When you first arrive, you cannot tell how large this property is, but once you walk towards the back it has a super peaceful vibe. The pool is beautiful, the rooms are spacious, and the bathrooms are amazing. The coolest thing about this hotel is the privacy is it is able to provide for each room with a little garden area outside of the bedroom. It's great that you can keep the windows open to your garden and have lots of privacy. They refill your waters and fruits daily, which is really cool. The breakfast was one of our favorites as far as hotels go, with these delicious papaya and pineapple jams.

The staff is super friendly. The only thing we encountered was that our AC was a little loud the first couple of nights and leaking. We told the staff and they actually fixed it that same day, so they were super fast to get it working perfectly again. Do book a walk in the ridge - which is one of the free activities. Skip the birds... not that great. Unless you're into birds I guess. You have to pay for the viewing spot - I forget how much but it wasn't worth it.

This place is very central. Has some great restaurants and bars nearby definitely recommend "Honey and Smoke: across the road but you will need to book.
Small details is that this place really looks after you with daily fruit platters and nuts. Breakfast was enough. As I said very central to everything. Our Villa room was beautiful and tranquil. We loved this place and highly recommend it.

Staff were friendly, amazing and accommodating, they also remembered our conversations and circumstances. Both bungalows were perfect with daily servicing and evening turn down with added treats. Breakfast was done well. Pool well maintained and location was perfect. Lovely welcome drink and cold towel on arrival.

My husband and I stayed at 5 hotels during our honeymoon and this was definitely the nicest. We got one of the rooms with a private pool and it was AMAZING. The room was huge, there was fresh fruit provided, two lounge chairs by the pool, and a day bed outside by the fountain. And of course the pool itself was super nice.
The hotel is pretty centrally located, the staff were helpful, and breakfast was tasty. Highly recommend!

Our first trip back to Bali after Covid. We finished our holiday with 3 nights at Barong Resort. From entering the resort we were warmly welcomed by the happy, friendly & attentive staff. We were very grateful for the high level of service throughout our stay. The a la carte breakfast had lots of selections. The three of us settled comfortably into our pool villa. Spacious rooms & outdoor lounging areas. We loved the thoughtful surprises left every day. Perfect location right in the centre, easy walking to many attractions. Thank you everyone at Barong Resort for an enjoyable stay.

Very decent rooms, very nice place to feel relaxed. Bit noice in the front room at night due to neighbour playing loud music but still ok.

Breakfast is all good and good services. Room service is good and good stay for family. Beds were very comfy. Accommodated 2 adults and 1 kid of 12 years old. Provided us with extra full size bed. Mosquito net was good and French window was also relaxing. Close to Monkey forest, Ubud market and restaurants and Ubud palace. All close enough of 5-10 minutes walk only.

I have been to Bali many many times but this place is by far the worse I have ever seen and for over $200 AUD what a complete joke... This place should not be called a resort in any way....disgusting is what i call it....mould ridden, decrepit yuk yuk yuk !!! I wouldn't stay here again if it were free... we booked for 5 nights and checked out at 7 am the next morning...
Coughed all night because of the mould spores spewing around the room.
Only booked here because of the location and reviews but now i wonder where those reviewers have stayed before if they think this place is good in any way.

Over $200 AUD a night!!!! Should be more like $50 a night...

Take a look at the pics we took of our room.... horrendous!

We booked a deluxe villa with private pool in the Barong Resort and Spa in Ubud. When we compared the brochure in the room with the actual state of the place the situation was quite different. This was our second visit to the Barong in Ubud and for us it brought back precious memories!
Still the same loose knob of the showerhead that randomly sprayed the whole bathroom, the same toilet that kept on running day and night, our friendly encounters with the creepy crawlers in the untidy pool area. The broken tiles in and around the pool and the lamp in the pool area that we had to screw and unscrew when it became dark, the outside door to the villa that could hardly be opened and the outside walls of the villa that have not seen a fresh lick of paint for years.
Breakfast was plentiful, but the quality was less than impressive to say the least.
At no time did we feel from the management that we were valued guests, but merely walking wallets that had to be emptied as soon as possible. We left two days early (of course we paid for the full 4 days), but the management did not even bother to ask us whether we had enjoyed our stay.
On the plus side, the young staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is ideal in the centre of Ubud and it was quiet at night.
Our main complaint is the neglected and run-down condition of the room, that in its present state is grossly over-priced. So dear management, time for choices: renovate your rooms and bring them back up to standard or milk it out further and become a Bali Fawlty Towers!
What a crying shame that would be!

I think the main issue was that the price wasn't comparable to the stay, particularly what you become accustomed to in places like Bali. That, and I had a bit of an issue with the taxi booking system which almost marred the whole stay.

But I'll start with what I liked:

Having our own tucked away villa with our own secret garden was a wonderful experience and although the food at breakfast wasn't going to win any awards, it was substantial and the experience of being able to enjoy it in said secret garden was a nice touch.

The bed was large, comfortable and in general my sleep went undisturbed which was great considering the resort's central location.

The foyer and the gardens are an impressive sight. The pool was cool and welcoming and I partook in a massage and treatment at a the spa which I thoroughly enjoyed.

All of this didn't match the almost $300 per night price tag.

On to my major complaint. I booked a taxi to take me to a wedding in Kuta. I was told by the receptionist it would take 10 minutes as the traffic was bad, I was a little disillusioned having walked the streets of Ubud being harassed every ten seconds by offers of a taxi, but nonetheless I wore it. Twenty minutes had passed and still no taxi. Eventually after 30 minutes the taxi came and I was late for the wedding. It was obvious there were more taxi options but the receptionist obviously wanted to ensure the hotel's driver/ his mate was utilised which normally wouldn't bother me but by not using any taxi driver meant I was late for someone's wedding. Not cool.

Anyhow, I got over it and learned from my mistake and, having encountered DPS airport just two weeks earlier, ensured a taxi was booked for 7pm so as to not end up late for my flight.

7pm came and went and no taxi. Enquired at the front desk and it was apparent the booking had not been made and a taxi was called and we wee told it would take 20 minutes. What? At this point I didn't retain my cool and I admit could have been considered borderline rude to the receptionist and for that I apologise but having missed the start of my brother-in-law's wedding just two day's before I wasn't acting rationally.

So armed with our baggage I stormed out of the hotel and found a taxi in less than 10 seconds. There was one at the end of the drive way adjoining the hotel because it's Bali and the percentage of taxi drivers runs at about 50% of the population so I couldn't understand why we would have to utilise the one driver contracted to the hotel, particularly if it meant missing flights and/or weddings.

Sorry for acting like a knob in the foyer but come on!
