Kamandalu Ubud is a 5-star boutique resort and spa located conveniently in a serene area of Ubud, Bali, a place long famed for its rice terraces and Balinese traditional arts. The resort's compound of 58 luxurious villas is a resemblance of an enchanting Balinese village. Individually designed with thatched roof, each villa features a spacious bedroom complete with modern amenities and outdoor showers. For the ultimate in privacy, some villas have their own private swimming pools. The resort is beautifully nestled between the green rice paddies and the tropical valley, just a 10 minute drive from the center of Ubud with complimentary scheduled shuttle service to center of Ubud. The resort is an hour comfortable drive from Ngurah Rai international airport on well paved roads. Airport pick-ups and limousines services can be arranged by the resort.

Detailed Reviews
The hotel is very modern and spacious. The ground is very well managed. We booked into a pool villa which comes with the access to the village club. I highly recommend the village club privilege. The service feels more personal and you simply pick up a snack or drink on the way out or back to the villa.
The villa is huge and with all the modern facilities that you would expect.
As part of our package, we had a candle lit dinner, a picnic, one hour massage and a cycling/trekking tour. I do find the candle lit dinner a bit cheesy but I did enjoy it and it was very romantic. The picnic in the rice fields are also quite cool. For the cycling, do bring some spare change as they take you to some local rice paddy fields that require a donation. I did the big swing there which I thought I wouldn't do as it is such a gimmick. But I actually really enjoyed it as it reminded me of the thrill of the swing when I was young. The bike ride is very gentle and mostly downhill.
The massage was good but you can hear the phone ringing in the massage room.
We booked a white water rafting through the hotel. The booking was all very easy. My advice is the hotel should let us know that lunch was included, bring some money for drinks and photo and also the difficulty of the rive is low. For us, it was more for us to watch the wildlife rather than doing white water rafting.
The dining options are not much in the hotel especially for vegetarian but it is very cheap. I would give the local wine a miss.
They are currently doing a lot of building works on the pool villa so it is a shame to hear all the banging noise throughout the day.
Another advice I have is that make sure you tell them when you are going out or having dinner. A few times our rooms not been serviced and we head to wait at the village club.
The shuttle service is very good.
There are lots of steps round the grounds of this hotel, so do let them know if you prefer one closer to the lobby. We actually likes ours as it is furtherest away from the lobby.

This is probably the nicest hotel I've ever stayed at, with the possible exception of a hotel within Kruger National Park in South Africa. All rooms are private villas. Our villa included an outdoor shower and pool, as well as an outdoor sitting area. Our room package included a candlelit dinner and an amazing picnic lunch, as well as a complimentary massage for myself and my wife. Considering the complimentary items and the quality of the room, I would expect to pay at least double the rate we paid. Based on that, the value was exceptional.

My wife and I recently stayed at Kamandalu for our honeymoon. We spent 7 days in Ubud and absolutely loved the resort and the service provided by every staff member. We booked a garden pool villa, and though the pool water was a bit cool for the morning, it did feel great after a day spent outside in Ubud. I would recommend purchasing the flower bath for those who want to splurge on their honeymoon. This was set up by the staff and they even exchanged wine for coconut drinks upon request. The breakfast served at the resort was excellent and the staff made specialty coffee drinks for us as well. Afternoon tea was also excellent and the floating breakfast was an experience. We did enjoy massages on site and the staff was so accommodating to anything we wanted to do when planned last minute. I highly recommend the bike tour with Luis (Wayan) which was one of our top favorites going through the rice terraces. He was so accommodating and took great photos. The staff at the Village Club made our experience exceptional, made us feel welcome and at home. They even drew us a frame sketch to take home with us at the end of our trip. We did stay in Kuta as well and saw a difference in the service between both stays.

Visited Kamandalu with my family of 5. We stayed in one valley villa with pool and in one garden villa. We were Very satisfied with our 6 nights long stay. The hotel (which is more a huge area with a lot of small houses except for the main building /reception) is build in a beatiful way with a lot of Green, water, flowers and sculptures. Especially lovely in the evening with all the lights every where, or during the day looking into the Green valley and see the monkey jumping in the threes.
The villas are well equiped and clean. Nice style. We loved the outdoor shower.
Very good breakfast with a lot of options. The food at the pool restaurant was good, but expensive. I guess that something that comes with staying in this kind of hotel.
One thing that really make this place special is everybody working at Kamandalu. The staff was Very helpful and nice. It never felt stiff - just Very kind persons working here. I think out of all staff that We met during our quite long stay only One was on the more rude side which unfortunately was One of the last ones We met when checking out. Luckely she was not representative.
We could easily have given Kamandalu the highest rating because it is truely a lovely hotel. But We can’t since there are some important things that We suggest the hotell should improve:
The lack of a gym. It was so surprising to find out that a hotel of this rating still in 2020 doesn’t have a gym, so that We hadn’t even checked this beforehand. If We knew We might not have choosen this hotel.
The madrasses are terrible and not what you would expect in a hotel like this. They need to be updated together with the terrible cushions. You expect to be sleeping comfortable.
The menu at the pool bar could be a bit more updated to 2020 trends when it comes to healthy options.
The design in the restaurants could also soon be updated to modern trends of 2020. We truely believe that Kamandalu could benefit from somebody following hotel trends a bit more in order to keep this juvel of a hotell updated and modern. The concept could have been so strong combining all the positive things about this place with a mindset of modern trends and healthy life style. The benefits still outweights this, but will not in the longer run considering other hotel options in Ubud.

We loved the time we spent at Kamandalu in Ubud. It's such a relaxing and peaceful place to stay. The staff made our stay very comfortable and unforgettable. We loved our villa with a private pool and the bed and bathroom were both very big and comfortable. The food at Kamandalu is very delicious and we enjoyed their Spa treatments with a Balinese Massage a lot. They offer shuttle service to Ubud town and complimentary Yoga every morning in the most beautiful Yoga hall, overlooking the jungle. Besides we had a very beautiful and romanitc candle light dinner which they set up with so much love and a picnic Lunch within their own ricefields which was beautiful too. We highly recommend Kamandalu for your stay in Ubud.

This hotel is overwhelming. We have had a wonderful time in this very well kept resort with it’s amazing nature which was extraordinary groomed by the gardener’s. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. A big thank you to Sri and her team at the spa. They made our stay even more comfortable. If we come back to Ubud we will only stay at the Kamandalu. I have worked in hotels for many years and I must say that this was the best hotel I have stayed in so far. Thank you once again Kamandalu team - we hope to see you again soon!

I have stayed at the Kamandalu Resort and Spa five times and would not consider staying anywhere else in Bali. The property is in a peaceful setting on the terraces of a river gorge. You can stay in a chalet with access to a luxurious pool with in-pool bar or a private walled villa with your own infinity pool. All rooms are air conditioned. The on-site restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner or you can take the free shuttle for a six minute ride into Ubud for dining or other activities. The hotel staff are uniformly pleasant and helpful. The Kamandalu has my highest possible recommendation.

Simply stunning setting, from the entrance/reception to the gardens & river running though as well as the pool villa's over looking the valley.
We chose a pool villa which also included the Valley Club, so we checked in/out there, had some afternoon tea when we arrived & an evening cocktail over looking the river on a couple of nights. NB for people who have regularly stayed in hotels with longe access, it literally is 1x evening cocktail per person, not free flow like many lounges offer.
Looking at the hotel layout, I think we were lucky with our villa as it had one of the largest infinity pools, a big day ned & a fabulous outdoor bath & shower (as well as in door shower).
We had the floating breakfast, which was outstanding, quality of the food, huge selection & the staff who came to set it all up were delightful.
We got the shuttle bus into town a couple of times which was really easy & only about 10 minutes away.
We also had the couples massage with forest swing which was a lovely setting - although be warned to spray as I got a lot of bites on the swing!. We thought both this & the breakfast were very reasonably priced for a luxury hotel - we didn't do any of the dinners but they did seem comparatively a lot more.
Staff throughout the whole resort were delightful, especially reception, the concierge & the village club.

Had the best time here. Beautifully done rooms. Had a package of 2-3 different things with the room, which they added and changed at our request, because we were vegetarians, and also even though we had taken lunches and treks, they changed it to our requests on what's app! excellent service! the best meal I've had on day 1 dinner that too in a forest setting. Its not too far from ubud Centre, plus they have shuttles up and down. would definitely go back here

We stayed for 3 nights in one of the villas which had its own pool and view of “the jungle”.
Staff couldn’t have been more helpful, organised our transport, had daily cocktails, a private large room with ensuite. A fantastic large private pool! Everything was quiet and serene.
We had our first meal in the restaurant, nice food but hot and humid so second night had it delivered to our room. Order the special dinner the last night (a big birthday) which is located down candle lit steps, a table just for two and 6 course dinner. A lovely end to our stay.
Took a trip into town centre and grabbed some shopping at the market.
The hotel also organised a private tour of local places to see including rice terraces, coffee tasting, bartik store, gold and silver stores, art galleries and more. All at our own pace and while seeing the people and countryside,
A great way to see the hustle bustle of ubud while having a tranquil safe haven and swim to come back to each day to cool down!
