days for myself I went to some of the highlights. One of those highlights was the Taroko-gorge. I found out that the easiest way was to take the Tarogo hop-on hop-off bus in Hualien. Hualien itself is not so special (sorry) however the hotel...

There are several good reviews on Trip Advisors website. I chose to stay here after looking the reviews. Similar to my preview review on another hotel in Hualien. I agree with some of the review but I am not satisfied. I stayed for 2 nights with my family, so we booked a double room adding one bed to the room....

This is a really good homestay. From the moment we stepped in, the owner, Claire, had been the most helpful. There were a lot of times where she really went out of her way to help us arrange our itinerary, getting transport etc. Her heart was so big, it made hualien even bigger than it already is. The room is...

Stayed at Mistro and would definitely recommend it - Claire was a great host, went out of her way to help out guests and help them get oriented to the town. The place is clean and well-maintained, with tea available anytime downstairs. The main floor (common space) has wifi with a good signal. The location is about a 5-10 minute...

Was deciding between Mistro Homestay and another minsu, but settled for 2 nights stay at Mistro due to availability. Certainly glad that this was the case. Minsu owner, Claire, responded very promptly to my email queries and she could use English to reply my emails. She arranged for a driver to bring us around, upon our request, and help us...

My group of 7 chose to stay at Mistro Homestay, due mainly to the positive feedback from this forum, as well as the prompt reply that made our reservation a breeze. We were not disappointed. The rooms were big and unbelievably clean. From the communal areas, to our own rooms, the whole place is so well maintained that we wished...

Mistro was the first homestay that popped up when my friend and I googled for a homestay in Hualien. We were impressed by the photos of the rooms and the reviews. Glad to say we were not disappointed at all. We decided to reward ourselves and booked the room for 4 even though there were only 2 of us. The...

I stayed at Mistro only 2 nights ago for one night. Claire was good via email in correspondence as their website is only in Chinese. She picked me up from Hualien train station which was great. There was no problem finding each other as I was the only Westerner there. Claire's English is fluent. It seems they are two sisters...

“Try to ask for room at lower floor for elderly travellers.”

“Old folks pls ask for rooms on lower floors. The Japanese-theme room next to the kitchen has an 'outside' bathroom. Other guests might 'share' your toilet when they are downstairs. Other than that, it might be noisy as it's just next to the dining hall where guests have their meal or hang out.”

“One of the larger rooms (I think on the second floor?) has a balcony, might be worth requesting! Note there's no elevator, so if stairs are an issue there is one room on the ground floor.”
