This place is really lovely. Its like staying at a Balinese villa. Very old property, with ponds around the outdoor dining area, and on beautiful gardens which are quite large. The rooms are ok, quite simple. Don't expect 5 star. Its more rustic in character. Floors a bit dirty, lots of mosquitoes in the bathrooms. Nothing fancy in the decor....

Apa Villa Illuketia is a hidden paradise. Beautiful old colonial house with wide sweeping verandahs, lovely rooms, ponds with koi fish and acres of stunning gardens filled with an array of birds and wildlife. Nothing better than lying by the pool or on the verandah with a cold beer and watch the garden come alive after the rain with monkeys...

We picked Apa Villa Illuketia because it really stood out, based on the reviews other users have posted here. We were looking for something unique. We found it! We arranged a driver (Sunil) and a van pickup with the villa, and we're glad we did - we had to depart Colombo during the evening rush hour (not recommended!), so we...

My second visit to this delightful villa. Pond house is secluded and peaceful, and being close to the pond with its monkeys, monitor lizard, frogs and birds is a wildlife lovers haven. The service here is warm, friendly and professional. Food excellent, especially the seared tuna and the fish curry. I will return!

What an experience! One of the most beautiful places I've ever been. Waking up in a great room (with private outdoor bathroom) and opening our door to the sight and sounds of Apa Villa Illuketia estate was something that would never grow old. The food was unbelievable - personal favorites included the breakfast hopper, locally grown rice, curries sets and...

I stayed here with some friends recently during monsoon season and was completely blown away by the sheer beauty of the place. Lush green gardens, filled with exotic wildlife (be sure to enjoy some tea around 5pm and watch the monkeys do their daily gymnastics across the trees) and impeccable service. The place is also richly steeped in history and...

Came away for a long weekend with a group of friends, and far from being able to find anything to fault with the stay, I will actually struggle to do justice to our experience with a simple written review. The guestrooms both in the main house and at the pool house are sublime - spacious, comfortable, lovely bathrooms, and a...

My wife and I stayed here by accident because its sister hotel was overbooked, though through no fault of the owner. What a fabulous retreat it turned out to be. It's about a 15 minute tuktuk/taxi ride out of Galle train station. We were greeted by the wonderful Sumith, who was a perfect assistant during our stay. The property is...

A beautiful estate perfect for getting away from it all. All the food was amazing but sure to try the delicious Sri Lankan curry set meal and the fresh tuna shashimi. Rooms in the main estate and the lake area are both beautiful.

Apa Villa estate hotel was not just a hotel; it was an amazing experience in-and-of itself. The 200y.o. refurbished tea plantation is positioned central to the 10 acres of lush, virgin rainforest. With no "check-in" counter and only 1 host, and 1 cook an no other visitors during our short stay, we felt that the whole experience was very personalized...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A villa hideaway with five suites set in 12 acres of garden and ponds. A luxury that our guests can discern on arrival. Only 15 minutes from Galle town, going to Illuketia is a return to nature and plantation lifestyle. The splendid mansion with original wooden temple doors, carved window frames and Oriental-style furniture is drawn out of a traveller's journal. A swimming pool in the far end of a lush garden allows a dip while watching birds and monkeys at close range. Three differently styled bedrooms are placed around a courtyard fish pond in the main house and two other suites are located in a separate Pond House. Each room varies in size and outlook, with its own walk-in wardrobe, sitting area indoor or outdoor. The Hibiscus Suite is considered the master room with a long private balcony lined with cushions and facing tall jack trees and rice fields. There is a separate walk-in wardrobe and en-suite bathroom. The Lotus Suite is aligned long and spacious with a walk-in wardrobe and en-suite bathroom. Windows look out to a water channel and flowering trees. The Citronella Suite is cozy and comes with a dining table and chairs in a private open-air verandah. It has its own wardrobe and en-suite bathrooms. All rooms are air-conditioned with additional ceiling fans and power points. The villa serves organic rice from its own rice fields, fruit, herbs and vegetables from the garden. Apa Villa's Sri Lankan Curry Rijstafel Dinner is all-time favourite among guests.. Apart from this, there is All Day menu of snacks, light meals and tea service. Evening meals are from an A La Carte with our stewards serving in the traditional sarong and tunic outfits. Booking for long-term of Pond House and whole villa welcomed. Illuketia and its grounds is ideal for weddings, anniversaries and birthday celebrations or groups with special interests like bird-watching, workshops, mahjong, painting and photography. ... more   less
