4 stars just This is a huge hotel in an area of many other large resort style hotels. The room safe was not secured in room 727 so anybody could pick it up and walk out with it from the room. We therefore did not use it. I know that South Korea is a very safe country BUT why supply a room safe in a supposed 4 star hotel tourist focused hotel AND then not secure it? The Exodus tour group check-in was slow but it was a Saturday late afternoon and the hotel was very busy. The room was clean with full sized towels and a largish bathmat supplied. Neither unfortunately are a given in Korea. Room heating was a typical constant 25 C even with the system turned off. This unfortunately is the norm for Korea come 01 October onwards. The window can be partly opened. The continental quilt is way too hot and we stripped out just the covers to use as a top sheet. The bottom sheets are barely bigger than the mattress base. Why again in a supposed 4 star hotel? Only two free drinking water bottles were supplied even for the two night Exodus tour stay. Again not helpful to western travellers. No sugar or dairy whitener is supplied in the room. This is a too common frustration in even other supposed 4 star Korean hotels. There is a non freezer equipped, small room fridge. I have medicines that need to be kept at 2 - 4 C so freezing a gel pack for later day travel is important to me. There is no ice machine in the hotel but the front desk were able to take my gel pack to put in an office freezer overnight for me for my post hotel travel day. My Exodus tour guide helped facilitate this. Fast easy to access, free in room wi-fi. The bed was softer than many here in Korea. The 2 pillows / bed were firmer but appeared to each be in near air tight plastic bags = unwanted noise and sweaty. There is a functional shower / bathroom. A too large and too heavy footstool / seat is in the room. It also has very sharp edges. Why such an impractical furniture item? The one suitcase raised stand / bench is too small to fit a large suitcase in. Why again? Who designs these supposed 4 star hotel rooms? We could not turn off the ceiling down light in the room hallway so I had to cover it with black tape (that I carry). We also could not turn off the two lamps on the desk near the TV. So I took the bulbs out of these to sleep. There is a master power control switch BUT using it also turned off the wall power sockets near the beds; and we travel with 2 CPAP machines. Again not the world’s best room design. The breakfast buffet was pleasing with the pre-cooked hot food actually mostly kept hygienically warm. This is very rare in Korea. We ate in one evening at the small ground floor restaurant with pleasing and good value meals; but too many little annoyances here overall to rate the hotel higher than just 4 stars.…
Everything at the Commodore was OK but nothing was great. Front desk were polite but not as welcoming as other places we went in Korea. Room was reasonably spacious with good amenities. Beds OK but a bit springy. The main issue is that the walls are like tissue paper. We could hear every word from the next room and they had a crying baby, had the TV on quite loudly and seemed to enjoy shouting. We didn’t eat breakfast in the hotel as the buffet is quite expensive and not that interesting. The Commodore is quite a way from the main tourist sites in Gyeongju and public transport is irregular so you’ll be reliant on taxis. We were with our daughter who lives in Korea and so could order Kakao taxis (like Uber) but getting about could be challenging without this.
Nice hotel. We only stayed the one night but the room was adequate although a bit dated. The shower wasn’t draining fully and there was black mould around the bottom seals, but besides this the room was lovely. The breakfast buffet was ok, lots of variety. I have a nut allergy and spoke to the staff who I don’t think fully understood as they said I couldn’t have the eggs or some veggie rice, among other surprising dishes, but didn’t say anything about a peanut sauce dish. Also, as a vegan there was very little I could eat here. There was a nice selection of vegetables and breads. The communal facilities such as the garden and pool looked good, although we didn’t experience these.
This is a resort hotel close to some interesting heritage sites. Our room was fairly small but clean, quiet and comfortable. The breakfast selection was basic but no-one could produce omelettes. As with many places that try to keep food hot in bains-maries but leave lids off or open, all the food was cold.
Four of us stayed in two rooms. This seems to be a favourite hotel for organized tours. Pros: The rooms are large, the Asakawa dining restaurant and breakfast buffet. Cons: Our room was unbearably hot 32C, no matter if we changed the thermostat or opened the window, to 0C, like Reception told us to. The decor is dated and good restaurants are limited, when location is 7 km from city. Limited English is spoken at Reception.
We stayed here and enjoyed it a lot. The rooms are fine and clean and the hotel is peaceful situated along the lake shore It is a classic high style hotel, we enjoyed it. Also near amusement parks and lake shore walking
Large hotel which seems to cater for large groups. Located by the lakeside in the Holiday hotel area outside the centre. Rooms were fine and bathroom looks like recently updated. Breakfast buffet not very special. Restaurants very good. Unfortunately due to bad weather ( typhoon passing!) did not see much of the lake. Very busy with groups at the weekend.
I stayed at the Commodore Hotel from May 7th to May 9th 2019on a trip to South Korea with a French group of nineteen people from Arts et Vie; being single I paid quite a large supplement to have a single room ,which I don't regret at all; my room was very large, very clean with all the necessary amenities;the bathroom was perfect ;the staff at the reception was very nice and helpful with sending photos on my smartphone to my family in France; i could change French euros to korean wons at a very good rate; yhe breakfast was delicious with a lot of choice:I really enjoyed the different kind of salads with the kiwi sauce! and the seawweed! Ienyoyed the cosy ,a little outdated atmosphere of the lobby and listening to the Philippine guitarist and singer while sipping a glass of chile wine at the cafe in thelobby .The surroundings of the hotel are great :it's so relaxing walking on the illuminated paths around the lake at sunsetlistening to music among Korean families enjoying the evening out; My only regret is that the pool was closed ,but I swam in Busan main beach 2 days later! Thank you for such a nice stay at the Commodore Hotel and tell the receptionist that the postcards I left at the reception have all arrived to their destination in France :Many Thanks for taking them to the post office; i will definitely come back to the Commodore hotel in Gyeongju on my next trip to Korea…
Hotel is a little tired. The furniture is old and outdated. It is very clean and the amenities are good and the room is large. I could not adjust the air conditioning and I found the room very hot. The window only opens a tiny little bit. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant and it was very good and reasonably priced. The restaurant was understaffed but the staff ran the whole time we were there. It is very close to the lake and we were here in cherry blossom season so it was spectacular.
Just stayed here for two nights and it is clearly focused on local tourism, large and familiar groups. Although it is well located and pleasant Bomun lake view, it is clearly an outdated and old hotel that needs an urgent renovation. The room was not clean and furniture was scratched and broken (illustrative attached pics). As expected, the breakfast was mainly aimed mainly to asian tourism, not western. Clearly this hotel is not even a 3 star (western standards) and sorry to say, but not recommended at all.
