Super helpful host, he has a tuk tuk for airport pick ups for 700, the guys at the airport try charge 1200.
He dropped us to the bus terminal for free and put us on the right bus.
Breakfast was an omelette and two minute noodles so definitely not worth the price.

I had a late night arrival and the owner sent a tuk tuk after midnight. They aren't allowed inside the airport and he waved me down to drive me to Randi's. The next morning, the owner served a traditional breakfast of hoppers. He suggested I take another expensive tuk tuk ride to a neighboring town to get a better train connection to Kandy. A second class ticket in Sri Lanka means you stand the whole 3 hours. They even sell a third class fare which means you are on the outside holding on for dear life. I had to do that for 15 minutes while the train was chugging before I could squeeze inside. It's not the San Francisco treat of hanging on their charming cable cars with the breathtaking views of the Bay.

This is a good place to start and end a Sri Lankan vacation. Negombo is a short distance from the airport. The owner is very helpful and friendly and the meals provided were very good. The rooms are very nice and have mosquito nets. It is a homestay aimed at backpackers rather than a hotel so there is just the one shared bathroom. I stayed my first 2 nights here and then returned at the end of my trip for the last 2 as well.

What a horrible experience to start my holidays in Sri Lanka!
I booked with Randi homestay at least a couple of weeks in advance for 4th February 2016 and I had a short e-mail exchange shortly after that. A certain Achini confirmed that his driver, Uppala, will come and pick me up near the Post station at the Colombo Intl Airport. He gave me his HP and his tuk tuk plate. I thought it was enough to trust that all will go well, especially that I was landing at 11pm and I am a solo lady traveler.
After I got out from the airport, as I was told, I rang Uppala and he told me he will be reaching in 10 min. Indeed, in 10 min time he popped up (no board with my name as told by Achini) and with a big smile said to follow him so he could bring me to Randi. After 20 min drive to Negombo he stopped in a dark street and showed me his hp with a msg from Randi, indicating how to meet me and pick me up. Nothing abnormal. And then he said that the boss told him to bring me to anohter guesthouse for the same price as Randi homestay was fully booked! What a shock! It was 1am and I was alone, with a person I met 20 min ago in the middle of nowhere. I refused to go anywhere else and insisted that he gets me first to Randi so that I can clarify the story. The driver started explaining that he will lose his job and he refused to give me any number. I got upset and scared so I said ok, I will go to another place but first you bring me to Randi. He drove me somewhere, showed me a house but didn't allow me to go ring the bell. I really didn't have the choice then to remain calm and try to trust him and that nothing bad will happen to me. He drove me to another guesthouse nearby, called Mazz homestay, but even after he banged several times on the door no one opened. I said I want to go to a normal hotel and not any guesthouse in a small hidden street. He said ok and there we go with the tuk tuk again. To keep driving was somehow reassuring me that nothing bad will happen. We reached yet again another guesthouse and not a hotel. Probably in Sri Lanka they call hotel anything that accommodates, no matter if it's a proper hotel or a guesthouse.
Anyhow, it was almost two hours he was driving me here and there and it was nearly 2am. I had to take my train at 6h50am to go to Galle, so I was really thinking that in the worse case I will just go to the railway station and stay there for the 3 hours left to sunrise. However, this was not realistic for a solo female traveler.
The driver started saying he will bring me to another place and that I should give him a last chance. No way... I took my hp and with the help of Agoda i found a hotel just nearby. Lodge19 which was giving the price of around 55US$. He tried to persuade me not to go there but i strongly insisted and gave him the exact directions how to get there.
Once we reached, the guard told me there was only one room available for 110US$. I couldn't even imagine the nightmare driving again with the driver sent by Randi Homestay (moreover that I could talk to other pple and felt safe) and I said I am taking it. The manager came and he asked me to pay first which I did. The driver was there all the time talking in tamil, so I couldn't understand. I was exhausted!
After the formalities, the driver asked to be paid three times the amount given by Randi Homestay, under the pretext that it was so difficult to drive me until here for all this time while his kids and wife are waiting for him at home! Must have been a joke! I totally refused but the guy started getting agressive and the manager of Lodge19 was extremely kind to pay him personnaly what he was asking for. I got in the room and reported the case to Agoda! What a shame of Randi homestay... I even have reconfirmed my booking and late arrival less then 24 hours in advance!
Next morning, the manager of Lodge19 told me that the driver, after I went to my room, asked even for more money saying that he was the one to bring me to this hotel. Unimagginable!
I wrote this morning an e-mail to Randi homestay telling him I have reported the case to Agoda and that I will write a warning review on Trip advisor. Still no reply!
Thus, dear tavellers, DON'T TRUST RANDI HOMESTAY as if all goes well for many, you might be the unlucky one who ends up at 2am in the middle of Negombo!
Safe travels to all!

We picked this place because we could walk there from the central bus stand. It was a good cheap convenient choice for our final night in Sri Lanka. It was very clean. They have a low mark up on beer and tasty cheap food. It's only 650r to get to the airport by tuk tuk (or you can get the bus for 25r a few blocks away). The owner is helpful and friendly without being intrusive. It's in an interesting area between canals - lots of local fishing people live in the suburb. A short walk to Negombo city.

The homestay is in a small backstreet not far from the bus and train station.
Our double room was big and so the shared bathroom, always clean.
Breakfast was included and served in the common room/office. Considering the price I can't really complain about it. On the plus side, Douglas is a great host, he cooked for us when we arrived and was really helpful. He booked an ayurvedic treatment for me (simply amazing) and he organized the transport. I would suggest this homestay if you are traveling on a budget and want to stay in the authentic side of the city.

We've spent in Randi's homestay two nights and we had great time there. Our was little bit hot but we had just fan, didn't pay for a/c. Breakfast is delicious! (Best hoppers in Sri Lanka) and others meals are good for good price. Owners are friendly and can help you with planing your trip, can pick y up on airport no matter what time is :)

Room was not as described, it said free toiletries and there was none, the buffet breakfast was non existant, it was a few slices of toast and some tea. The owner decided when to serve and knocked on our door to say it was ready quite early in the morning without prior warning (he could have told us the night before of it was early), we were awake anyway but he did not know that and it's just not acceptable. The bed didnt have a sheet and the mosquito net did not fit the bed. The room was very cheap so we did not expect much but the basics like a sheet on the bed and a mosquite net that fit were expected. There is no need to make false claims either - buffet breakfast, free toiletries, kettle facilities in room etc. Of which there were none. The owner was nice enough and place located near to bus and train station.

We were travelling from Ella to Negombo in train (ella to colombo and then from colombo to negomobo). I had booked a room 2 days back and the owner had confirmed that the room is booked. I even informed the owner in the morning that we are coming.
In the evening the owner came to pick us in this tuk tuk and when we reached their home, he started talking to his wife forgetting that we are in the tuk tuk. I took out our bags and asked them if there is an issue since we wanted to rest after our long journey.
To my SHOCK and SURPRISE, I found out that there is no room available !
What a fantastic way to end our journey in Lanka !
Then, the owner took us to another place to stay (New Negombo Residencies 2015). The place looked ok. We were given a room on the ground floor. After having our dinner which we brought from outside, we noticed there were mosquitoes in the room so I asked for mosquito spray. After I did the spray in the room, to my horror all the cockroaches in the room came out. We sat out of the room and then went to upstairs room (2nd floor) which was the same.
It was the most horrible night in my entire life and we could not sleep the entire night and left around 5 hours early for the airport.
Also, in the night I was shocked to see the Randi Homestay owner bringing another guy to stay here since their place was full. I had already informed Randi owner about the place. Anyways, I told this british guy about the place and he left the place without even coming inside.
Totally unprofessional people !

I booked this place with my friends for a photography project via booking.Com. Despite I confirmed twice he gave the room to other party because they paid higher.
Owner is very cunning greedy man.
He then transferred us to another room (runs with different name) which was far worse filled with mosquitos as well as less bedding than we requested for same price. We also had to check in like 8pm because the room wasn't cleaned. There people has to sleep in one double bed.
He even told if you wish you can put mar and sleep in reception floor.
Avoid this place as plague.
He also mentioned that local people would confirm and would not come. And he used this as an excuse. So if you are desi person he think it's difficult to milk money out of you and you are less cared.
He is more about milking money from developed country tourists.
This hotel was ran by greedy, non genuine, cunning guy. This is the worst booking experience I ever had.
I booked this looking at reviews but I was greatly disappointed.
